71 fuse box upgrade question

Featured Replies

I have the MSA long pigtail fuse box. Alot of the wires don't match up to my cars wires. Anybody else have this problem. Any help ? Thank you.

What year is your car?  I know there are a few different types of fuse boxes so just making sure you got the correct one.

Please elaborate. What wires do not match up? Are you talking about colors? Are you talking about connectors?

On my female plug, there are 2 blue w red stripe, a red w blue stripe, a green w yellow str., a black w white str. and 1 is empty. On the male fuse box plug there is a green w yellow str., a green, a black w white str., a blue w red str. and 2 are empty. On my male plug there is a red w blue str., a red w blue str. and a green w blue str. going into 1 socket. also a green w red str., a red w yellow str., a red and 1 is empty. On the fuse box female plug there is a red w blue str., a green, a green w white str., a red w green str., a red and 1 is empty. The colors of the stock fuse box didn't match up either. The small single white wire matches up. Do the 2 big white w red str. wires connect to the 2 big white wires on the fuse box ? Fuse box has female bullets and my wires have a male spade. Confusing. Thanks.

Now this I might be able to work with. :)

I have a 70/71 fusebox hiding in my garage somewhere. I'll have to take a look at it and give you my opinion.

Tim - I've installed the same fuse box, here's a couple of observations.

Yes, the large gauge white/red wires connect on both sides.  What looks like a female bullet is actually a splice connector that replaces the large male spade found on the OE box.  Apparently the mfr. cannot get the OE-style terminals.  You have two options: a) cut off the female spade on your harness and use the splice connector to hardwire connect the harness to the new box, or b)  transfer the large male spade terminal from the old box to the new box using a splice connector.  I went with option (b so that my final installation still had OE terminal connectors that could be unplugged if needed.

Hope this makes some sense.
