I have to say, that thought occurred to me as well.
  2. Was the thread about what cars might have value, or what cars you, personally, would prefer? I'm confused. You solicited opinions, didn't you? And I think that while you are likely right about the 80's being a dead period in terms of automotive classics, you probably weren't buying up old Mopars twenty years ago, in the expecation that they'd be worth a half million dollars, either.
  3. One common thread with cars that become classics....usually, they were cars that a lot of people had and enjoyed (and outgrew), or they were cars which people wanted but couldn't afford at the time (and later decide that they can). For instance, the '57 Chevrolet was popular for a lot of reasons, but one big reason was because they were out in circulation and lots of people had them. Years later, people want to replace the car that they 'should never have sold', and so they buy one in reasonable condition to restore, or buy one that's already been restored. Another good example would be the early 70's Mopar cars. They're hugely popular right now because they had classic lines and a lot of people wanted one or had one at the time. Now they have money and they want one. I think it would be difficult to argue that they are great cars, because they don't handle and they are basically straight-line cars, but I think it's the 'looks great' and 'my brother had one' stuff that appeals to people. The Mini Cooper might be the kind of car that people will outgrow and later wish they'd held onto, now that I'm thinking about this.....

I was watching them (no intention of bidding, just watching). I didn't notice any mention of a reserve on there before....I wonder if he added that to the auction, and maybe it cancels all the bids when you do that?

One good place to see Z's (I see at least one in most every episode) is 'Rockford Files'. It's on the Sleuth Channel, every morning I think.

That does change things some, but your perception of which car would have been faster was likely inaccurate. The 350Z, in any form, is a fast little car. I love my 240 and the handling is superb, but my fuel-injected 2.2 liter (four-cylinder) 510 would have beaten my 240 any day of the week.

Okay. I think that's the funniest remark ever.....

I did the same thing and am happy with the upgrade. If you can find a ZX alternator, though, then Dave's alternator adapter is the hot ticket.

I agree completely. But the fact is that anybody who would steal something and then brag about it on an internet forum is not the type of person who has much in the way of personal mores and values. We're not going to change his mind. In that light, it is worth remembering that there is an 'ignore' feature on this forum. A few of the people who have contributed to this thread have recently made mine.
  10. Guten abend! Wie geht es ihnen! That is one beautiful car, you've done a very nice job with it.

I'm with Stephen....as is, it's pretty ratty...and the amount of work (and expense) that would be required to return it to stock is pretty daunting.

But Stephen, what are those gigantic things hanging off the ends of your car? Bwah ha ha ha ha ha....
  13. Well, there's five minutes of my life that I'll never get back........

    Ugh, no kidding.......
  15. I assumed that he was asking about the one that was for sale. $100 seems like a pretty good deal for that piece, anyway......
  16. It's probably the one in his avatar, gnosez.......

It's a well-done restoration, but my guess is that it's not from the program. Take a look at the steering wheel and the shift knob, and it's obvious that they are pretty well-used. None of the program cars look like that.

How did I not know about the ignore list? Cool.

The inane comment above is not really going to help you get good suggestions. Just saying. If you want to get some help with your problem, you might have to actually get under the car (and possibly even get dirty!) in order to give us the kind of information that we'll need in order to help you. Fire! Squeaking! Squealing! Okay, fine. Where? Have you been under the car to look? Give more info, and you'll get better responses. Get some eyeballs on the problem and put some effort into this, and you might get the help you need to solve your problem, or (wow!) you might actually be able to solve it yourself. On the other hand, if you just want someone to take wild guesses and give bad information, you're better off at zcar.com.

This would be my advice exactly.

I got mine from Lynchburg Nissan a few months back. Let me know if you need part numbers and whatnot.

You can still get door seals from Nissan.

I've always avoided Roadsters because they're expensive to restore. Like a Z isn't...what am I saying?

Looks like there was a redneck dance party held on the roof of that '78....
