Car vibrates

Featured Replies

I have a 1971 240z. When I accelerate to 60 mph my car starts to vibrate the faster I go the more it vibrates. Has anyone every had this problem, if so, what did you do..

Balance the tires/wheels

Rebuild suspension (ball joints, inner & outer tierod ends, wheel bearings)

I have new ball joints, wheel bearings, tierods ends and stuts.

Sounds like Carl hit it on the head. Re-balance wheels. Weight fell off my car once, shook like a washing machine on spin cycle! :)

I have new ball joints, wheel bearings, tierods ends and stuts.

Then I would first check for a Tire/Wheel imbalance.

Could also be a rotted steering coupler. was that replaced or inspected for damage? 30 yr old rubber deteriorates.

Did you have Nissan OEM suspension parts installed? If not, you wouldn't be the first one to discover that "some" aftermarket suspension parts (tierods, ball joints, etc) are not worth the powder it would take to blow them to hell and back.

u-joint!

coud be, but usually u-joints act up before you reach 60 mph. Still, worth checking out.

Need more info. Did this start all of a sudden , or after some work or new tires? have you had the front tires off for any reason .? A couple of things to check. Jack up the front of the car and spin the tires and watch for out of round , or a flat spot. Have you had to stop quickly locking up the tires ? While off the ground , grasp the tire front and rear and try to wiggle the tire from side to side looking for any play , do the same grasping from top to bottom . I know you said all is new but check any way. Again while off the ground loosen the lugg nuts untill the wheel is loose then re tighten while off the ground . Is there play in the steering , worn or loose any thing ?

My vote is wheel balance. Take it to a tire store for a proper balance.

Do not take it to Wal-mart! Those Mickey-Mouse mechanics couldn't find the underside of a car if it ran them over.

I had a similar experience and it turned out that the steel belts had shifted inside the tire ,which had plenty of tread.
