Numbers..aren't matching?

In NH, if a vehicle is 15 years or older, no title is needed for registration or inspection…but that is irrelevant, in this case, right? Seeing as after registering the car, and having it inspected, a title will be issued.

What I do know is that when undergoing an inspection, they do not (from what I've seen) hunt down all the spots were the VIN should be on the car….But I am just speaking from what I've seen. The case might be different for an older car, I'm not sure, so I can't really say I guess…

I notice that the fender I.D. plate is attached with phillips-head screws...am I wrong in assuming that these were originally attached with rivets?

Early cars for sure were secured with screws in the engine bay. The door jamb had rivets.

How early? Both of my 70 240Zs are secured with rivets in the engine bay and doors

My 76 has screws in the engine bay and rivets for the door jam.

My 1970 240z, with a Jan 1970 production date has screws for the engine bay plate unless a PO took the rivets out but it doesn't look like that happened.

I am pretty sure the the 73 I dismantled last year had screws too. Ncolz, yours might have been re-attached with rivets. No big deal, you can drill them out from behind and find some small sheet metal screws to take the place of the rivets.

Don't worry about it. In NH, they don't check those things and they wouldn't know to look over the brake booster. They will not issue you a title either, you will only have the bill of sale and registration. If you sell it all you have to do is write a bill of sale with the correct vin# above the booster and when they register it, it will be correct (hopefully it's not stolen). Call the DMV in Concord as anonymous, say you are thinking about purchasing this car, give them the vin# in question and have them run it for you.

I think I have a case of too many Z's ...... not that I'd call that a problem. One of my '70s is rivited, the one I checked. The other 70, the 71, and the 74 240 are all screwed.
