So a friend visited the Kinokuniya Bookstore in San Francisco's Japantown over Thanksgiving weekend, spotted this mag and was nice enough to grab an extra copy for me. Apparently there was a whole stack of them, so for the rest of you near there run don't walk... it's that good... :)

AutoWorks Special Issue #73

Originally published Dec 15 2004

Japanese price is 1500yen and they are selling it at the bookstore for $20

pic 1 is the cover

pic 2 is the engine shot on a Gnose making reputedly 338hp.

(Check out the triple coils!)

pic 3 is the engine bay of a Z running individual coil packs for each cylinder

pic 4 is of a burgundy Gnose I've seen before and am head over heels for.

(Shows the owner welding in his crazy cage)

pic 5 is the before shot of some serious headwork

pic 6 is the after shot... wow...

Anyways, go out and get the AutoWorks "L Series Tuning Manual".

4th picture.....that dude is MIG welding with shades on and no gloves.....he is my hero. To bad he could not see how to drive after completion of the car. Does look like a good magazine to pick up though.

Cool magazine but I thought I was first to do this in a Z....crap, second again. I got the idea from Tube280Z.

Hey Thanks for that info Eric. I would love to know the compression ratio on this engine after the extensive head work. Looks awesome.

LOL! Professional Japanese magazine gets the image reversed? Take a look at the bottom right picture in the second scan. Spark plugs on the left and intake on the right - on an L28 engine? ROFL
LOL Good catch. My guess is they did it for a reason, although I can't imagine why.

The mechanic who fixes our company vehicles is into Z's and picked me up a copy of this magazine. Unbelievable!!! I haven't enjoyed a magazine with this much photographic detail since my first Playboy....but in a different way. Snag a copy if you can.

Lot's of nice sharp edges in last picture of cylinderhead to aid detonation. Looks pretty now, but not later when hotspots burn piston top.

I got to flip through a copy of this at the Laguna Seca historics, I still need a copy, hehe. Wow.

I think you'll find that the picture shows a combustion chamber that is not yet finished.......

Alan, I can't read Japanese. I can tell (and did) that head was not ready to use though.
