BOSCH H4 Headlights:
Thank you for the feedback. Looks like Spring will be a busier time for most of you with your cars currently in hibernation for the Winter. I will put in an order and stock a few pairs of these headlights. I do still have 2 sets in stock for sale so if you need to upgrade now let me know.

Headlight Replacement?
Someone sent this to me awhile ago: It may be generic enough for 240Z-280Z.

Very large oil leak
Plus in most cases the manual transmission oil has a distinctive smell.

Very large oil leak
Remove the transmission and take a peek. Rear main seal can be changed with the engine in the car. BUT: If it's a really big leak, what have you done recently to the car? Normally the rear main seal doesn't leak that badly or just start suddenly.
-
rear main seal question
When you have the seal out check the rear main for a groove worn from contact with the seal lip. You may want to reposition the seal so that the lip is making contact on an area not worn. Easy enough to see and feel with the seal removed.

How long to install Grant steering wheel?
If you are not using a puller but pulling by hand, leave the middle nut on but loosened near the end of the threads (at least 1 full turn) so that you do not wack yourself in the face.

Not Z related but the Skyline guys...
Nope, sadly that's already been decided.

According to some folks much closer than myself to the source the crash tests submitted were for Maxima's performed by Nissan. It was later discovered that these vehicles were not the same as represented by the company submitting the documentation. It all really becomes moot since the Feds. are grabbing up R32, R33 and R34's. Sad.

Do any of you have this problem.
Sorry to ruffle everyone's feathers (pun intended). Maybe I got carried away with the redneck crack. And it was not aimed at any particular group by location of residence or choice of career, just mentality, and they are everywhere. I guess we only get de-sensitivity training in Cali. I've got a few relatives that live in the county you both reside. (Obvious if you know my name) So, from now on I will be PC to the max. Recently I've been testing a Bulb made by Federal Mogul under the Wagner "TruView" Branding. Here's what the company has to say: "TruView headlamps by Wagner Lighting Products are the first headlamps to provide a truer, whiter light than conventional halogen beams. TruView headlamps provide exceptional forward visibility without projecting the offensive (and potentially dangerous) glare commonly associated with high-intensity discharge (HID) systems and high-mounted headlamps. This technology even helps other drivers see well." http://www.federalmogul.com/en/AftermarketSolutions/EMEA/ServiceSolutions/Products/WagnerLighting/TruviewHeadlamps/ For certain applications they do seem better than the other comparable offerings from Sylvania, GE, etc. My personal favorite is still the Narva XB3, but Narva discontinued making bulbs for certain applications so a good replacement was necessary. The jury is still out on the TruViews as that replacement. One issue being a shorter service life in the ones I have tested in vehicles with DRL's through the headlight bulb. But they are a vast improvement over standard halogen style bulbs in all other respects.

Sadly with your rush to judgment, you do not understand that my communication being tongue in cheek was meant as humor to someone I have known for quite some time at another website. Funny how folks want to start a tussle do so by stating they really do not. I don't think you are going to like Erzelda's chicken jokes much as well. So easy to PM someone but it never quite gets that public exposure.

I remember being at a service garage when the guy from one of the larger gray market importers showed up with the compliance stickers for an R32 GTR that was there. The car was now "legal". But the headlights had never been brought up to DOT. The owner of the car said "who cares I got my certification". I wonder if he cares now? I was witness to an R34 GTR getting shredded at a place called Clean Steel in L.A. That was a crying shame.

Are you shopping for answers at all the forums or just having a senior moment? You live in redneck country 'pard, you just need to 'git used to it. Shifting Gears: This is an issue that has developed quite a debate with NHTSA and the car industry. The term used these days is "dazzle" and you are falling into the highest age group of complainants about this phenomenon. Thank the good 'ol USofA and their penchant for having standards that vary from everywhere else in the world so you can see that overhead sign that is not illuminated on that rural highway outside of town. Imagine what a 10 watt bulb would cost the taxpayers?! Then add the desire for folks to buy cheap Chinese HID's and retrofit them in housings not designed for that application. Result; Crazy bright stray light and dazzle all over the place. But the folks that have them think they are great and really do not understand what seeing and seeing properly constitute. Here's some light reading on the subject: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html http://www.danielsternlighting.com/nhtsa/NHTSA.html (thanks Dan) Best to write your congressman about our screwy laws compared to the rest of the world (and start taking along 'yer .44 'fer them varmints).

