  1. I can't believe anyone would be concerned about the "flying sticks". They are nothing more than insects flying through the camera frame.Thats why they always have those scalloped sides,it just the wing movement caught on film. Thats also why you will never see any caught on real high speed camera's. :stupid:
  2. Woohooo! Got back to back scores of 720 and 765.4 on the bloody penguins!!
  3. Well, from whatI have heard. The intake valve is larger because the vacuum that draws the air in is weaker than the preasure pushing the exhaust out. Therefore the intake valve need to be larger so as not to impede the air flow going in. -Dale-
  4. I dunno, Looks like it has more than 59k on it to me! Look at the engine bay inner fender color on the drivers side. Looks like a different color and is very dirty! My car has 37K and the inner fenders have no more than a fine layer of dust on them. also it has round top carbs and a blue air cleaner. Hmm.....
  5. I totally agree! All of my crazy driving days were in a 240Z that was well cared for and it was a big factor in how far I would go. I certainly wouldn't even dream of driving that way in my '64 Galaxie! :paranoid:
  6. When I was young I got caught doing 105mph in a 45mph zone. I knew "I" was at fault and I simply pulled over before the officer could even turn on his lights! I got off lightly with 50+++(actually written on the citation) in a 45 zone. Cost me $20 and a few drops of sweat to be sure.By the way it was done @1:30am on a deserted main street in AZ. I would never attempt that in traffic! Still stupid though. Anyone who can't take responsibility for thier own driving habits should not be allowed to drive in my opinion.::stupid:
  7. Allright, Try this one........ 1991 John Candy Movie: Delirious In this movie John Candy's character wins a Ferrari in an auction, but it really a 240z ferrari GTO conversion! They even show it being driven! Anybody else remember that?
  8. I need someone with a good running stock carb setup from a '73 to give me a hand. My idle limiter cap was removed when the previous owner had the carbs maladjusted. Could someone please tell me how many turns from seated it should be? I want to tune the carbs but There is no mention in the service manual as to where it should be set when someone has messed with it. -Dale-
  9. Hi! My name is Dale. I am 37 and the Stepfather to three kids (All out of the house now) I own a retail plastic model shop in Santa Rosa, CA . I am on my third '73 240z if you count the one I learned to drive on. Just got this green one in Dec. I know most everyone thinks the '73 carbs are junk, but I have had no problem with mine and even whipped a few local Z's with my last stock '73. I am thinking of getting another 240Z for my daughter. Currently trying to keep my '64 Ford Galaxie from spewing oil all over the ground. -Dale-
  10. I have an original uncracked dash in my Z and would like to know how to keep it that way. Any suggestions? I am currently using Armorall since it has a UV blocker.will my dash still crack in time?
  11. Well, I live on Mission Blvd. in Rincon Valley, Santa Rosa. I just picked up my '73 240 in Dec. Sure feels great to be back in a real car again! I own a hobby shop at 642 Fifth St Santa Rosa "The Plastic Surgeon" I'm here 10-7 mon-fri and 10-6 sat. Dale
  12. Hey! Thats where I live! -Dale-
  13. Thats right! After more research it comes to this. The antenna switch is located on the radio face plate. The fuse fuse panel light are : Defrost switch, Fasten Seat Belt Warning light, and choke light. Thanks guys for the help! -Dale- Ps. I don't smoke, but I wanted to see if my cigarette light worked. I pushed it in and expected to wait for a minute or so for it to pop. Instead it blew clean out of the dash in a red hot streak and landed on the floor at the base of my seat! Doh! After a quick scramble out of the car to find it( I was not stupid enough to try to search for it with my hand). I found that it luckily had not burned anything! Whew! Now I know why I don't smoke!
  14. Your right! I also notice that the side mirror is not like any stock mirrir I've seen. I really doubt that this car is as advertised. Heck, My '73 is much more original than this car! Check it out! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=600153873&r=0&t=0 -Dale-
  15. I saw that too! It also has an after market steering wheel, after market shifter. The front valance is beat up. The bumper overriders are missing .and I also noted the 280 hood. Do you think it had front end damage at one time? I really can't see anyone paying 25K for one of those and then changing parts on it. I also noted that the seller has no rating under that name. I'll pass on that one! -Dale-
  16. My first Z did something like that. I had a bone stock '73 and sometimes when I would shut off the engine it would sputter then free spin backwards! If you had it in 1st gear and let the clutch out while this was happening it would lurch backwards! Very unsettling! I was led to believe that this could be caused by carbon deposits on the tops of the pistons igniting unburnt fuel after shutdown. Anyone else experience this? That particular Z had Over 200k miles on it and had never been apart. My current '73 has only 30k miles on it and it stops running the second the key is off. -Dale-
  17. Definitely a Voltage Reg. Problem or associated wiring! I just went through the same thing when my VR went belly up. One word of caution. Do NOt disconnect the battery to prevent overcharging it if you need to drive some where! It will blow your dome lamp, Hand brake light, and heater control panel lights when the Amps spike. Actually I later found out that the Hand Brake light and heater control lights did not blow out. Seems that they have a socket with a ground tab on them. When the Amps spiked the Ground tab heated up and bent ever so slightly away from the ground connection and saved the bulbs! This can be remedied by simply rebending the ground tab back into position and putting the socket back in place. Good luck!
  18. Hmmmm, Well, I'd have to go with burnt Orange. To me it looks great on an early Z.My first Z was the stock lime yellow. You could park it next to one of thse green/ yellow fire trucks and it would dissappear! It took a while but I liked that color too.
  19. My orginal voltage regulator decided it wanted to boil the battery. Doh! I have a solid state model in the car right now, but my car is original enough that I would like to have the original Voltage Reg. in the car if at all possible. Does anyone rebuild these things? IT looks like it would be a rather simple job for someone with elecrical know how, which I do not have. -Dale-
  20. Where is the antenna switch normally located? In my ,73 it is in the middle position on the fuse cover. I thought there was a seatbelt light there on my last car. Where is yours? -Dale-
  21. I have a '73 240Z that I picked up a little over a week ago. While driving at night I noticed a burning smell coming from the car and my tail lights went out. upon further inspection of the fuse I found that the the inside terminal for the PArking/tail lights had melted a hole in the base and cover of the fuse box! Doh! that terminal is now basically free floating. The fuse was cracked and had a white powdery look to it. Also it was broken in half. I replaced the fuse and every thing worked until I had to use the lights again yesterday for a 20 min trip. Same thing started to happen but I got to it before the fuse disintegrated. I'm thinking that somehow that terminal is grounding out right there since it is not blowing the fuse but baking it instead. Could a short somewhere else cause it to heat up at the fuse box, or is that gonna be the source of the trouble? Any ideas would be most appreciated! -Dale-
  22. Mike, Still can't attatch a file for some reason. When I go to preview it just gone and acts as if I didn't even try to attach it. Any ideas?
  23. Well, That would make sense. I have only had '73 240z's and they all had electric fuel pumps on them even though it is not mentioned in the Haynes manual until the 260Z. thanks for the heads up! : ) -Dale-
  24. Doh! Why doesn't my picture show up?!!
