Hello All: My father and I have own several Z's over the years, but we've had this 77 280Z for quite a while now. I've collecting some parts to lately to do a "intake clean up" project. I found a non-egr intake manifold and purchased a PALNET fuel rail. New injectors, o-rings, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, pvc valve, fuel hose and vacuum hose. We just completed all of the work and at initial start up the car was running fine. Fuel Pressure was a little low but seemed to idle fine and rev smooth. We took the car for a fine and about 2 miles down the road things went way down hill. Any throttle caused the power to break up horribly. Car would idle ok (fuel pressure …

I have a 1978 280z 5 speed. It has the AFM on it, that has an air bypass screw on both sides of the AFM. Can someone tell me more about them, when to adjust them, when to leave them alone etc? I searched the forums and didnt really find what I was looking for. For one thing....turn CW will richen the mixture and turning CCW lean it out, is that right? What is the way to adjust the CO readings on the car (assume a normal running engine)? Do you just need to adjust the AFM screw(s), or do you also have to adjust the air bypass screw(s) too? Lastly, does the idle adjustment spring and the AFM air bypass screws work in conjunction with each other? I dont understand yet how a…

How does one do that? Is it possible to open it up and clean the filter on the bottom?

Recently bought a Z and am sorting out the issues. It runs albeit on the 3 rear cyclinders. New fuel pump, new NGK wires and plugs, distributor looks like it was replaced not long ago. Coil looks original (new MSD blaster in the mail). I know it's getting fuel, spark and air. I know all 6 injectors are functional. Just not all at the same time. When I crank it, it starts almost instantly, when I place my screw driver to each injector, only the rear bank makes the clicking. Removing any of the front 3 injector pig tails doesn't affect idle. When i place the rear 3 injector connections on the front 3, once again it starts and idles the same. Is…

First of all if this posts twice, sorry. I have recently purchased a 76 280Z and apparently have a fuel delivery issue. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. The car is driven about 6-10 miles daily and a weekly trip of 20-30 miles. The car has been breaking down about once every two weeks while driving the car spits a few times and eventually stops. I suspected that I might have a whole in the pick up line in the gas tank. I decided to top off the gas every couple days and would typically add about 1 gallon of gas. The car ran about 2 months without breaking down. I thought that I had solved the issue and would begin looking at fixing the pick up line. A …

So... About the EGR system. What's the theory behind the Backpressure Transducer (BPT) Valve? I know what it does... It disables the EGR system if the exhaust backpressure is too low. Question is "Why?" What would be wrong with having the EGR enabled even when the exhaust backpressure is low? Seems to me that it would simply recirculate less gas under low exhaust pressure conditions. Is there really a need to disable it completely under those conditions?

The original Bosch fuel pump check valve is NLA and I've been messing around with alternatives. The original check valve has a 10mm x 1.0 threaded inlet and a barbed outlet to accept an 8mm hose. Can't get it anymore... There are other Bosch check valves available with a 10mm x 1.0 threaded inlet, but the outlet styles are different. Not a problem! Here's the first alternative I've worked through. This one uses a 14mm thread taper seat style outlet. Bosch part number 1 587 010 539 Here's a pic of the stock check valve on top and the 539 on the bottom. Note that the pump end threaded portion of the alternate is longer than the original valve. It is so long, in fact, tha…

So I have three FI ECU's. All of them are A11-600-000 but different lots. How do I know if they are the same or if they are for different model (year) 280's? Pics of the two that are out of the car at the moment. Logic board says A12-001 003 6cyl This one is from Lot 6825 This one is C12-001 004 N This one is from Lot 7Z07 Does anyone have experience modding these boards or even identifying them? Thanks for any help! Sent from my iPizzle ringy dingy device....

Just a quick question for you FI gurus. I've got a few issues with the FI on my '78 280z (manual). She chugs a bit starting up when it's over 70 degrees F, then settles into a high idle, then comes down to what I believe is about 750 RPM, but this can take a while. She runs pretty well after being warmed up, no sputtering or front/back fires, but runs very rich. The exhaust is always very fumy and the fumes get into the car with the right type of breeze. But before I go about testing different FI bits, I was wondering, since my tach currently doesn't work, does the TPS (or ECU) count on a tach signal for its operation? I'm hoping that getting my tach working or replaced…

I've been steadly working on a 77 280z that I purchased over the winter. Just replaced the injectors and she is running quite well. I went ahead and installed a inline fuel pressure gauge and am only getting 26 psi. When I shut it off she holds pressure for a few hours but eventually drops off to zero, also, no problem starting up after its sits with zero pressure. I installed a Fram G3 filter before the pump and it is clean. I was going to clean the filter in the fuel pump but it's not OEM. It looks like the one that Black Dragon sells. Any suggestions as to what else could cause low FP. Thanks

The hose on the first fuel injector has cracked open. How exactly do I go about replacing it? Do I have to replace the whole injector or can I just put a new hose on? Is it possible to loosen up the fuel rail enough to lift it up to get the hose in place or will I have to pull the whole rail off to do it? If I can just replace the hose what type of hose exactly is needed and what size and diameter is it? Thank you!
