  1. I just emailed him asking for the VIN. We'll see if I get it.
  2. peddler, has this been installed in a 240Z? Do you have any of the other parts required to put it in a 240Z?
  3. Currently I have the F54 block (flat-top pistons) with a P79 head on it (was pulled from a running '82 280Z). So either way I would have to buy the new head, which ever turns out to be the best. What's the difference between the N42 and the P90? They both are from the 280 so the sizes should be the same (right?) and they both have square exaust ports. I have read that the P90 is supposed to flow better yet the N42 does show to give higher compression with no mods. Now the N42 has bronze valve seats which I have read make this head expensive to rebuild and as I recall require you to run a lead additive in your fuel. I have also read that you should use the N42 and N47 only with dished pistons and the E31, early E88, P79, P90, and P90a with flat-top pistons. What about this information? Then there is the E88 head which shows to have the same compression as the N42 on an F54 block. So why not this one? I'm really quite new to all this and am trying to learn as much as I can but there is just SO much to know! So please forgive my lack of knowledge and numerous questions.
  4. Ok, I have another thread going on compression ratios for the P90 here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7109 I have read that more than about 10:1 is not drivable on the street and I want to keep mine streetable. So...what is my best bet? I've read all the information on this and other sites and taking everything into consideration it seems as though the P90 head is my best bet (I will be using an F54 block) but the compression ratio is around 8.5:1. Is this good enough or should I try for something in the 9's? If I should try for a higher ratio then how? Car use: I plan on autox and occasionally driving to work just to enjoy it and keep things moving properly...NOT my daily driver, just a fun car that would be used for autox. Cost: CHEAP! I have to keep my expenses down and have remedial mechanical skills so any shaving etc would require to part going to a machine shop (I could probably remove and reinstall it but maybe not much more).
  5. beandip, how did you get a 9.5 compression ratio out of a P79 on an F54 with flat top pistons? I have read that the this should be much lower, in the 8's somewhere. This is a stock configuration, I have one sitting in my garage now. The only difference is that you've converted to carbs and the one I just got last week has FI (again, this engine came stock with FI which I will be removing to go carbs).
  6. I just went to my Costco and couldn't find them. I looked where the tools are, around the auto stuff, outdoor items, and sporting goods and nothing. I was hoping that they'd have them here too so I could save a few bucks. Bummer!!!
  7. Ok, now I'm curious!! Can someone please email me this pic?

It's close to me and sounds like a nice car...I bet you wouldn't let it go for anything near $2000 would you? *shrug* Had to ask. :classic:
  9. beandip, your link does not work. I copy and pasted it into a browser alone, with www in front and with http:// in front and none of the three worked.
  10. P79 head is from '81-'83 280Z non-turbo. Currently I have a complete '82 engine sitting in my garage (complete as it still has FI, alternator, AC compressor, power steering pump, etc attached).
  11. Personally, I don't like it at all!   http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/8/47576578.htm
  12. What's the gear ratio on the diff and how much would shipping to Texas be?
  13. WTF!!!!!!!!!!! Such a wast of a good Z....that's a shame!!!
  14. There does not seem to be tested and confirmed numbers that I was able to find. I have seen the chart at http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/heads.html but it does not have the combination I was looking for. Does anyone know factually what the compression ratio is for an F54 block with flat-top pistons and a P90 head combination is?
  15. Ok, the list of exaust port shapes is now complete. Thank you to all who contributed!! Now the question remains as to which is considered to be the best port the round or the square?
  16. Ok, I an trying to figure out what shape the exaust ports are on different heads. E31 - square E88 - square N42 - square N47 - round P79 - round P90 - square P90a - square This information came from http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/heads.html as well as people in this forum. I am want to make sure I know what I'm getting into here (my plan is to put a P90 on an F54 non-turbo block which will have flat-top pistons and carbs). EDIT: Forgot to ask which is considered to be better, round or square exaust ports? EDIT: I'm updating the list above as the answers come in.
  17. In case anyone wants colored guage faces there are some on eBay right now for $9.99 ending soon (not my auction, I just came accross them). http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2414253640&category=34206 Here's another one with the Z inlay but this one is $50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2413303371&category=33678
  18. So what does that mean? I've never heard of either company.
  19. First off I'd like to say that the support is a wonderful thing to see considering many if not all of you have never met him, I myself only met him last Sunday when I drove the 4 hours to see his car as I was considering buying it. So I can't say that I even know him either. Point being, no body knows him but we all do care about our fellow man. Now on to the update. Here is a direct quoted email from his sister that I got this morning: "Thank you for the prayers! so far, Ernie doesn't need surgery and will be moving out of the ICU soon (possibly tomorrow). He is recovering and doing well. the doctors are keeping an eye on him, and ernie is not feeling any major pain. this is the first time ernie has been in a hospital so his alittle embarrassed! ) we're still taking care of him and we thank you for your concern and prayers! they are very much needed! we will keep you informed. God BLess! andrea +JMJ ps. we think he will be fine, no broken bones or scratches, it was internal bleeding but it seems to have stopped by itself.(Thank God!) he has to stay in bed for the next couple of days."
  20. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you all that one of our members was in what sounds to be a bad accident Friday night in his '73 240Z. The member is fstr240z and his sister told me today that he is in ICU with internal bleading. She did not say any more except to include a pic of the car where the impact occured...driver's door. She asked that I keep him in my prayers and I thought that you all may want to do the same...one can never have too many people pulling for them. I have attached the pic of the car just so everyone can get an idea of just how serious his injuries could be.

Just to make sure that I get the right thing I really would need to know the size. I may end up at a hardware store to get them and they will have no clue what head bolts are.

I'm picking up an engine today and will be putting it on an engine stand at the guy's house since he has a hoist and I don't. However, I have no idea what size bolts I will need to attach it! Please help, I need to get the bolts before I get to his house. Oh! The engine is from an '82 280ZX

Tell us about the car and how much you want for it in the meantime.
  24. And the search goes on. This is a rather time consuming, frustrating, and disappointing process. I know that it will all pay off in the end when I find the right one, but man I wish it would come along soon.
  25. Ok bambi, I see this but what does it mean? What difference does this make?
