  1. Ran into this on an Electric Conversion thread... Wheel looks similar, but not quite the same... http://seth.drivexc.com/240Z/Album%201%20-%20Engine%20Removal/Album%201-Pages/Image0.html
  2. Without Z-Therapy, life on this planet would cease to exist...
  3. Your splines look better than mine did. Like Stephen and Jay mentioned, the clutch tool needs to seat all the way into the pilot bearing in the crank shaft which puts the disc perfectly in the center of the pressure plate. Loosen up the pressure plate, jam the tool in all the way and re-tighten the plate. Might want to pull the whole pressure plate off and test fit the disk on the transmission splines and file if necessary, but it looks okay from what I'm seeing...
  4. My alignment tool fit fine, but my transmission splines didn't. After I ripped it apart I tested the clutch disk on the transmission spindle and it wouldn't go on. After filing it (and vacuuming the dust off) I put the thing in straight away. I only had to file the leading edge, not the whole length of the spline... Transmission angle alignment is also tricky...
  5. Absolutely concur. New foam and add the straps below the seat springs and you will be amazed... I used the "Datsun Reinforcing Strap Kit" from Datsun restore. Very very nice.
  6. Went with a brown. My wife hated the butterscotch...
  7. I had the same problem once. It ended that the new Nissan clutch disk had some rough spots on the splines that needed filing. It sucked because I had to take the whole thing apart. It was 1/2 inch back like you describe.
  8. Looks like you have all the studs out. Putting new ones in?
  9. CZOT meets once a month. About 20-30 members make it to club meetings once a month. Might also call the Z clinic (zclinc.net) for some ideas.
  10. Mull is back for the holidays!
  11. Looks like it shows up on the microfilm for the 260Z on. Check fiche 4/8 Section 54A-2 parts number 8 and part 9 look similar... Ubiquitous "clip" notated in the description. Didn't see a listing in the 240 films.
  12. None on mine either, but no smog or stock distributor either :cheeky:
  13. Pull ties work! Considering you have a smog pump and braided radiator hose guess you probably want stock? You probably want a stock hose clamp too?
  14. Did you have any gas smell? The injector should have been pushing the gas somewhere. Doubt it was totally sealed off. Interesting problem...
  15. I just got back from the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel for a conference (nice!). Lots of folks from San Diego were checking in with their kids and pets all pretty freaked out not knowing if their house was burning or not. I'm sure they were unable to enjoy the hotel considering...
  16. I think I'd put whatever I have as a "good cheap 5 speed". Seems to work great, correct shift pattern, but wonky 4th to 5th to 4th shifts and low overdrive ratio. Uses the same stock 1972 driveshaft. I'm very happy with it considering the $50 bucks. If I can get a ZX tranny around $150, I'll probably do it.
  17. Dogleg must refer to the unnatural 4th to 5th shift where you pop it up out of 4th, push it over hard like going to reverse then up into fifth. That sounds like my transmission. I'm at something like 3700 rpm's at 80 mph, so yes it needs more overdrive. Time to get another transmission
  18. I'd recommend replacing the bolts and use lots of thread lubricant. I've seen Z's with broken tensioners which causes timing slop.
  19. Gimp for Linux is what I use.
  20. Wow, what a bonus. If your taking comments from the peanut gallery, I vote for removing the door ding guard strip down the sides and go back to a chrome front bumper!
  21. About 15 years ago pallets of used 5 speed Nissan truck transmissions started showing up in Z shops around here. I was told Japan forced cars off the road at 30K miles and parts were salvaged and shipped to the USA (true?). Anyway, I bought one for $50.00. Its downshift from 5th to 4th takes a while to get used to but with my R200 3.9 gear ratio, I had to have the fifth gear so I'm happy enough with it. By the way, love the name clutchdust
  22. Reading this thread makes me realize why no one has produced a "Pimp my Z" TV show
  23. I was getting 11 to 12 mpg in my 240Z. Traced it down finally. The rear carb float bowl gasket was bent into the chamber producing a leak with a nice stream of gas onto the exhaust manifold during right hand turns!
  24. Lucinda Williams, Son Volt, Wilco, James McMurtry, Jon Dee Graham, Uncle Tupelo. Jon D and McMurtry usually do a Wednesday show here for $10.00, but the bar caters to 50's hot rod'rs. They don't take to kindly to Z's...
