What do I do to clean the block?
If the engine is out of the car EZ OFF oven cleaner does a great job. Use with caution as this stuff is BAD on the skin.

Loud Vibrating sound in rear! What's the deal?
I know of two ZX differentials that self destructed because the pinion shaft fell out of place. The shaft obviously wont come all the way out but it will come out far enough to make loud noises and create bad vibs. The guy that owned the car replaced the roll pin with a solid pin and welded it in place.

Loud Vibrating sound in rear! What's the deal?
If you don't find anything on the outside check the inside of the diff. I've heard the roll pin that holds the pinion shaft in place can shear and allow the pinion shaft to fall out of place.

brake booster upgrade
The 280 2+2 and the ZX booster are the same diameter. The problem is the clutch master is in the way.

I did the 4n71B swap in my 78. You need to remove the trans mount ears from the floor pan. Have a driveshaft made and add a radiator with a fluid cooler.I fabricated a trans rear mount and wired the inhibitor switch. The rest is pretty much a bolt on. For hi performance use there is a company in AUS that makes HI PERF parts. I found their web site by searching "4n71B transmissions". I did the conversion to make my car a better road car. RPM's dropped to 1200 at 60 MPH.

UPS brown?
My 78 is the original Datsun Metalic Brown with light tan pin stripes. It's not quite as dark as UPS brown. The car has won first place in the last three shows it was entered in. I think the color is very classy.

Spindle trouble
Without the right tools to do any given job you'll have trouble. It's the RULE. With a spindle pin puller, that job is no harder than changing spark plugs. I've done several without the least bit of problems. GET A PULLER!!!

Spindle trouble
I have a couple of spindle pin pullers for sale. They are the allthread and tube type. They take all of the misery out of removing the pins. The price is $35.00 plus $9.00 shipping. You can email me at skipzcar@aol.com.

Acetone in your gas!!!
For those interested in the changes that technology brings this acetone theory is worth at least a try. I tried it and it worked for me. A 15% increase in fuel mileage is by no means a miracle. But then all of the small changes that we have made over the long run have elevated some us out of the caves. Some evidently not. It's comforting to know that ignorance is curable.

Acetone in your gas!!!
"M" you should be. So far you've added nothing of value. If you had read the Info you would know that the fuel system components have been tested and have shown no adverse effects. Cleaner emissions also. And when did you get the idea that gas retailers wanted you to get better mileage?

No one has mentioned something as simple as a plugged fuel filter.

Acetone in your gas!!!
The log that I've kept has given me an excellent baseline to reference. The high mileages recorded were from interstate driving and the low mileages were from city driving. Being the curious type that I am, this opportunity to test the acetone theory was too great to pass up. No peer pressure at all. Just plain good old curiosity. It worked for me and all I wanted from this thread was to pass along some information. I think it defeats the purpose to investigate anything new if the first reaction is negative without first doing a bit of experimenting. "M" I know that everything on the internet is not the gospel. However, when I find something as interesting as increasing gas mileage with no more effort than adding a few ounces of acetone to the fuel tank I think it's worth trying. " Nothing ventured, nothing gained." The very worst that can be said is that it didn't work. In my case it did work.

A real good way to drive real information seeking people from this site is to post nothing more than smart alec, ignorant comments.

Acetone in your gas!!!
I've studied this for about six months. I drive a 1996 GMC Safari van that I've owned for approx. three years and I've kept a log on fuel consumption from day one. Prior to trying the acetone additive my mileage ranged between 13 and 17 mpg. I recently took a vacation to Washington State (My Mom lives on the Olympic peninsula). I live in Orlando. This would be a good time to put the acetone to the test. I added 3 oz to every 10 gallons and the results speak for themselves. The van ran flawlessly. The fuel mileage increased to 17 to 22 mpg. Every element of driving. Flatland, mountains, city and country. Total mileage for the trip was 7390. It works! Unless you've done a comprehensive test don't be so skeptical. With gas prices at $3.00 a gallon I'll try anything.

This is why I speed!
I've been to Kearney. It's a beautiful place to live. Be responsible. Live long and enjoy it. Enjoy it from the drivers seat of your Z. Not a wheelchair. Or from behind windows with bars. Share the beauty with your wife and children. Share the thrill of the Z with your grandchildren. Your future is not only your's but theirs also.

Anyone running a P90A head? Need Help!
I haven't experienced this problem so this is just a suggestion. Try increasing the valve clearances by .002 and see what happens. Maybe even a bit more. Experiment a bit. Since you are loosing things there is no chance of hurting anything.

no start
You might run a diagnostic on the inhibitor switch. It's on the right side of the trans behind the shift lever. It acts as a neutral safety switch so that the car can not be started in gear.
