Here's what you could buy in 1979 at my local Datsun dealership, I think I even test drove that pickup.

That was good deal on the 240 then because a new 1978 280 cost 9 grand and  zx as much as 13 grand in 1979.

The ad was right, there is more future in a Datsun!    As the existence of the site has proven.

It still amazes me how well the prices for used 240's held up throughout the 70's.  For 6 and 7 year old cars the prices in this ad for the '73 and '72 are still quite close to their original MRSP even taking into account the slip in the Canadian dollar in 1979.  I guess part of that was due to the bloat in the price of the new 280ZX's.

 Here in Portland, even in the early days of Zs, A used Z was about the same price as a new one. The plus side of buying a used one was you didn't have to wait for six months to take it home. Paid $3750.00 for my 71 in 73. Not too far off from the new car price.
