Yes I know it is 6 years old but...... I couldn't get this link to work so I thought I would add another one with similar info in case others are having the same problem: http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/ - make sure you click through to the "head page" Another interesting tool is attached below. This allows you to determine the compression ratio for the different L-series engine combinations. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/enginemodellingsoftware/index.html
  2. Hey Dean, I would be very interested in the hatch glass if it is in good shape (I am in Whitby, ON). Also, what are you planning on doing with the butterscotch interior? Thanks Colin
  3. I used the following post when wiring an aftermarket antenna (with aftermarket stereo) in my 260z (see post #5). For the full wiring diagram I suggest looking at the factory service manual available at http://www.xenons30.com/ http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread36415.html?referrerid=21940
  4. I bought a generic pump from NAPA that fit (with some lube and elbow grease) the original bottle. I assume NAPA has shops in the US?
  5. Not sure exactly what you mean about rubber around the front and back bumpers. The link below should help with identifying parts. http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsunS30/DatsunZIndex/Body240Z/RadiatorGrilleBumper/tabid/1749/Default.aspx
  6. Keeping with the theme of this thread I woud like to correct my last post. Laverne has 3 240z's (2 restored [iwould assume numbers matching] and 1 totally modified [he has some kind of huge V8 in that thing]).
  7. I am in Whitby which is east of Toronto, however, I am very familiar with Guelph as I spent 6 years at the University of Guelph. I also go by there quite a bit as my parents live in Kitchener (just west of Guelph). You will definitely want to hook up with one of our members that lives in Kitchener. His name is Laverne (Ont240 is his forum name on our site). He has been into zcars from the very beginning and has 3 beautifully restored 240z's. He also still loves to work on them on the side. Cheers, Colin
  8. Eddy, When you get back to Ontario look up the OntarioZcar club at http://www.ontariozcar.com/forum/index.php . We would all love to follow your resto project. Where in Ontario are you going.?
  9. I agree, don't stop know. In fact, I have an example of the next one in the series of S30's, the very rare early 74 260z. I may be tempted to let it go if the price is right. Just kidding, that is an awesome collection.
  10. Thanks for the reply. I have a 74 260z but the motor has been rebuilt with an e31 head with spray bar. The 2 questionable cam lobes are smooth but concave. Based on what I have read and what you say I will let the car sit until I can get it repaired. I was dying to get it out after having a bunch of other work done but I guess better safe than sorry.
  11. I have discovered that my camshaft (at least 2 lobes) is fairly worn. It will be a few weeks before I get a chance to have this replaced so I was wondering if it is dangerous to drive it like this. I understand that the surface of the cam is hardened steel but as you get below this it becomes softer and more prone to wear. What is the chance of a catastrophic type event (i.e. large piece of metal coming loose and doing some major damage)? Thanks for the input.
  12. Very interested to hear opinions on this as I have also purchased Black Dragon tie rod ends. Waiting for spring to install.
  13. Thanks....I have some time before the swap so I can try and buff them up.
  14. If grantf does not take them I would be interested. i just purchased a polished valve cover and would like some new bolts. I could send you some cash for shipping etc. thanks

There is probably about 6-8 (4 on bottom and two or 3 on either side). Start prying gently at the botton trailing edge (of course remove inner door handles and latch first). They pop off fairly easily. The top of the panel just hooks over the top of the door frame.
  16. That is one of my dream 240z's (the other is silver with red interior). If I didn't live 3000 miles away I would be all over it.

Thanks for the reply. I hope it is just the fuse but the relay was definitely clicking. I will post results (probably a couple of weeks as the battery is off the car and back in the basement waiting for the next warm spell).

Upon further review, it appears the 10A fuse is the same fuse that the radio uses??
  19. Early 74 260z. Had the centre console off to replace shifter bushings which went well. I decided to tackle my rear defog problem. Last year it was intermittent at best (i.e. if I turned on switch the indicator light may or may not come on - I couldn't tell you if the defog grid worked as I didn't drive in conditions where it was required). Testing today showed power to the switch but intermittent power to light (I could here relay cutting in and out with switch). After messing with it for a bit I managed to get no power to switch -great!. The FSM shows a 10A fuse between the ignition and the defog switch (I assume in-line fuse). Does anyone know approximately where this fuse lies (note the 20A fuse in the fuse panel has power over it). As a follow-up, if I manage to get power to the switch I will still have the intermittent power to the indicator light problem. What are the chances the relay has gone? (I have a replacment but it is very difficult to get at). Thanks for the help.
  20. That car brings back memories. When my familiy emigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1974 a 510 wagon was our first family car. My brother and I used to borrow the car to drive around to local ice rinks looking for pick-up hockey games. Not a great winter car. I then bought a 2-door 510 as my first car when I turned 16. I now have a 72 260z
  21. You should be as it is a beautiful car. One of my favorite color combos, that and silver with red interior.
  22. Thanks Leon. I appreciate your help given that this has become a bit of a thread jack on my part. I have to say it is nice to see a 260z thread where people are actually not trashing the most rare Zcar. One of the PO's did the shocks some time ago so I think you are right it is time for a change. I will follow-up with the outcome.
  23. I do not get crashing over large bumps it is more a feeling that the tires are bouncing. I can feel this bounce at very low speeds on very smooth surfaces and at high speeds. The bounce tends to get better at high speeds if I adjust my shocks to the stiffest setting but I still feel it at lower speeds. One thing I did not mention earlier is that I only feel this on the driver's side rear. I have tried rotating the tires to see if there is an issue with flat spots or a bent rim but the bounce continues to be felt in driver's rear only. I thought it may be the half shaft u-joint that was a bit loose but repairing that had no effect.
  24. Just wondering....I have a 03/74 260z with Eibach springs installed by PO. Since I have had the car there has been a feeling of an uneven ride in the rear (almost like there are flat spots on the tires -there aren't). Would this be a symptom of the bump stop issue discussed above? thanks
  25. What kind of Yokohamas do you have? I just bought 205/60/R15 Yokohama Avid Envigors (haven't put them on yet). Hopefully I have better luck.
