Strange feel to shifter in a series one 240z with a 280Z speed?

The pin has a flat on one side that matches the shoulder on the striking rod guide. This prevents the pin from rotating in the guide, which would otherwise wear both the pin and the guide hole, creating excess clearance and eventually causing rattles and a sloppy shifter.

It looks like the original plastic bushings are long gone. Personally, I would replace them with the original Nissan plastic bushings. The brass bushings will work, but because brass is harder, it can increase wear on the surrounding metal components over time.

Another thing to consider is the condition of the pin and the striking rod guide itself. If they have already worn due to metal-to-metal contact, fitting brass bushings may make any existing clearance more prone to rattles. The original plastic bushings tend to absorb vibration and provide a degree of isolation, making them more forgiving in a worn assembly.

All 3 p/n’s are still available through Nissan.

Thanks for the information, I did order the plastic bushings, new pin and clip. I already have OEM inner and outer boots.

Our local Nissan dealer went away a few years ago, and the closest one is about two hours away, so I have to use the internet for Nissan stuff.

Should be all back together by the end of the week.......
