front speakers
I had a pair of Infinity Reference 3 1/2" in a Monte SS. Great name brand, outstanding sound (esp. for a 3 1/2") and a decent price too. As far as hearing whats going on outside the car, that's what the volume knob/button is for. For my own car audio I always go for quality not quantity. Nate

car shipping in North America
Has anyone had any experience with shipping of a car, Z or otherwise? If so... What company did you use? Would you use them again? How far and How much? Anything you would have done differently or anything someone should check on prior to choosing a carrier? I have quotes ranging from $750 to $945 for an open trailered truck from California to South Carolina (2,500 plus miles). Nate

Can an East Coaster get a set of eyes?
Hello to all of ya'll on the Left Coast. My dream Z has popped up in SoCal. San Clemente (Between LA and SD) to be exact. Could I sweet talk anyone out there into taking a close look at her for me, you know, check all the usuals? It would be a huge favor . I will be in Northern California Mid February for a month and could pick the car up then, or I might even have it shipped ASAP, if it's in good enough shape. Please let me know if this is possible Nate

Reliable/powerful L24?
Jayru, Welcome! I feel an L28ET coming on also! I would like to mention something that hasn't been talked about yet... weight! How much did your Galant weigh? That coupled with the fact that the Z is a real sports car. It's not mom's econobox or a AWD family car hopped up on forced air. Not trying to offend by any means, but many cars are a compromise. The Z is just a true affordable sports car. Good Luck with the gearheads never ending search for more power, and I hope that you stay L-series. Nate

3/4 ton. Nice truck Jeff! Does it sit that high because it's a HD or is it a 4wd? Nate

what are symptoms of bad diff?
Have you checked the fluid level? Does it change or go away after the car warms up or when you take a turn? Just trying to get more info. My only experience with a "bad" diff was on my old '84 Monte Carlo SS. I over doubled the power, blocked off the 1st-2nd accumulator and the first time I punched it after breaking it in it ripped darn near all the teeth off the spider gears. I replaced it with a junkyard 3.73:1 posi because I had very little money left and it worked fine. I don't normally suggest running junkyard parts but I did have good luck. Of course that was a solid axle car too. My 2 cents Nate

Stock OHC? ...or not
I see the car was once blue. That's quite the descriptive location.

Just Say No! ... to forced induction.

Headlight wiring
Just wanted to toss in my 2 cents... As an electronics tech of 8 years I assure you that current "flow" is negative to positive. Mperdue was dead on on that one, engineer or tech I assume? Up until every car had like 3 fuse boxes there was only one, which had probably 10' of wire between it and the battery... hence fusible links onthe high draw circuits, ie: the starter AND the lines feeding the fuse box. just my 2 cents, Nate

What is your desktop wallpaper?

Ford's newest addition
Here we go! I found some pics of the 1999 Z concept... did ya'll know that it was originally slated for a 200 hp DOHC 2.4L 4 cylinder? A modified KA24 maybe? Nate

Ford's newest addition
Why do figure they aren't calling it (Ford) Shelby Daytona Coupe? Wasn't that the name of the original back in the 60's? Any way... It does look like their Aston Martin line and the best design for the new Z was the original concept drawing, it looked more like a modern 240. Nate

4 barrel carb adapter
Don't do it. Jeff1216 tried one so talk to him. He gave up and went to a Chevy Small Block and is now back to a straight 6. But if you do decide to go with the 4 bbl let me know, I have a Arizona Z car intake manifold and I'll give you a helluva deal on it. I will be going to sea tomorrow for two months... if you want it and need it before then email me to work out a deal and my wife can ship it to you. Ont he other hand I hear the Z Therapy carbs are outstanding. Nate

electric blue and white stripes...sounds like a live show!
A lot of times those old chevy's had vinyl Landau tops, so the stripes were only on the hood and trunk, although on cars without the vinyl top I have seen them on the roof. Notice how the stripes on 240zguy's pic go all the way down to the spoiler. On the older style they stopped at the end of the hood and trunk. I'll see what else I can dig up. Nate

Stupid Engine Question
There could be many reasons why they used an I6 so consider these... Inline 6's are inherently well balanced, unlike V-6's. Inline 6's create a lot of torque for their size. Remember torque is what get's you off the line and allows for better acceleration at lower rpm's. Inline engines have been around longer than the V motors. Pick one... regardless it's a great engine! I'll try to find a better pic of what I'm talking about, maybe you've seen them.

I have seen this before on a Z. Look in the gallery under some of the shows, like shasta or MSA. The one (s) I have seen before were the plain stripes that go front to back, but may I recommend the '60's and '70's Muscle Car style (Chevelle SS) where the stripes don't run all the way from bottom of front to bottom of back, but instead from the end of the hood to the end of the trunk and have the small "pin" stripe around each stripe.
