  1. I'd check the plugs for soot (as above) to find out which cylinders are running rich. Have you refilled the car lately? Sometimes dodgy fuel will do exactly what you describe..

Looking at changing my 240 points distributor to electronic by ripping one off a 280zx. I have found one on an AUTO car with an E12-80 black box on the side, is this OK or do I need a manual car. This site : http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/engine.html seems to infer that I need a manual one. Anyone know if an auto's dizzy will do the job?
  3. I got adjustable Konis + harder springs on the rear installed for $500 (incl parts)... seems to work OK.
  4. It could always be an L series 6cyl bored and stroked to 3ltrs... I believe you can get up to about 3.2 without TOO many hassles.

I've seen guys who cover the entire back of the door trim with fibreglass and you can't tell from the front. If you wanted to be really sure you could always replace the fibreboard with new stuff I guess. To protect the surface I think nothing beats tinted windows and some sort of protectant!

Pwoar! Nice engine bay.. I turned down a V8 z without even looking at it. I think I might now regret that decision!!!
  7. I can vouch for the key-banger method as one of my mates used to do it regularly to scare the rice-boys in South Yarra. It was really funnny for first few months - until he blew red-hot baffles out of his exhaust one night. If you do it "well" enough it really is like a small explosion (coz it is...duh!!:stupid: )
  8. Alfa's right!! What the bloody hell is it doing with a clutch pedal?? Blahahahahaa!! Maybe they retro-fitted an auto to the car? ...and that 240 in sydney in the trading post looks dodgy too, either its a 260 or the front panels have been replaced at some time.. G.
  9. I tend to but Practical Classics, it's more of a greasy fingers mag then the others and has cars in it I can actually afford!

If I could find a cheap one I would!
  11. If only I'd known that when I was looking! Looks like a nice car.. tell me when you have an idea on $$ if it comes to it!
  12. Wanted : Basically all the bits to do an auto -> manual conversion in a 240z. Contact me and tell me what you have and how much you want!! If you have any red interior bits I'd be interested also... cheers G

HA! I live on a dirt road so I know about chips and dirty bodywork! Yep, the darker the colour, the more it tends to show up scratches and imperfections in the underlying bodywork. They say you only ever own one black car for this very reason... Metallics can also be very hard to match if you ever need parts of the car resprayed at any time. Whatever colour you get I'd get heaps of coats of gloss on the top. It'll look really shiny that way! What about British racing green (looks nivce with doe-hide interior), a sort of deep burgundy red also looks really good but sounds awful!

I've seen a dark metallic grey, almost a graphite colour.. looked bloody awesome. I've also seen a very light green metallic (with zg nose and flares) on a website somewhere. Made it look REALLY classy.. I'd go surfing on the net to check out colours.... If you wanna see a car in WRX blue that ain't a rex pm me and I'll show you my mates race mini. It looks awesome!!
  15. That would be the one.. there are plenty of guys in the club wrecking zeds!
  16. Since u r in Melbourne, join the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club.... someone there will be able to help you out!

I just bought 215/65 R14 tyres for my zed and the bloody things rub on the front guards when I turn right..but not when I turn left. I just had the front end re-bushed...could that have put the suspension geometry out of whack, causing one to rub and not the other? Are these tyres meant to be too big for a z? I wish these places would just CHECK that everything operates as it should BEFORE they take ur money . I can feel a fight on my hands....

So with a 3.9 what box would be best? Can you get 3.7's in Aus? Can you get LSD 3.7 / 3.9's and what cars were these two ratios available in.. I wanna grab one from a wreckers yard!!!
  21. I've been there. It's a guy who has wrecks lying around his house and he'll pull bits of for you... G
  22. I am in the interesting situation of going from auto to manual and with so many different combinations of diffs and boxes I'm confused as to what to do. Basically, I want to end up with a kick-ars road car that also travels on the Highway at reasonably low rpm. Any ideas? One guy said just to change the box from the current auto to a 280zx manual and all would be sweet. Would this make it sluggish off the line though?? Is an r200 LSD really worth the $$$'s???? Help!! I'm SO confused....:stupid:
  23. Got any info about the 16k zed?
  24. Do you have a rough idea? Say, in a range? Is the engine bay the same colour, it doesn't look stock..

Sounds like a good trick! On a completely unrelated topic, has anyone ever made a complete list of zed parts which are available on other cars? i.e. doorhandles were on 1600 etc etc??? Would be awesome for us misers!! GROFL G
