Seatbelt alternatives for a series 1 240z?

Featured Replies

I am looking for options on what to do with my series 1 240z. i dont want to keep manual seatbelts. I have a set of automatic seatbelts from a 1977 280z i was planning on using but i just realized this 240z does not have the recessed cubby for the large bottom mechanism to be out of the way...

Has anyone figured out how to still used these in a 240z or an aftermarket alternitive?

  • I am thinking about cutting a whole into the side rail to fit the mechanism from the 280z belt system. I'll also need to bolt the top mechanism to the strut pillar somewhere.

IMO just keep what the factory designed. Most members here are 240 owners and would not even consider making that change. There were multiple structural changes made in the latter years. Enjoy what you have friend.

Well i do have the original seat belts but i am restoring the car so they are in one of many boxes of parts. im not keeping the 240 all orginal so im not worried about keeping it as factory. One of my main concerns is structureal issues where i mount all this so thats why i ask. I'll need to see what i can do.

I have the Wesco Roadster Retractable belts installed in my Series 1. The retractor unit is installed at the shoulder belt mount point above the quarter window, easy to operate and very comfortable. I used the OE bolts for the install, no need for a hardware kit. If you decide on these, get the 11" rigid sleeve.

I've also done the Wesco Roadster belts in my early 71 240Z.
