Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi Danny , wow !!! You have done tremendous work on your Z ! What a beautifully done , and you said you put R192 , MK 63 , and even 10 x1000 Tach, I noticed Nissan badge too , I can see how hard that you have been collecting them . And you cleared the issue of the exhaust manifold, it must be a hand made , very nice . RB 20 DET is 4 valves per cylinder ,right ? So your car is 4 valves, 3 carbs , 2 camshafts , like a Z432 . The difference between RB20 and S20 is a bore x stroke, 78 x 69.7 RB20 ( L20 and VG20 too) 82 x 62.8 S20 And yours are way powerful than stock S20 ! I would like to see your car’s movie . Please keep going to show for us . Thank you for the post , it is great ! Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi blue and Gavin , thank you for the wonderful stories , you have same experience with me ! Good question about the smell of the car , I am sure my ZG , spending its whole life in Japan has a completely different smell . I am afraid to say this , my ZG has a kind of MOLD of smelling. Probably, this is a normal Japanese old car ? So , S30 car was made in Japan , but it became an American if a car was exported to the US . It must be true for every car , for every country around the world. I have heard, people visit Japan can smell Soy sauce when they arrived at the Tokyo airport. I have never feel like that , maybe because I am Japanese . On the other hand , every time My family trip to the US by US airline carriers , we become so excited when we walk through the boarding bridge in the Tokyo airport , we smell USA already! Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
This is the picture when my ZG was on sale , ( numbers are hidden by the seller , this is usual thing in Japan ) you see the Kanji character “ SHINAGAWA “ that is the car registered in Tokyo Shinagawa district . 34 is showing the car was registered a long time ago , and 3 means over 2000 cc engine. Now we have 332 etc for the car like that . And there is a white ring with a sealed cap for the license plate, this is also proving the car was registered a long time ago. If I was a resident in Shinagawa area , my ZG could have the license plate as it is . That is very sad for me and the car , but I did not have any idea to remain the plate with the car , I had to registered it in my district. Kats

Thanks blue , I must add one thing , each car has each smell . I always feel “ USA “ every time I get in the orange 240Z. And I really like the smell . I can not say well enough, what makes me feel like that ? Maybe you are not realized , but I am sure there is a certain smell in the US . Each time I opened the box bought eBay USA, , there was a smell which I like . It brings back good memories to me when I was at a flight training in Bakersfield California . Supermarket , warehous , airport , everywhere. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Hi , two cars comparison. Both are 1972 model , and survivor, . They are not restored , but have had been well taken care of from original owners. As you guess and see both , the orange is nicer than the maroon . California climate? Maybe , but this maroon is keeping very good condition as spending its life in humid Japan .I realized we can keep our car like this if we take care of our car very well even in Asian countries. I think the difference came from “ history “ of each cars. The maroon had some scratches on the left hand front fender and door , and little bit under the left hand rear bumper , near the muffler. The orange did not have such injuries. This makes maroon looks inferior of its exterior condition to the orange, the repair job at that time ( 1973 and after ) was not good . But I like its history, then It makes me feel difficult to decide remain as it is , or paint it like new with whole new parts which I have stored. Also the orange still has complete carpet and jute set , even each one has a paper stamp of quality inspection. The maroon is missing two front jute set , all the others are remained with the car . Tools , wheels, hubcaps , and speakers , seats , these hard to keep things with cars are original. I can compare one by one , the one has spent its life in the US , and the other one has spent its life in Japan . Some parts are looked identical of its condition, but some parts are not the same , it is fun to guess what made these parts looked different. And both have a lot of receipts from the begging ! Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Today I did some work on the S20, Japan is now nice but little bit chilly in the morning and evening. I adjusted carbs at an airport parking lot before my flig?ht The carbs were summer set up , I was hoping I set for autumn, but I tried not to touch a lot . I felt I must stay with Mr . Watanabe ‘s tuning . My work is not perfect , I am just an amateur . Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Again thank you everyone, Mr . Kawashima will be so happy when he see these comments . The reason why I took off the #1 FS5C71A just after a few thousand kilometers, was I wanted to have rotations between these two perfectly rebuilt 71A . And also me and Mr. Kawashima both were curious about how the big two nuts stay after a couple thousand kilometers usage. We will check it again in next few thousand kilometers. Also I want to see how the synchros are getting worned out . Gavin , I would love to ! You can visit me anytime and you have to determine what is the Z432 and what is the 240ZG , also the automatic Z with A/C and the 4speed with 3.364 Z by driving them in your hand . All of my cars are daily driver , you can test the wiper and the rear glass defroster in a heavy rain , and see the how “ parking lights “ and “ passing lights “ work at night .The aerial mast and the 8 track FM pack make you feel good . I wish I could open a cafe with Zs , for everyone who wants to see and feel the original Zs just like back in 70’s . Kats

These two FS5C71A rebuilt by Mr.Kawashima , one is in my Z432 and the one is taking a rest after driving a few thousand kilometers. I checked the big two nuts , they are rock solid ! Mr. Kawashima tightened them properly. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
FS5C71A has big two nuts for securing the fifth gear , this design is a cause of common trouble of surging the gear and the hub by the big two nuts become loose. Mr . Kawashima has been rebuilding so many Nissan transmissions , he puts a single big nut with special securing method for the fifth gear of FS5C71A If customers want it . Also he recommends using a 71B upgraded folks , double sealing for the control lever etc . He offers me FS5C71A with all the Warner synchro modification, I think it will be very nice but , I just like the original at the moment. Kats

Datsun-240z Vs Fairlady-z432
Yeah , I have never driven FS5W71B , but I can imagine. 5th is one way operating gear , I mean it does not have “ down shift “ , this makes the fift gear less likely worn out than the other gears . So Nissan remain the Porche type synchro for the fifth gear ? Kats

wiring path of fasten seat belt light on 1972 240z
Hi , I will take some pictures of the wiring of my car . But I say again , my case is not the original wiring, I wanted to have the warning system. So I added some wiring and connectors and using existing wiring and connectors . I did not cut nor welded any original wiring because I can resume originals whenever I want to . The best thing is to see someone’s original wiring. Kats
