  1. Car is completely disassembled, assessing the rails. Obviously the rears and the floors need replacing, I'm hoping to save the seat attachment points, we'll see. Front rails need some love, not sure yet if replacement is needed. Front cross member is rusty but only on the rear portion, it appears clean on the inside other than a couple of areas. Ill be removing the battery tray to address the firewall where it attaches to the rear part of the fender wells on both sides of the car. Pretty gnarly. All the brake and fuel lines are off at this point now.
  2. We got jammed! Lone Star.....
  3. Ewwww. Is there a hemorrhoid wheel, or aftermarket attachment available?
  4. I wonder how they figured out 2700 RPMs were the right amount?
  5. Merry Christmas.
  6. I was just thinking of the same thing. Funny stuff.
  7. Guilty. I have had a mint 240Z hatch in the baster bedroom closet behind my wife's clothes for a few years now. Just couldnt put it out in the shop for it to get rusty. Maybe I'll move some of her clothes out and put the Webers in there as well............
  8. I had it in a bag and big plastic container, but after a while I started getting a bad feeling about how long it was actually going to be just sitting. I know its not an exciting subject, but I appreciate the input.
  9. Since I'm restoring the 240 and hope to be installing these Webers in a year or so, what is the best method for storing the carbs? I have the tops, was just inspecting them. Thanks guys.
  10. We did, and you put a little fear in me so its all good now. I looked at the attach points and nothing moved.
  11. I am a mechanic, but not a restorer, and I have decided to weld and fix all my rust issues on my 240 and fully restore it. I have the room to do it. I can see if you dont have the room to do it may make it more daunting, but where theres a will theres a way.
  12. Looks like a young Dusty Springfield.
  13. Maybe FairladyZ on the fenders and right below it in small font "tribute"? Anyone with the ability to use context clues should have zero questions for me. But I'm sure I would get the occasional, "They made LHD Fairladys?"
  14. Beautiful car! I wish I had the black mirrors, but I have the chrome ones. I like the idea of the Fairlady 240Z, but this would have still been a RDH car? Instead of grinding these brand new FairladyZ emblems, maybe a swap for the other ones is in order, or just source some if available.
  15. An immolation. A homage.
  16. Even have the FairladyZ glove box door emblem.
  17. I'm in JAX. I saw this ad yesterday, I was thinking if the post is close to accurate, that may be a good deal.
  18. A couple of you may have seen the thread I started on my 73 rotisserie restoration. So I have had this car for a long time waiting to do the restoration, and my intent years ago was to clone it as a FairladyZ, with you know, the LHD. I'm just now getting started after the deconstruction of the car, so look for updates on that thread. I have in my possession the earmarks to do this. JDM taillights, fender mirrors, original style badges, chrome ringed headlight lenses (real ones). I also have a set of "D" hubcaps, not really sure thats Fairladyish on the hubcaps, but I think they are cool. The kid (relative) I was when I got this car still exists in me, but since I'm an adult, but like a real adult I still think I want to do it, even though I may get some feedback from purists, and I hear you. I am as far away as can be from being a restomod person, but dont knock it because to each their own and in the end they all look great. I have had other 240's all the while this particular car was waiting around as I was getting my gut right to do this restoration, and I had all the JDM stuff, but resisted to bolt it on the other cars I had because I knew it would not turn out well with the slapped on look. But I believe if I start from the get go on the current car, I think I could make it look right, other than the LHD. I'm ready for your thoughts or concerns.
  19. A friend of mine who started transporting cars back in the 70's told me he had seen many ZCars twisted back in the day because of this. He and his company were picking up brand new Datsuns from the docks. Even 280ZX were being bent.
  20. Not trying to hijack the thread with old stuff, but all the pics of you powder coating puts a huge smile on my face. I'm sold, I'll be getting one of these!
  21. Thats great, if I tried that in North Florida, the Z would be toast. I was getting concerned after a bunch pages and I never saw primer being applied after the media. I'm not jumping ahead on the thread, I dont want to spoil the good show.
  22. The car sat for a long time in bare metal right? No flash rust?
  23. Hi again, just making my way through the thread, still........thank you BTW for all the documentation. If I missed it forgive me, but what did you do with the body to prep for priming? I didnt see if any what you did after the media blasting to seal the metal from flash rusting. True inspiration, and its kind of scaring me, just a little.
  24. Page 16, you just got the spindle pin out......... If only had some pop corn it would be better.
