Did a search and found some have used the SEM white. I'm about to redo my nieghbor's "Butterscoth" color interior, and need to dye / paint new interior panels and refresh the color of the tranny soft vinyl. Neither SEM or Colorbond make a color that is close. I plan to contact Colorbond & SEM about the cost for a custom color match. However, I found this manufacturer that will match colors. http://www.parasolinc.com/Products.asp?ProductID=VARIKOTE Price isn't bad at $99/quart. That would easily do all the interior panels and have a pint to spare for matching dis-colored soft vinyl and have left over for touch-ups. They also will do custom aerosol cans. Anyon…

So I removed the dashboard and sadly the "tube" connecting to the driver side vent tore. It is made of what seems like woven something wrapped around a wire frame and whatever composes the tube is now hard, don't know if it always was or not? Anyhow a whole section torn apart the wire frame is still holding it. It seems like it COULD be fixed? Any ideas about what to use to fix this? I was thinking of simply using duct-tape or something similar, my fear with duct tape is one it might smell, especially with air rushing past it in that vent and also when I use the heater it may smell worse and even melt the adhesive on it. I was thinking using some type of air-tight woven h…

71 240z dry un-cracked dash... last cleaned in 96. What should I hit it with to clean and refresh?

Bagged it air tight. The jan 71 240z has the hatch vents so I decided to refresh them and make it air tight. I used vapor barrier and tyvek tape. It finished nicely right up to the hatch seals. I'll post tons of tech tips and photos over the next two weeks.

Hi there, I am in the process of finally reassembling my car and am almost ready to put the heater controls etc. in before the dash and have run into a snag. On the left side of the heater box, where the cables attach, I am not sure how to run a cable. It controls the big flap in the center and I don't know if I am missing a part or what is going on. If I just hook up the cable, I can't get the arm to pivot and close/open the flap. I have enclosed a picture and if someone has a picture or advice that would be great. carl

Greetings, I need to replace the shoulder belt on my 1972. I should say that its nominally a 1972, but has, to the best of my knowledge, some 1971 equipment (vertical rear defroster, for example) and fixed, not retractable seat belts. I found an earlier thread on seat belts, and am interested in the following: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?40364-which-seat-belts-are-better&p=348736&viewfull=1#post348736 But ... what I am not sure about is exactly how much work it would require. The retractable belt equipped Z's have a small well in the floor / side wall, don't they? I don't, just a mounting plate. If boyracer88 is reading this, could you te…

I need a few photos showing the relationship of the spare tire cover, tire well and cargo floor. Suggested shots are 1) cover in place, 2) well without cover but with spare tire in place, 3) tire well without tire. What does the cover rest on, damping pads, well rim? How far does the spare sit below the well rim? Please email the photos to dmwolon@comcast.net. Thanks for your help. Fixitman

I've searched around here, but have not found a good answer. I'm looking for a strut for the hatch on the 240z, is there any other struts out there that I could find like at a junkyard that would work with little modification? I thought we could use this thread to make a list of alternative resources that offer the parts we need for half the cost of repros. So far I have found that: -Kia Sportage (9?-00) door seals are a perfect match for the 240z door seals. -Acura Integra (93-00) hatch seals will work for the 240z hatch. Chase

I have my dash out of the car. I thought I'd take my gauges apart and try to clean the clear plastic guage covers. they had paint on them. alot of paint! they had minor scratches also. I tried "goof off" on a paper towel and it worked great. no damage to plastic. I also bought Meguiars plastx kit. it comes with buffer you put in your drill and microfiber cloth. works great also. I have like new guage covers. 71 Z. thanks, TimsZ
