Float level advice, please.
There were two different lengths of valves originally, I think the front one was longer. Here's something I grabbed from MSA's site " Image Note:In the image you can see two needle valve housings. One is for the front carburetor and one is for the rear (they are different lengths). The interior valve assembly is pre-installed in one of these two. Match the housing length up to the carburetor you are rebuilding, and install the valve assembly in that housing, if not already in the correct housing. Each kit includes both housings, so one will be unused." http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/11-3151 In your picture above that float should be parallel to the lid and higher in the front, opposite the valve side. Do you have the SU DVD from Ztherapy?

I'm injured & bored
Took the stitches out Monday night. Looks better than I thought but it's still numb. Found a new way to roll the carrots and cut spade shaped pieces off. Something good came from my accident, new carrot slices. Whup Whup!!! Just kidding, it sucked. I've got a filthy house and no clean socks plus going commando for a couple of days. But it's just been me and my dog and he's sniffing my bung while I'm sleeping. Damn gay dog!

Aftermarket Kenwood radio not turning on! Where to check first?
That's a price breakdown, $4,750 labor and $800 for supplies. You paid them $5,550 to paint your car, one payment. Very fair for installing new metal IMHO. Quit complaining to us please. Be a man and handle your business.

You get what you pay for! They left the battery connected, possibly. That was your lowest estimate body shop I'm sure.

Brass Valve Seats & Lapping
My machinist cut out the bronze intakes and pressed in the new steel seats then faced them to match the valves that I carried him. I'm almost positive he charged me $70 or $75 and I gave him $100, he always says he hasn't worked on an L head in 20 years but that he had done as many of them as anything back in their day. Onery acting older guy but really just playing around. He has a lot of money making stuff to do and works on mine when he has extra time. I don't understand how it could distort the exhaust seats, that's news to me. I know there is a way to heat the head up in an old oven and they'll pop out but that's not something a machine shop would do, that's something my my tight wad Dad would try. I wouldn't spend $375 on that head. You can search car-part.com and get a Maxima head for $100 to $150. MN47, but it has round exhaust ports. You'd have to search and make sure it will work with your motor. Or if you get lucky a P90 head would be the best. Or put it all back together and drive the tires off, it'll run good enough until you get something better like a junkyard ZX motor like Zed Head said.

EGR and manifold removal tips-78 280Z
How does the egr tunnel under the intake manifold look? Mine rotted bad where the exhaust tube attached. Had to buy another intake. They had a recall on that connection. Mine obviously wasn't fixed. Hopefully your's was. There should be a sticker under the hood if it was part of the recalled VIN #s

I've only been to New Orleans on I-10, I flew to Austin, it was so bad I spilt my beers so it looked like I peed myself. The very first time I went on a GSXR-750, I rented a U-Haul to come back home. It was horrible. That's something to think about Steve. I'm too old to be uncomfortable for 10 hours when I can fly. We have plenty of time to decide fortunately. 8^)

Brass Valve Seats & Lapping
Your valve seats should "mate" to the valves, like staking ice cream cones. Comparing your intake seats to the exhaust seats you can see the "steps" in the soft bronze the valves have caused over the years, it's a lot softer than steel. I don't think you'll get them out hand lapping them. If you could take the head and a valve to a machinist and let them at least look they might could face them $50? You've already taken everything off.

That makes sense Mike, thank you. I never think about kids being in school in the spring and fall and the difficulty of planning around that. I had to get my Mom to stay at my house so I could go to Memphis and not worry about my dog. It's not like I'm not going to come down because of the heat, I'm used to it here, it may determine the car I drive but I'll be there with a smile. I may do what Captain Obvious did last year and fly into DFW? Thanks again!

I want to DIY 3" exhaust without welding..
I know that's the truth! I had a hard time with 2.5" 0n my 240. My 280 with 16" Rewinds doesn't scrape. The 240 with 15s did coming out of my driveway. You should take a measurement from the differential cross member down including the 3 inches for the pipe . Thats the lowest point. My 2.5" will not fit in the cut out all the way. It looks it will but it will not.

Back in the 90s I went to a steak restaurant in Austin that had a rodeo arena inside! Damndest thing I've ever seen. It might have been Gilley's? But that's the "Home of Them Texas Blues" as SRV said.

Brass Valve Seats & Lapping
Zed Head speaks the truth. I was going to run my brass/bronze E31 until someone pointed out that they were sunken in or "beat down" so I had them replaced. It was a do it now or do it later thing for me and I'm guessing you're a whole lot younger than I am. If you did a leak down test and they hold a seal then use them as long as you can. Like Dizeased said that 260 E88 isn't that good anyway. So run it until you find something better. The early E88s have a protruding mound around the spark plug threads, less CCs and higher compression. Blue pointed this out for me, I had no idea. Here's my E31 and a P79, both good heads. See the hump where the plugs thread in, that reduces the area in the combustion chamber giving you more compression. The E31 is the clean one with bronze seats still in it. I finished all the grinding before I had them changed to steel.
