New member introduction - My 76' 280Z in Atlanta
I wonder if you could put a hose on the tank side or input of the fuel pump then run that hose into a gas jug sitting in the hatch, strapped down and secured of course? I know you can a 240 but hadn't thought about a 280. They only make high pressure after the fuel pump so it should work. A temporary solution to get to a garage or mechanic.

$30 quart of red-kote, $10 gallon of acid, $10 quart of acetone. $1 dollar for 2 pounds of baking soda. Correction, $51.

I've never seen that "unleaded fuel only" before. Does your car have that small hole in the filler? I could put diesel fuel in mine! Or a baseball bat.

If you're in a a parking lot get a small boat fire extinguisher at least. A five gallon bucket of water or a ho's pipe if you on the broke side like me.

Never seen anything like that. Looks like the bottom of a boat, barnacles. You will most likely have to drop the tank and clean and coat the inside. Cost me $50 or so on my '77. Google "Red-Kote application instructions" to familiarize your self with the procedure. It's not hard just time sensitive and will take a week to fully cure the liner. I can offer plenty of tips, I've done two so far just let me know.

I run 10W-30 year round, no synthetic either. You should drain the most likely original transmission fluid and refill with Redline MT-90. It will quieten it down. Then replace the differential fluid with Redline 75-90 I think it is. Amazon.com has the best price. Look at the fluid amounts in the factory service manual to determine how much you'll need. Just a couple of quarts for each if I remember right. Your car looks really nice and original. There's some cheap things to do right off the bat that'll help. NGK plug wires and copper plugs. A Fram G-3 clear plastic fuel filter in between the fuel tank and the fuel pump. I can get better details in the morning when I get out my laptop. It has all my bookmarks and this phone doesn't. Also probably need to install a new $10 fuel filter in the engine bay. Check all the rubber vacuum lines for splits or cracks. Clean all the grounding points. Adjust the valves and so on. Easy stuff to do and cheap. I noticed a 4 speed shift knob, whats the build date plate say on the driver's side door panel above the locking/latch mechanism? Mine was built in 09/76 and has a five speed. Read as much as you can, you'll learn a lot quick. Google "'77 280Z classiczcars.com" to get more threads than you can read. 8^)

Ask away. The '77 is owned by a bunch of members, myself included. Probably more help here for that year than any other 280. Looking forward to some photos.

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
I need to use 0000 steel wool when I take my "pants off and jacket"

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
Something else I thought about was the two part clear bar top epoxy for the shift knob but I read it could "possibly" attack the plastic shift pattern button. I didn't want to take that chance.

Deja Vu: 1971 Restoration
Your's looks fantastic ever how you did it. Personally I used 0000 steel wool. I waded a handful and "steered" the wheel until all the sticky stuff was gone and it was slick as glass. Then sprayed it with a touch up HVLP gun I have. No matter how you got there it looks great! I got all the wobble out of my steering after many Benjamin's and laying on my back work but now holding that skinny wheel while driving the back roads is almost hypnotic. Maybe I won't run off in a ditch!

I apologize Zed Head, you've helped me many more times than other. I have gotten a ton of help from Blue, more than my Dad. He's not familiar with foreign cars. Then I spent a week with him in Memphis. A week I'll never forget, all the guys are nicer in person but Phillip walked around and even fixed one on the side of a busy road one night about 11pm (Zup). He has a deep desire to help other people for no gain other than a Thank You and a handshake. I've never met anyone like him, probably never will in this hateful time we are going through, thanks President Trump you dickhead.

When considering helping others put "made in china" in a thimble and tony d in a 5 gallon bucket of s h i t. How many people have tonys rants in their signature?

Now the shift knob. I couldn't get mine exact, the knob is real wood and comes through more yellowish than the cherry or red mahogany of the wheel. I put my knob on an old shift rod and dipped it in Minwax Helmsman satin poly every day for a week. Nice hard finish that covers the plastic shift pattern button as well. It even hid the cracks in the plastic after a few coats.

Shifter and center console issues
Is it the Borg Warner transmission out of the newer ZXs? If so you need to get a different shifter. If it's the older type B from early ZXs you can grind the bottom of the shifter some and it'll click into gear sooner and not hit the console. I had to do it to mine and a couple of other guys too. Our's were popping out of 5th gear and reverse. Without the console out of the car does it shift in and out okay? Borg Warner info; http://datsunzgarage.com/borg/

Original Paint
Yes, they are all single stage enamel. No clear coat. I had a professional cut my dull original paint down then polish it. See the difference in the two photos at the bottom of my post. Hand waxing on the left, after the guy buffed it up on the right. It made a huge difference, more so in real life than the photos allow.
