aftermarket seat belt from MSA for 70-73
I suppose it depends on where you put the retractor. Several club members have mounted the retractor up at the top mount (near the quarter window) and that does not require the drilling of a hole. See this post for details: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24256

Confusion about original fuel setup
Yes. That was the factory setup on the 240Z's. The wiring was put back there for an electric pump, but there was no pump from the factory. My Z had an electric pump added at some point by a previous owner, but I don't use it (unless the car hasn't been run in a while, and I'll use the electric as a 'kicker' to get fuel up to the carbs). During normal operation, I only use the mechanical pump, and I've had no issues at all.

Confusion about original fuel setup
Are you sure about the condition of the tank? What do your fuel filters look like? You may want to assume that the entire fuel system is suspect, and start at the tank and work your way forward. I had some issues with fuel delivery when I first purchased my car, so I drained the tank, installed new lines all the way to the carbs, installed see-through filters (Fram G2's) front and rear, and also replaced the mechanical fuel pump with a brand new unit from Nissan. I haven't had any issues with fuel delivery since. My car has an electric pump installed back at the rear, under the tank, but the mechanical pump is quieter and more reliable (in my opinion).

Best car cover for an early Z?
Maybe I should put my daughter (and her bike) in there.......

Best car cover for an early Z?
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be parking her in the garage, so I won't need anything that's too weatherproof. I do need something that's kidproof....don't want my daughter walking past the car and rubbing her bike handlebars down the side of my new paint job....

Best car cover for an early Z?
When my 240Z comes home from the paint booth, I'm going to want to put a cover on her. Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent car cover? I searched the archives, but couldn't find anything. Thanks, guys....

Deep thoughts
I like my Z because every time I step out of it, I can't stop smiling. I also enjoy that small moment of worry when, after going through a speed trap on the Blue Ridge Parkway, I find myself wondering if the rangers are going to stop me -- not for going too fast, but because my exhaust is too loud!

My 240Z....Headed Off For Paint!
Thanks guys. I'm having the body work and paint done at a local VW restoration shop (I've seen the guy's work, he's very meticulous). He's going to fix some rust on the driver's rear fender and in the wheel arch, on the rear deck lid, and he's also going to fill in the side marker light holes for me. Anyway, I got a great price on the job and I'm pretty excited about it. I'll be sure to post 'after' photos when the car comes home! I am going with 904 on the rear spoiler, yes. It would definitely be a good time to add a front spook, something that I had intended to do before now and just haven't gotten to it. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get that out of the way now! What's the best source for a BRE-style spook? Does anybody have an opinion on ducted versus ductless?

My 240Z....Headed Off For Paint!
Here is my 240Z a few minutes before I drove her off to the body shop earlier today. She's going to receive some minor body work before being gently massaged, rubbed down, and then shot with a new coat of 904 white. If you look in the passenger window, you ought to be able to make out a BRE spoiler tucked inside. That will be installed on the rear of the car, as well. I'll update this with some 'after' pictures when I get her back home.

Lower Sealing Rubber?
Thanks Steve; I knew somebody had the answer to this silly little question. I also thought he was looking at the wrong part.

Lower Sealing Rubber?
Hello, It's been a long road, but my Z finally goes to the body shop for some paint and body work on January 28th. Right now I'm trying to put together all of the rubber bits, weatherstripping, etc that I will need when the car comes home, so that I can reassemble the car without having to constantly chase parts. I'm in pretty good shape, I think....I mean I've bought a Precision kit and I also have Nissan OEM door seals and welting. So I'm mostly covered. One of the rubber pieces that I'm not entirely sure about, however, is the one in the attached picture. My Haynes manual calls it a 'lower sealing rubber'. My Nissan parts guy (who is very, very good) tells me that this piece is now a part of a vertical piece that fits onto the quarter window, and tells me that the best price he can give me is $32 and change for each side. So....you can see the reason for my question. Is this rubber piece available anywhere? Is it necessary? What have other people done here? Thanks for your help. Brian

Should we be worried?
Lots of misinformation flying around in this thread....! Ford has not gone bankrupt, at least not yet. And no, you cannot lump all of the American car companies into one and call that 'General Motors'. General Motors is Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, GMC, etc. And no, GM is not bankrupt either.
-
Should we be worried?
I don't see any evidence of that. Where on earth did you get that from? More likely, Ford thinks that someone stands to make some money off of the calendar, they know that the other party hasn't licensed the use of Ford's logo, and Ford really couldn't care less that the 'offender' is an enthusiast's club.

Series 1 on Ebay
I don't see anything that jumps out at me, either. Is it the 'obvious rebuild, no paperwork' statement in the auction listing?

Poor #299: Not for the feint of heart!
I've never seen any production numbers (I don't even know if they exist) but the blue interiors were not popular.

Poor #299: Not for the feint of heart!
That car was probably a knockout when new....blue with a blue interior. It could be restored, but wow. Not a job I'd want to tackle.

Yea I'm new and need serious opinions.
Serious horsepower costs a lot of money. You say that you're saving up for the car. If money is tight, your first course of action should be to go through the car and make it safe and dependable. Later on you'll have plenty of options for adding horsepower. I mean, if my car were spewing black smoke I wouldn't be looking for ways to make it smoke faster and harder....you see what I'm saying? If you go to hybridz.org you'll find plenty of great power enhancement ideas, or example, but as I said, when you're adding that much power you'd better have the means to pay for it. It can get crazy real fast. Good luck and keep us posted.
