  1. That's a good idea. 8^) Just so happens that I am chasing a #112 yellow '72. Husband wants to keep it, wife wants it gone. So far he's still the boss.
  2. It looks like they pulled it out from under that shed and rinsed it off for the pictures. The battery isn't hooked up and the rear is sun damaged. The wheels look darker on one half than they do the other, from sitting. I've never seen so much rust in an engine bay. Sorry to pile on but I can't help myself. You're looking at it as an investment, I see a money pit.
  3. Are you joking? I was afraid of the su at first, the only thing I have with carbs is my lawnmower, but after rebuilding a set I'm more comfortable with them. The 240s are much quicker and more fun to drive. Nothing like the screaming sound of carburetors. When I get bored I may put some Weber 40s on one. I just so happen to have a set. 8^) When the carbs are right they're rock solid. Less is best for me. I like the heavier ride of the 280s on the interstate but not as much as my Camry. I like back roads early in the mornings. There's tons of 280s around, not too many 240s though. They've all been crashed. The efi 280 would be great for a first timer. I just need more room in my garage and the 240 is shorter, I can park my mower behind it and the door barely clears it. I'd rather drink beer and work on them than drive one.
  4. I just had the biggest "duh" moment of my life. I've got 3 Zs in my garage, two 240s and a 280. I need to keep my daily driver in the cooler garage than sitting outside roasting in the sun. When I met my Dad on Father's Day I was pouring sweat ( he was just a couple of miles away) from my Camry being so hot, long pants and a long sleeve dress shirt with a tie on. So I've decided to sale the 280 instead of the 240, DUH!!!! Doesn't that make more sense? 240 prices are going crazy now so I should keep it instead of the 280 in my opinion, agree?
  5. Good article to read from Janurary 2009, http://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hsx/2009/01/In-the-Black---1978-Datsun-280Z/1749113.html What to pay 1978 Datsun 280ZLow: $3,500Average: $6,500High: $10,000
  6. $4 at Lowes. No need for a caulking gun either.
  7. Looks like that was his first and last post? I'll try a @jellroy2
  8. Now that's attention to details. 8^) You're absolutely right on the engine bay repaint. I did not notice the brake lines were yellow. Good catch! Looks like a well done job except the things you've pointed out.
  9. $2,500 IMO Maybe a little more but there's a lot of work to do on that car.
  10. Does your Z still have the paint code sticker on the radiator support? Is it #411? And while I have you on the phone asking questions, where does all that water go at low tide?
  11. From what I've read, the dealerships added the Zap package when they got the yellow cars. If zhomes color gallery is correct then all yellow ones were special edition. I've seen one other yellow one owned by a member here, GrantF. Been some years since he's posted though.
  12. Looks better than before and I'm sure you don't leave it outside. Those Haradas that are popping up for sale are like $400, WOW.
  13. When I first heard "spanner wrench" I've thought that was it. They do move the setting so spanner makes sense to me. World Wide Sports, " spanning the globe..." then the ski jump goes to hell. Gruesome change from Looney Tunes to watching someone die every Saturday morning.
  14. It's a Goat, right? I'm watching Barrett Jackson and one just went through.
  15. What Pontiac? is that in the background? Not trying to be a pest but I want to see Tiger! Do you still have the Harlequin? I have a special fondness for Brindals. I had a Brindal Boxer when I was young. Then my Jelly Bean. 8^)
  16. He needs the build date to be sure but I think the door tag probably has late '76 stamped on it so he thinks it's a '76?¿?
  17. We have a tint shop here that can reproduce that type stuff. He does the whole car wraps for business vehicles.
  18. Yes, you found what you wanted and it's a turnkey car. You get what your "willing and able" to pay, leaping over the bullsh*t. Congratulations. 8^)
  19. Still impressive numbers. My SUs quit at 6500 or maybe it's the mechanical fuel pump, doesn't matter to me, I have a governor on the motor. 8^) I need it too!
  20. Boy oh boy was I wrong and that's rare. That tip was over 200 degrees when I checked it but the painted skirt above it was only 125. Speedo is much better thank goodness, I would've gotten a speeding ticket had I left the 19 in there. I was turning 3200 rpm at 80 mph. Now 2500 to get 80 and I was in a pack of cars on the interstate where everyone runs 80 mph.
  21. According to zhome's color guides the only yellow Zs were special addition '77s. It would be ashame if that's a real Zap Z and someone painted it teal. http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/
  22. Oh okay, I only see it when I'm warming it up in the garage. Thanks, I'm about to hit the roads this morning and see how my new speedo gear acts. That thing blows out more air than anything I've ever had, if an engine is a big air pump then mine is working fine. My air box is still off though?
  23. When my Dad caught me I said "it's my pipe and I'll polish it whenever I feel like it, now get out!"
  24. Down here we call them Crescent Wrenches, also a brand name. I just found something new that I must have. Sliding adjustable wrench.
