Today is Last Day
What kind of condition is the car in? Do you have any more pictures of her other than the avatar? Would you be willing to do a "buy back" deal in January? I'm just looking for a way to help. I'm in Covina/San Dimas 91723

Is someone trying to scam me?
Exact same thing happened to my cousin for her wedding dress. They sent her a "certified" check for 5000, told her to deduct her selling price, and send the remainder from her bank account. She lost the money in her bank account, AND the check was fake, so she had to pay the bank back 5000! And the stupid thing is, she asked the stupid bank manager to make sure it was a real check! They didn't seem to care about that part, though. they wanted their 5000.

She's gotta go :(
Start a "Save The Z" fund! Where do I send the check? How long have you had her?

Who has a 77 280z
Metal floorboards, hmm... Would that fit into a 77? I'm kind of tired of this fiberboard as well.

Anyone know about a lot of dings?
Actually sblake, I bought the 77 to replace the 78 and was hoping to save money that I don't have by getting a car with an engine that was just rebuilt, on top of other work like new fuel lines, new radiator, new brakes sets, and new master cylinders, and selling the 78 after I took the reupholstered seats from it. So no, I don't have money to fix the 78, that's why I had to buy the 77 on credit, hoping to quickly sell the 78 to make up for the loss. Anyway, how much does it cost to remove a ton of small "waves" or dings generally? Is it a complicated process? You're right, I would have to have the whole car repainted at the same time, but because of a rust spot on the hatch because of those louvers on the 77 and a big dent in the front air dam, the 77 will have a few of the 78 parts on it anyway.

Anyone know about a lot of dings?
I just got a 77 to replace my 78, and the 77 runs great, but the problem is that the 77 that I plan to keep has a ton of very smal dings all over the body, especially those convex dings on the top middle of the font fenders. Now the 78 was just painted about a year ago (previous owner) and it has almost no dings anywhere, except a tiny convex ding on one of the front fenders in the same spot as the other car. My question is, I am thingking about stripping the all of the panelling that I can, including the doors and hatch, from the newly painted 78 to put onto the 77, then sell the 78 after that switch is completed. Is this a good idea, or should I leave the 78 as is and go try to get someone to fix the dings in the 77? The dings are all so tiny, but the metal doesn't look smooth at all because of the number of dings. What's cheaper, and is there an easier way to handle this? Thanks.

shifter bushing
I just put some brass bushings in my shifter from ebay for about 15 bucks. The store link is http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcaptdavetools or do a search for seller captdavetools He has 100% feedback. I'm happy with the set I bought.

Looking for t-top weatherstrip for my 78 Pop-Top
I've looked everywhere and I can't find the new seals for my t-top. I know it's not factory installed, but the t-top says LeVan on it and I can't find the company or anyone that sells the seal for it. It's the double window sunroof. I know a few of you have the same sunroof and maybe you've dealt with the same problem, especially with the rainy season coming.

New to the forum and new to my 240z
Red Dog and Fun are right, the Z is not the car to make money off of. You could easily drop 6000 into a Z and not be able to sell it for more than 4. It all depends, though. Sometimes you can get a buyer looking for exactly what you are selling. For profit, I would definitely look at another car. The Z is for Z lovers.

Free Parts! (Some to trade also)
So I thought this would be a good thread to maybe keep going for the benefit of the Z family here. I got a box of parts that came with my 78. Some are for a 78, some for 260z, and I was wondering if maybe any regulars from the forum needed any for their Z. Of course, shipping would have to be paid by whoever wants them, but I have a postage scale, so you'd be paying only exactly what you needed to. Not sure what to do about payment methods, but maybe this isn't a good idea anyway. Either way, I'll give my parts away. This might be a good thread for trading, too, but that would probably not be too common. To kick things off, I have a speedometer from a 260z that should fit all years, not sure. It has a small scratch on the lip, but it's good and was working as far as I know when removed. I also have a brake caliper taken from the same 260, I think it goes to the back. it' very clean. To trade, I bought a Haynes manual from Ebay and it only gives instructions for the 240a and the 260z, with a one-chapter supplement for the 280 that I find almost useless. The book was originally written after the build of the 260, and when they did a reprint, someone thought it was good enough to just add a chapter for the 280z and that would be enough. I have a 280 and I'm sure a lot of the instructions are the same, but I don't want to have to guess for every procedure. If anyone has a haynes manual with "240z, 260z, and 280z" on the cover, not just "240z and 260z", than I will pay the shipping to do a swap. Hope this thread is a half-good idea, but if it's not, I don't care. I'll just put the parts up on ebay. I hope someone here needs them!

Do It In A Datsun
I once knew of a drunk girl who ripped herself on the stick shift... not sure if it was a 4 speed or a five speed. Apparently she kept going- she was that drunk.

How often do you see 240-Z's on the road?
I usually see one or two everyday here in Covina. And they're usually fixed up. The one I did see that needed a paint job was a 280zx, and those are usually not common around here.

They found my stolen Z!!!
Okay, first report on the 280Z: They screwed up the ignition, so the key won't work, and a screwdriver won't even work. I have to get a new one. They stole, for some odd reason, a bunch of the interior panels, including the center console, which was warped and cracked and from a 260Z. Some of the panels were new because i just got them from ebay. The radio area is all torn up, but I'm too tired to give the whole car a complete inspection to see exactly how much damage was done. They took a brand new set of halogen headlights that I was going to put in. Just got those from blackdragonauto.com. Thankfully, I got a heavy-duty harness for the lights that was still in the back. I haven't really been able to check out the engine, since I can't start it up until I replace the ignition. Oh man, there's a hundred and twenty dollars, and oh yeah, I had to spend 490 dollars getting it out of the tow yard and tow it to my house, since it wouldn't start at the tow yard. Losing that much money in one day and getting less of a car back really takes the energy out a person. I'm tired and pissed and I'm going to bed (not being lazy, I work graveyard). Thanks again to everyone who kept an eye out for the car, the police won't tell me where the car was found or who reported it, but I'd like to think someone from the Z forum saw it and called the police (hey, it's possible). Thanks for all the support and condolences. Let's see what happens to the Z now, I'm tapped for cash. If I have to sell it, I guess it's still restored with new upholstery and carpet and paint, so maybe someone will want it. Bittersweet day.

They found my stolen Z!!!
I just got a call from the police department in the next city and they found my Z! I have to go to the station, get a release form, then go to the tow yard and pick her up. I don't know what the interior looks like, but the guy said it wasn't stripped on the outside. I just hope they didn't mess up the engine any more than it was, because with even that small extra damage, I will have to sell the car, because there's no money to fix it. I'll post pictures when I get back if they damaged it, but hopefully it's fine.

California Dreaming
Another car on ebay. What do you think, worth 46,0000? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1974-datsun-260-z-show-room-new-19-000-miles-240z-280z_W0QQitemZ290171677073QQihZ019QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
