  1. Sid. I sent you a PM
  2. I use a guy in Pomona that Stephan Blake referered me to. $5500 is way to high. I got my entire motor redone, including installing a head job and a new clutch for $3600. I work in Newport, I see you live in Newport. I can bring my car to work one day to let you see what kind of work he does.

No I didn't get it from ebay. And I don't think there is any fraud being perpetrated by esprist Chris. I had checked with my local dealer and he also told me that they were NLA. I got a fair deal on it. Remember, its worth what you want to pay for it. I would have liked to spend only $21.63. Its only plastic. I was bidding on an ashtray last week (I dropped mine in the garage), and got out at $165. Crazy prices on some parts, that's for sure. How about $425 for an AM radio? Thanks for the info Dan. That helps alot. This goes with the splash pan that was not on my car when I got it. Now the hunt continues for original battery cables.

I picked up this little goodie today. As you can see it has the Nissan part numbers on the bags. Anyone have any ideas as to whether this was original equipment on a 71? My thoiughts are that it might be a JDM part. I haven't seen any talk about a part like this.
  5. I checked mine out last night Arne. Nikki 1201. On an unmolested 2/71.

Hard to do with it still in the car. I found a small crack in mine but on the back side adjacent to the tank Only found it by pulling it out. Also found that the tube coming out of it was cracked, so while I was at it I replaced all of the evaporative tank hoses, as they were 36 years old too...In order to check those you will need to pull the right rear interior panel as Gary said. Expensive job. I think I paid close to $200 for the filler hose.
  7. Arne, when I get home I'll check mine for you.
  8. Dan, Ron and Mike. Thanks so much. I understand the process now. I'll order the part from Banzai. Great picture Ron. I think I can make the pick. Plenty of coat hangers around!
  9. Hi All. I have a grommet that is disintegrating on the firewall. I have attached a picture of someone else's firewall. The grommet in question is directly to the left of the hood catch.. The grommet is about 3 inches above the water inlet (or outlet) hose. What is this for? Is it for the windshield wipers? The wires coming out are enclosed in a black plastic tube that has a semi large connector on it. If I find a replacement grommet, how do I get the wires through? Do I remove the cowl? Can the wires hidden under the cowl be threaded through this grommet somehow? Do I have to cut the wires and then splice them back together? Seems like Banzai has a reproduction if this is indeed the item. However I looked on their website and it doesn't seem to be quite the same. Thanks.
  10. Chris, thanks for the heads up on Towerpaint. $31 a pint for enamel custom mixed to 919 yellow. That should shoot in the little sprayer. I'll mix some hardener in there as well. Had to get out of California to get something other than waterbased paint.
  11. Thanks guys. I just called an auto paint house here in Costa Mesa where I work. They say that now they can only mix water base paint in California and that it is too thick to use one of the smaller paint sprayers. Are other states like this as well? Maybe I could order some from Arizona or another state?
  12. I had taped up the outline of my upper hood release so that after I took it off I could put it right back in the exact same place. When I reinstalled the mechanisim, I then went to pull of the tape. Well, it also pulled off the paint under the tape. Bummed. So I found an outfit on the internet, Automotivetouchup.com that said it will custom mix a can of spray paint for me. However, I asked for single stage paint. The fellow there responded that he can only mix "basecoat." What is the difference? Will it appear different on the underside of the hood next to the original paint? Thanks. I know I will have to prep the area, primer, sand and then rub out the paint if it works.
  13. I know Esprist personally. He has no axe to grind. He was just attempting to impart knowledge to other club members so that they are aware of the current business situation at PierreZ. Postings here sometimes get misinterpreted due to the medium.
  14. These are not my pictures, they were sent to me so I appologize in advance for not giving credit where credit is due. In case anyone is interested, this is how the aftermarket setup looks installed.
  15. That makes awhole lot of sense Ron. I guess I went off on a tangent there.:stupid:
  16. That's interesting. My 71 now has a BRE setup. It looks completely different than the bars above.
  17. Mike. You are correct in that the finisher is permanently attached to the muffler. I have the original muffler still on my car. The tailpipe finisher is welded to the muffler. It must have been welded on at the factory. It is not removeable.
  18. Bonzi Lon: Here's the link for my other splash pan thread where it talks of the correct color http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31160&highlight=splash+pan
  19. My dealer of choice, McConnell Nissan in Costa Mesa charged me 86 cents a piece. He has to order them but the bolts will be here on Friday, Have to buy a bag of ten. As to color of the splash pan, I asked that question here about two months ago in a different thread. Seems the consensus was either gray/silver or gloss black.
  20. You are the winner Bob. My Nissan dealer told me that is the part number for the bolts. Thanks much for your help. I ordered a bag of ten.
  21. Reddat is the seller Brandon. I have bought other things from him in the past. His shipping is high as are some, if not all of his parts. But I did get fast shipping from him.
  22. I bought mine from Les at ClassicDatsun.com. It was about $29 a can, but mixed to exact Nissan paint code. Engine came out beautiful.
  23. I am getting ready to remove the fuel rail fromm my 71 to replate it. I notice that there are two plastic sleaves that the fuel line passes through. Has anybody any ideas on how to remove these little guys without destroying the fuel rail? Thanks.
  24. I have found this description of splash pan screws on ebay. And a picture as well. It looks like these are standard Nissan parts, but I can't locate the part number to order these from the dealer. Anyone have an idea? Thanks. Datsun 240z Lower Splash Pan Bolts/ Washers - NOS
  25. John. I looked at my old picture that I took when I pulled the horns and tried to get an color accurate photo last evening. The dark olive drab comes out black in the picture so it does no good to post it, sorry. The color is similar or identical to the dust cover on my front axel.
