  1. removal is easy, fitting is not overly hard, just frustrating (you get two of the rails in and every time you go to put the last one in the other two fall out!).

hmm, never heard of Alcantra, can you post any links? I have had all my interior (except the dash) done in tan vinal and the seats done in tan leather + new custom made floor and boot carpets.

upgrading the actual pads can also yield significantly better breaking
  4. Is this the rubbery / plastic material spread over the inside floor and console pannels? If so I don't think there is any paint under them, something to consider and my ones didn't take much heat to lift them off. Are you worried about damiging the under seal or surrounding paint?
  5. Talk it up (I was wondering how long this topic would take to start). I suppose we got the Bledisloe Cup though, so that's some consolation. You guys did do well that game I must admit.

There's still time for Holden, Murphy's only 24 points behind after Pukekohe and there's still one round left! Much more close this year with Ford upping their game a bit.
  7. I'll see if I can find the magazine but a year ago or so this Japanese guy brought his RB26DETT powered 240z over to NZ for some drag championship at the time and pulled an 8.6xx

Thanks guys, these things happen I guess. Live and learn

Thanks Ed but I'm pretty sure I've hooked the battery charger the wrong way around, no more alarm or ECU. Oh well, I was going to upgrade my ECU eventually anyway so I might as well do it now I suppose, no sense in buying a standard ecu. Means I can run more boost now I guess

One of those days I think, I had arranged time off work to take my car to the suspension shop. I had just called the tow truck guy and he was on his way when I went to start my car and the battery was flat, it goes flat over a couple of days (this is another problem I was going to look at later). No problems I'll just hook up my battery charger I have always used in this senario. It made an ungodly noise, showed no amps being used and all my relays started clicking. After fixing a couple of fuses, 1/2 my lights don't work and more importantly the fuel pump doesn't work, bugger! No suspension shop for me today :-( And all this 1 week before it gets certified ARHHH!
  11. Hi, Hmm, interesting, on standard springs the front of my car was 35mm higher than the back, I thought maybe the previous owner had done something only to the back but - I bought 35mm lower springs for the front (to even out the ride height) and it's now 160mm which if that is the standard height it would imply the RB25DET + fibreglass front panels has considerably lightened the front of my 240z, great! Thanks 2ManyZ's.
  12. Thanks 2ManyZs, do you know at what level you will require new shocks?
  13. thanks, sorry this hasn't helped you out though
  14. Hi, Does any know: 1) What the standard ride height is for a Z (preferrably a 240z)? 2) Where this would have been taken from? 3) How low is too low or does it not matter just what shocks you are using (camber aside)? Thanks, Ivan
  15. do you have to modify the strut housing to fit these adjustable coilovers?
  16. Hmm, I've just bought some King Springs and my suspension shop told me they could only get them 35mm lower than standard and that there might be a reason why they don't come lower. This is good news as I will be discussing options to lower it another 30-40mm tomorrow. Do you know how much lower the low and super low are supposed to make the car?
  17. does that $1000 include labour or is it just parts?
  18. Hi, As for engines take a look at http://www.hybridz.org, they discuss all manner of engine swaps (L24's -> L28ET's, Rotarys [spit spit], Ford - Chevy - Mopar V8's, RB 20's -> 30's, toyota 6's, 4's [spit spit], even a few odd ball ones like Jag V12's, Dodge V10's, BMW 6's) If you are going to put a high hp in the rear ends are usually the weak link (the u-joints in the 1/2 shafts are notorious for breaking under high stress) but there are some alternatives such as later 280's with the beefier 1/2 shafts and R200's also a CV swap option

Hi, Sorry I can't help you with the post but you might want to research Subaru diff's as well as they use R160 -> R230 and a lot of them should be LSD's. I know of someone who has put a Skyline rear end (CV 1/2 shafts as well) in his 240z but I can't get hold of him. Here are all the sites / posts I've found on the net in the past that came close: http://kmhafer.datsun510.com/Subaru.htm http://www.legacycentral.org/library/differential.htm http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8872&forum=1 http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6298 http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=26660 http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20981&highlight=skyline http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3442&highlight=300ZX+LSD If you do find something please post it here
  20. $3500 NZD, for my '72. the guy had pulled it all apart and left it like that for 2 years. It's now (2 years on again) almost put back together after a further $30,000 or so spent (with an RB25DET and other stuff best not mentioned on this site).
  21. Excuse the terminology but I found a Silvia with a mechanical "gearbox cog thing" that bolted straight in the R32 gearbox and straight to the 240's "mechanical Speedo cable thing". I have yet to take it to a calibration shop to get calibrated though (I shouldn't imagine it to be a problem). As for the Tach, from what I can gather a 280's tach with the big 30 ohm resistor bypassed should be able to connect straight to the tach output from the ECU. I've done this mod but I haven't got my car at the moment to see if it works (it's at an interior shop at the moment).
  22. Hi, Can someone tell me the size and pitch of the steering wheel thread? Thanks, Ivan
  23. Hi James, the RB25DET is in and running, sounds really great, apparently only running about 10 - 12 psi but still more than enough hp for me. It's all painted and at the interior shop getting taned. My girlfriend has a job in Wollongong in January but is still waiting on an offer from Sydney. Thanks, Ivan
  24. hey 240znz, where was this 280 with the L20 being sold? the guy down the road has just bought two 280's wanting to do an L28 swap but the first one he bought had an L20 in it?
