Oh yeah? Well my oil is better than your oil. edited it just so I could have the little banner come up like you did. My edit is better than your edit.
  2. @blue Problem is she doesn't die. Never has. Always lets me limp home bucking and lurching. Sitting in the driveway she idles perfectly and will even accelerate, with a slight hiccup, but she runs. Under load has no power. And as I mentioned, yesterday she just started like she wanted to go go go (usually I have to encourage her till she's warmed up). But I mean she was just screaming with lottsa power. When I last shut her off she was as described above. So I have a new coil arriving in a few hours and a fuel pressure gauge coming Sunday (I still can't figure out how Amazon can ship for free and deliver a $30 item on a Sunday). So I'll put in the new coil, install pressure gauge and run her until she has her hissy fit. Two things I did notice when she ran yesterday: one, the coil got very hot to the touch and the dropping resistor got too hot to touch. But again she was running fine. As for tank debris, I was so hoping it was something like that. But after draining the tank dry, into a funnel with a mesh screen, I found zero debris. I refiltered thru a second finer mesh into another gas can and found zero debris. My tank had fresh washer on drain plug, and appears as if it was dropped before I got it. What I didn't do (doh) was check the fitting into the tank from the flex hose which attaches to the solid line. I blew from the fuel filter fitting thru to flex hose disconnected from tank. So I'll go back there if I have to. Sometimes you just forget the obvious. Since I might be back there, I'll pull the sending unit, but first I have to order the gasket, so that will be #3 on the "To try list" BTW I have all new solid fuel lines. @siteunseen Thanks for the compliments, I have put a lot of effort into keeping her straight. I had to special order the cam lube for the points, the parts kid didn't even know what it was. So, yep, cam lube good, and I'll throw a new rotor on, I have spare parts and it's easy. PS here is engine right side Thanks to everyone for keeping with me, all the best, Andy

To expand a little on what SteveJ mentioned about the white bottle... It's a vacuum storage reservoir. It "stores and smooths" the vacuum generated in the intake manifold and that vacuum is pulled out of that reservoir and used to control the HVAC system. There's a check valve on the manifold side of that bottle so all your vacuum doesn't run back out into the manifold when you floor it. The canister thing is your carbon canister. It's an emissions device who's job is to scrub the air/fuel vapors coming out of your gas tank when the engine is off and store the fumes in activated charcoal which is inside the black plastic canister. It stores the vapors in there when the engine is off and then burns them the next time you run the car. The port on top that is capped is supposed to be capped. I've not studied the system in enough detail to tell you why, but they're all like that. The broken line is a vacuum line and the device it's supposed to be connected to is your FICD (Fast Idle Control Device). The purpose of the FICD is to bump the idle up a little when you turn the A/C on. That line only has vacuum in it when the A/C is on, so if you're not running the A/C it doesn't matter if it's connected or not. If you turn the A/C on however, it will cause a small vacuum leak. Welcome to Z ownership. Buy stock in the companies that make rubber tubing.

What kind of nonsense is this Zed Head? I'm not falling for ANY hype and I supplied factual information with links to documentation to other forums and even sites with listings of various oils and there Zinc and Phosphorous contents. Did you even bother to look at those links? Some of them have some ( The VW Vortex thread ) EXTREMELY good technical information in them. None of this is new information...although it does seem to be for you. And then you tell me not to " fill up " ( IE pollute ) your other thread?? WTF?? I wasn't born yesterday ( I'm 61 ) have a lot of useful experience from over 40 years of racing that I have accumulated. I don't mind sharing but don't try and belittle me by trying to cast me as some type of " Fan Boy ". What is wrong with posting with factual information that is used to ASSIST other members? If you want to stick your head in the sand...go right ahead. But don't try and tell me that I can't post just because my opinion and EXPERIENCE differs from yours? That's just being childish and stubborn... Sheesh... Back to technical discussion if other members now wish. Richard
  5. +1 on your great blog jarvo, i went through the whole thing (3 years!!) and picked up some great info. it's cool when folks take the time to share into the collective knowledge pool so duffers like me can learn before ruining things ;} i'm actually switching my 78 to carbs with an f54/p79 rebuild, so this post is timely!
