Ok so I bought a pair of Round top SU carbeurators from my brother, dispite the fact that I have to rebuild them I want my Z to look good inside and out when I am done. But on top of the right carbeurator when it starts going into a point so that you can pour oil in there is a fairly sized chip out of the carbeurator, looks like some one hit it with a air chizle. I was wondering is there a exisisting filler so I can smooth it out? I plan on maybe painting them or chrome dip them. Thx all thoughts are appreciated. Ian::

As for painting, I used High Heat Engine Enamel on my SUs and they came out nice. They have several types of finishes. So if you wanted chrome or if you just want to clean them up, you could do them in silver. The silver is close to the original color, but just a little brighter. That's the route I went.

As for a filler...eeeeeewwww. Don't know there. Maybe some of that liquid metal stuff they sell at Autozone and Advanced Auto parts. I would think the rough spot there would be getting it smooth.

The SU tops are aluminum so, couldnt the chip be repaired via welding?

then polished to a high shine? unless of course your going for a "color"

It is a BA chip, yes I plan to paint my engine bay the original blue along with my block.

id take it to some place that had a tig and have them fill it in and like mentioned above grind it down and polish it!! that would look way better than any paint!!!

Repairing the chip sounds like a lot of work! If the chip is in the threaded portion of the neck, where the cap screws in, you'll also have to replicate the threads as well! Why not get another dome and piston assembly to replace the chipped one. Note: As I recall the piston and dome are a matched set and should not be mixed with like parts, due to their specific tolerances.

Is it going to cost a pretty penny?

How about posting a picture of the damage...

POR15 sells a manifold repair kit that could be used as does Eastwood, a good Heliarch(TIG) welder could probably close it up, and allow you to finish it to match.

Be careful when polishing the SU-tops, they are heat sensitive. I made that experiance when I polished mine to a chrome-similar look. When I fitted them they were inside no longer totally round and I had a lot of problems afterwards to make all fit fine.
