As those of you who subscribe to the listserver might know, I had a scary time last Saturday in my 240Z. The bolts holding the right front strut to the transverse link and steering knuckle backed out and the strut came free. Fortunately, this happened at low speed and I only destroyed the right fender and tore a brake line. However, the last third of the two bolt holes in the bottom of the strut assembly got stripped when the bolts pulled free. I thoiught about having 12 x 1.25 helicoils inserted, but a mechanic suggested another route that I'd like to run past you guys. He suggested that I drill out the threads entirely and go with a longer bolt and nut setup instead.…

Hey guys, New to the board and to Z cars. My future father in law and I just bought a 72 240Z to bring it back to life. Is there a good source for replacement floor pans or do you have to make them? Any information would be great. I must say that this looks like a nice message board with tons of info/data. Well, got to go start the tear down! Thomas

Hey guys, We are looking into buying a coil over kit for a 72240.I've done some searching and research on the Tokiko HP SERIES SUSPENSION KIT found at this link. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/performance/brand.php?makeid=19&modelid=198&year=1972&partid=283 The car will be driven a couple times a week in the summer... some autoX...and some track days. Is this a decent kit and is the price fair? I have a lot of friends that use Tokico on their Mustang Cobras and they are very happy with them. Any info would be a great help. Thomas

Hey everyone, it seems as though the rear end of Z cars just love to talk to us in many ways, and mine has started with a new noise. It sounds like a faint muffled pop coming from behind the drivers seat, but it isn't very loud. It occurs seemingly randomly while driving on semi bumpy roads, which makes me think it's a drivetrain problem as well. The only way I can recreate the noise is if I lift up on the rear bumper, raising the car slightly, and then pushing down, the pop noise occurs as soon as the motion begins downward. HOWEVER, if I bounce the car up and down, there is no sound. I'm not sure if it's a gland nut, I made sure it was tight. Could it be a U-joint or a…

I know this might be the way most guys like their women, but my car just doesn't appear to be sitting right. The front end seems to sit pretty high while the back end sits pretty low. What should I look for? Also, I will try and post a picture or 2 it that helps. Bill

Hi all, I got a set of steel brakelines together with the '72 Z when I bought her. One pair is about an inch longer than the other pair and even the shorter pair is longer than the original brakelines. Which one is for the front ? Rolf

I had a long discussion with many members of the forum about the shocks and the springs, I would go definately for KYB's for the smooth ride, and about the springs, after a long search and reading about them, I found out that Eibach's progressive springs are made only for 240Z, while I need a set for my 1977 280Z! so the conclusion is that I'll go for ST (suspension Techniques) springs at the end.. I noticed the difference in prices (from 400 to 260), would that be considered as they were "cheap" springs? and if anybody has them on a 280Z with KYB's plz can I know how much the car is lowered and weather the ride is smooth or stiff (bouncing on rough roads)? coz I'll nee…

People: I'm taking out the steering rack to either replace or just clean up myself. How do you get the lower joint off of the pinion? I have removed the bolt completely from the lower joint and the it has been disconnected from the steering coupler. I've tried to pull it out, kinda hard to get leverage on it from under the car, but I can't separate them. Any thoughts??? 78 280Z
