What color is the lower engine cover on the early Z's? The one I have was undercoated! It has red on it but may be from overspray. Are they black or body-colored?

What "lower engine cover"? Do you mean oil pan? Satin black with engine blue overspray. Do you mean timing chain cover? Natural aluminum with engine blue overspray.

Can you be more specific? are you talking about the front timing cover? perhaps a photo would clarify too.

I suspect he's talking about the underbody splash pan that most of our cars are missing. If so, I believe they were black, probably a satin finish.

I have never heard it called anything except lower engine cover. It is in fact the splash pan. I will paint it black just like I did my fuel tank.

Too true. But if Loren had searched for 'lower engine cover color' (and he may have), that thread would not have appeared. (I know, I tested it.) Which illustrates the limitations of the search feature - it's only as good as your search parameters.

Every one I have ever seen here in the US and Canada, when the cars were new, or ordered over the Parts Counters were silver.

Are these Splash Pan available from anyone anymore.....in reasonable condition? I looked on Courtesy Nissan's site and they indicated they are no longer available new. Can you guys point me in the right direction?

I picked my 240Z splash pan from my painter. He had a '73 that he is putting an Infinity V/8 in. He was ready to discard this splash pan until I bought a 280Z one. I took it to him for painting and he said I had the wrong pan. He had the correct one. I guess I was lucky!
