Short shifter for T-5

Featured Replies

I have a T-5 trans in my '72 240 Z and the darn thing with the shift knob on looks like something out of a "Rat Fink" cartoon. My idea was to take my Dremel and cut it short so it's not so tall. Is there a company that makes short shifters for the T-5 so I don't have to go through as much trouble?

Should be able to find them from Jegs or Summit Racing for Mustangs or Camaro's.... not sure if they would have the right bend in them though to clear in a Z....

Other US'ers in the past have favourably mentioned the B&M Ripper and Hurst shifters. No experience myself.

BTW Dragon, like the front spoiler on your avatar car. I'm designing one similar to that at present for my own Z.

it isnt a true short shifter. all you have really done there is shorten the shifter lever itself and have not shortened the throws.

i must admit i have done the sam in the past and it does give it a better feel, but its not actually doing what a short shifter should or is supposed to do

"True short shifter"

I've seen ads for contraptions that fit on top of the gear box and supposedly make shifting quicker and better. If I remember correctly it was inexpensive and looked like it was external to the tranny. Has anyone had experience with this sort of thing. Does it work? If so, how difficult is it to install?

Thanks,

Bill D.

B&M says the stock number for the T-5 short shifter is "45050"

Is this the right shifter, and does anyone have the same conversion as I do?