SoCal 5th Annual Avocado Run; March 6th
I was at the monthly car meet at Crossroads Shopping Center in Torrance last night. A couple of our Group Z members were commenting that they would be on the run. A couple others were saying maybe. I think the price of gas is holding them back from saying yes for sure. I hope everybody has a great time and doesn't lose too much money at the Pala Casino at the end of the run.

SCAMMER ALERT Please read my fellow Z friends
I knew this guy that would screw everyone at any opportunity, really amoral. I warned an associate about his dealings and the guy went ahead and did business with him anyway. After he too got screwed he complained to me that how could this guy do it to him? Posting is good, but understanding is a whole other level. Not too far off topic: I think my funniest Nigerian scam letter recently was to my club email from a woman trying to give me fifty million dollars. It was such a "Personal & Confidential" letter that it was sent to undisclosed recipients in the To: Column. Funny. She was not going to give the money to the rightful heirs because they were pagans and she was sure I was a Christian. If they only knew how ridiculous their letters read. But as P.T. Barnum is believed to have said; "There's a sucker born every minute". And as W.C. Fields did say; "You can't cheat an honest man".

BOSCH H4 Headlights:
Just an FYI: I have two pair of the Bosch headlights left. I know it's early in the year and many folks won't bring their car out of hibernation until later when it's nearer to the Spring so interest may be low right now. The reason I'm writing this is that my supplier has contacted me to purchase more while they are still available. As I stated before it is not something I usually stock and sell, especially since it is not going to be available at this price once his/my inventory is finally depleted. And to be perfectly honest with you no matter how good a deal I just don't want to inventory a bunch of these in anticipation of some sale way down the road, maybe. So, do you think there will be an interest in purchasing these for your car as the weather warms? (Spring/Summer) The back story behind this is that a motorcycle manufacture in the US, (pretty easy to figure out who), went out of business. The lights had already been made and shipped to the wholesale distributor that supplied the manufacturer and he got stuck with unpaid inventory palletized for assembly line installation. So my guy bought them. Which makes these available at a price I have not seen for this Bosch housing in the time I've been doing this business, and that's a long time. There are other avenues of sale for me in any vehicle that uses a 7 inch round headlight, but making a market in something limited in availability to undercut products I offer on an ongoing and unending basis does not make good business sense. If you can PM me or email me I'll get a list going to see if it's going to be worthwhile to purchase and inventory these for the short term future. Thanks for your input, John (john@h4lights.com)

erzelda brings greetings and salutations!
The exodus may accelerate. The Spammers latest tactic is to post inside threads that are newish with high view count so as my witnessed example you scroll down hit a post from a newbie and there are 100 links in the post to porn. I wonder if vertical experiences this on all the sites they own? If so it must be a real annoyance to administer/moderate. Or a bizarre business model I am not familiar with. I admit I do not fit the demographic they advertise they target for. (18-34 yo) But I guess that's what it takes to make the big bucks in the virtual world.

What's the best way to determine Z value
Well, according to KBB "Official Guide For Early Model Vehicles": Fair is 5100 Good is 11,300 Excellent is 18,600 Accurate? Who knows but it is one industry sources opinion used by those in the auto resale business.

Z Car Dot Com Was Sold?
I was doing some P's & M's with Tony's son the other day about ZC.C . His comment put me back in perspective: "What do you expect John, It's the internet". I get it. I wish Derek and the others well, I'm hoping he kept a taste of the casino games, er, ad revenue skim over there. Hey, I gave up my space at a Sheryl Crow concert for his folks many years ago at The Grove. No biggie the guys I was running with that day had all access passes for us all so we went to another better location to enjoy our musical afternoon.

Z Car Dot Com Was Sold?
Just talked to Tony in Manila at the airport. He's on his way to Beijing and down to Shanghai. I'm sure we will read more from him here in the future.

Z Car Dot Com Was Sold?
Versus what? Raping non-virgin babies? You called it the owners denied it and now it's a cash machine destined for the pump 'n dump program. From my perspective this offers up a better environment with options that could have prevented the 'problems' over there. BUT, I still like to watch train wrecks.
