ARA air conditioning installation instructions
I can try to get a cleaner scan of that page and will post if it works. I removed the ARA A/C set up many years ago when I upgraded to a more modern system with a rotary compressor. So, I'm unable to visually check for the attachment point you referenced. Good luck with your project and thanks for the question. It gave me an excuse to dig out old Datsun files. November 2021 marked the 50th anniversary of when I bought my Z. The ARA A/C was installed in 1972.

ARA air conditioning installation instructions
Good idea. I've carried that paper copy around for 50 years just waiting for someone to ask to see it and no telling how many more years I will be making it available. π

I'm a Boy Scout covered with patches, again.
Does the "10 Followers" badge count if some of the followers haven't checked into the forum in 10 or 12 years? I don't have 10 and half of what I do have appear to have moved on years ago.

Restoration profit
In 1970, I shipped my Pontiac Gran Prix from San Francisco to Manila. A few days after it arrived, I was driving and dropped something that rolled under the seat. When I got home, I reached under the seat to get it and grabbed something covered in fur. Scared the snot out of me. Poked a stick under the seat and dislodged a toy squirrel that had been tucked up into the seat springs apparently by someone during the voyage across the Pacific to the Philippines. I was the original owner of the car, so I knew it wasn't there before loading on the ship.

Maybe while waiting for the Grand Master shirts to become available, we could work on a secret handshake.

Attitude. Read @sightunseen's post again. Looks like he was encouraging, not demoralizing. One of us clearly misunderstands his comment.

We need to look into having GRAND MASTER shirts made. π

Since a GRAND MASTER is never wrong, the disparate response above was referring to earlier comments by both Patcon and Siteunseen. However does anyone have a picture of them together in the same place at the same time as proof they're not the same guy?

Is GRAND MASTER the highest title or might there be SUPER GRAND MASTER as more badges are "earned"?

The sign of time well spent. Power on, Grand Master Cliff! π

But, Count De Monet (Count da Money) would also know that GRAND MASTERS only use their powers for good, not evil, on this forum. With awesome power comes awesome responsibility. You may quote me. π

To paraphrase Shakespeare, "Heavy is the head that wears the GRANDMASTER crown". π Jingle all the way!

My son works for Google and they have loads of badges as well as other tidbits of information, like how may other employees have the same first name.

Z Proto: The next z reveal
The folks who produced the VW new Beetle, current Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Ford Mustang, and Chevrolet Camaro might tend to disagree.

Speaking on behalf of Cliff and all the other 1%ers who have achieved GRANDMASTER status, relax, we'll be in the area all day. You'll know we've left the room when you no longer hear the jingle of our badges. π

Cliff, post a picture after you sew them on your driving suit. π

New member needing some opinions
Welcome to the group! As mentioned, seats appear to be recovered. There are sources for reasonably priced original style vinyl replacement upholstery which is a good DIY project. Shift knob should be wood - reproductions are available if it's important to you. There are a few AC options and as mentioned, AC on early cars was a dealer installed or aftermarket option. If you want to go "old school" with the AC you'll need a clunky York compressor unit - I did this in 1972. Current kits use a smaller and more efficient rotary unit - I replaced my York system with a rotary in 2007. I live where daily summer temperatures range from 110ΒΊ to 125ΒΊ and it cools the Z adequately. A louver unit on the hatch glass is nice for blocking the sun and keeping interior cooler. Keep. us posted on the progress.

Bob Bondurant - RIP
I met Bob Bondurant when I attended his driving school in 1992. I wore his driving suit during some track days. At the end of the school session, he spent time with the "students" telling stories and shaking hands. It was a rush and a lasting memory to shake the hand that worked the Cobra gears at Le Mans. Rest in Peace.

1978 280Z FACTORY convertible!! Looking for some info
Here are a couple links. Scroll through the first to see more on the Griffith where it mentions a lighted opening rear trunk and where the chassis strengthening is located. The second link is an earlier discussion on this forum. http://datsunforum.com/the-datsun-z-as-a-roadster-a-background-and-history/

240 hood badge- A suggestion
Nice job with your solution. Another way to do it is to spray the entire emblem and then wipe a pad lightly soaked with paint thinner across the high spots before the paint dries - that's a process I've used in restoring lettering and emblems on vintage metal dealer style license plate frames.
