I went to change my oil and the filter canister was dented on the bottom

Featured Replies

Just went to change my oil and found the filter canister somewhat dented in at the outboard edges. This was a WIX filter that the shop I had work on my carbs put on because it was dumping fuel into the crankcase. It is smaller than the factory filter but I am not sure that would cause it to collapse!

Any ideas? I am putting a factory filter on with the oil change...

We figured it out... The shop is owned by a friend and he thinks one of his guys got over-zealous with the filter wrench when he put it on. I thought it might have collapsed but that isn't likely...

Well he obviously was clueless for even using a wrench putting it on- good luck getting it off!!

Good grief. That should be only hand tight.

I got it off with a filter wrench and the new one is now hand-tight...
