speakers in my 240 heeeelp

Featured Replies

can anyone please offer any advice on where is the best place to fit a set of plain old 6 inch round speakers into my car .I dont want them in boxes or in the doors. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks Ranz.

Unfortunately you really limit the possibilities when you say no boxes in addition to not in the doors. There just aren't that many places where a 6" round speaker will fit in the 240.

Even the original factory locations were way in the back behind the plastic panels on the side. You need to get a special bracket for the right hand side speaker but it's just a mirror image of the left one, so it's easy to fabricate.

Some people have replaced the tool compartment lids with speaker mounts, but not sure if a 6" will fit there.

If you were to rethink the boxes, there are 4 welded in nuts on the metal just below the quarter windows. You would have to punch holes through your dog let trims which may not be what you want to do, but those nuts would provide some solid mounts.

Sorry, but can't really give you any ideas.

One place I have seen them, and they looked effective if not original, was in a newly fabricated 'box' that extended from the rear trim behind the tail lights. It extended into the cabin only a little bit further than the original trim and gave reasonable sound as they point straight down the cabin....

Just a though.

i built one of them boxes that DOHC was talking about...ive got two 6x9's in that. i also put two more 6x9's in their own individual boxes behind the seats....take a lookeey

Thats exactly the rear box I was talking about. Thanks for the pix Grantman, I think it would have been hard to keep explaining without them :classic:

Cheers,

Here's how I mounted mine:

Don't look too hard at the rest of the site. I did it in a two days to pass a tech assignment.:cheeky:

you put a 4-cylinder engine in your Z **GASP** :stupid: :dead: :finger:   and every other face i could possibly make. you poor Z...its been demoted and embarassed. :disappoin

The fj20 is smaller, lighter, more efficient, more powerful and prettier than an L26.

Just thinking that engine would look just about right in the engine bay of a 1600 Roadster. Hmmmmmmm.

And I know where I could get the roadster....... So many choices...:tapemouth
