  4. Okeley Dokely then... the Rear tail light or indicator appears to have a faired-in nacelle which does not appear on the 2000. Take a close look at Alan's pics earlier in the thread and you'll see a navy-blue tail-end infront of the white ragtop which has the same feature. Maybe Alan was racing against a 2300GT without knowing it..

  6. $25 grand and they couldn't scratch up a set of original wheel trims...

Sounds like the very questionable 'facts' being pedalled by Mr. Heston and the US gun lobby. True there has been a massive effort to buy back high powered and automatic weapons by the govt in Australia but there has to my knowledge been no corresponding surge in crime. However, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the sort of people who commit firearm-related offences are (a) unlikely to voluntarily hand in their illegal weapons and ( have the underworld contacts to easily obtain more. I imagine this is true the world over...

No, but plans have been drawn up...
  9. While I was searching for my Z I must have spoken to over a dozen sellers who advertised using the term "original" or "all original" (and many more who didn't). My first three questions to these people always eliminated 99% or the cars advertised. The questions are: 1. Does the car have its original engine and transmission? 2. Is the car still painted in its original factory colour? 3. Does the car have its original interior fittings (seat covers, radio, vinyl trim)? Most often, the 'original 240z' would turn out to have been repainted in a non-original colour, have an L28 engine fitted and have been retrimmed in a non-original matrial/colour in the cabin. Someone advertising a car as "all original" really should be able to answer my 3 questions with a yes. However, a buyer should also ask these three questions no matter how the car is advertised...if originality is important to them, that is. (PS, I eventually compromised on the interior trim...my car has non-orig seat covers and radio...both about to be changed!)

Well everyone, I've just ordered my new covers from Classic Datsun and hope to have them here in a month or two. apparently the Tan (Butterscotch) colour has to be made specially...they're obviously not as common as black. The way the Aussie Dollar is performing against the Greenback at the moment, the deal is getting cheaper every day!

Well I wouldn't expect them to get thicker What about the L28 in a 280Z... are its liners thinner than in a 240Z?
  12. halz replied to Fun_in_my_z's topic in Engine & Drivetrain
It does! I think you could overbore an L24 to fit L28 pistons. Only the later L28 blocks had the extra webbing in the casting and I think that was the cope with the loads of a turbo engine..(?)
  13. halz replied to Fun_in_my_z's topic in Engine & Drivetrain
In fact the L24, L26 and L28 blocks are all the "same" (minor differences externally). the extra displacement comes from increasing the stroke (L24 to L26) and increasing the bore (L26 to L28).
  14. Have a look here: http://geocities.com/zgarage2001/p90.html This site is full of good tips on a performance L28 rebuild.
  15. No they're not, they're Rotaries. A two stroke has a reciprocating piston that fires once every revolution of the crank (or once for every two strokes). A Rotary engine has a roughly triangular rotor which spins eccentrically in an epitrochoid (roughly a figure eight) chamber. There are three power 'strokes' for every revolution of the rotor but the output shaft turns three times also so... maybe it should be called a "one-stroke-engine" http://auto.howstuffworks.com/rotary-engine4.htm The rotary is only similar to the two stroke in that its 'piston-to-wall' lubrication system involves oil injection into the fuel system...and even there are differences there too.
  16. 300hp is pretty good from 1300cc :devious:
  17. Funny story: As part of the "Domestic Approval Process" before buying the 240, I took my wife along to the W.A.Z day last August. It was the first time she had seen a Zed close up and she liked them. (yay, things looking ok for a new Zed)...Then she turned around and saw the roadsters...she really liked those Apparently I would have no problem getting a roadster at any time in the future...<sigh!>
  18. There are a few around... might get one as the Z-replacement some time down the track.

Hmmm, sunday? sunday? That would be BBQ no.2 for the weekend starting at 1pm and involving copious quantities of prawns, squid and Little Creatures Pale Ale! Alas, I'll have to wait for the Feb meeting to put in an appearance...should have my new radiator in by then too... How was the meeting, any new cars turn up?
