70 Z Bought on EBay...ROAD TRIP!!
Ok - 1281 is for sale. My nephew who was going to restore this car got his fiance' pregnant and now they are getting married (congrats). The car has some rust by the battery box, near the gas filler and under the hatch. The floorboards look solid. I have replaced the hood, but it will need some adjustment. The car has a non-original 5 speed and the carbs are 3-screw SUs, probably out of a 72. I'm not looking to make money on this car, but I want it to go to sombody who will restore it. I can take some pics for serious buyers. I will put it in the classifieds soon...

How Close Are Our VIN #'s
Is the year listed the build year (inside door jam) or model year on the title? I gave 1970 as the year for HLS3003486 build date 4/70 even though the year on the title is 1971. For some unknown reason the car was not registered until 12/71 (20 months later!). If sombody wants to include build dates, my HLS3001281 build date is 2/70. I see there are 69s listed that makes me think we are going by build dates.

70 Z Bought on EBay...ROAD TRIP!!
Well I made it back safe and sound . 3125 miles from Friday night after work to Monday evening. Not too bad. I checked all the numbers - matching engine, checks with the firewall - all good! A little rust under the battery I didn't know about and also under the hatch, but not too bad. Correct hatch (vertical defrost), 2400 OHC valve cover too. Carbs are 3 screw - not correct, but I can get that and the steering wheel from my other one before my nephew gets it (sorry Troy). Also the speedometer is from a later car - he said he replaced it. It starts at 0 instead of 20. Still, after I got it off the tow dolly it fired right up! Not bad for $717.77 I think. I consider the trip cost a short vacation - gotta rationalize it somehow! I'll get pics and post them soon. Its good to be back in the Valley of the Sun...

70 Z Bought on EBay...ROAD TRIP!!
Unfortunately, I will be leaving on a Sunday and won't be able to get any permit locally in MO. I will be traversing MO, OK, TX, NM before I get home to AZ. I called MO's motor vehicles department and for $35 (i'd pay that) the tags could be re-upped - it is exempt from smog testing there. I'll run that by the seller. Failing that, I'll take my chances making sure I have bill of sale and signed title handy. Onuthin - thanks for your kind words. I'll be careful.

70 Z Bought on EBay...ROAD TRIP!!
I have towed my Zs across town many a time with no problems. I don't forsee any problems. I suppose I could just put it on the tow dolly rearend first. I use a come-along to put it on the dolly usually and the front end has an air dam so the hook I usually attach it to will be covered. I'll evaluate then I get there I guess.

70 Z Bought on EBay...ROAD TRIP!!
Just bought a 2/70 Z on EBay... the only catch is its for pickup only. I'm in Phoenix - the car is in St Louis. Looks like a road trip! Good thing I have a tow dolly. Bummer is the guy will not be there this weekend, so I have to go next (Superbowl weekend!). I don't want to put it off another week. Its a fixer upper but original. mapquest says its about 1500 miles... that will be a hardcore drive. lotsa caffeine i'm thinkin...

Barrett Jackson Auction, Scottsdale
I don't think anybody can predict what Zs will go for in the future. Who would have thought that that Futureliner bus would go for 4.1M? One thing that is a little different with the Z cars is that there was only 1 engine available and that the only numbered part is the engine block. Dataplates could easily be faked to force an engine match. Also, there is no way to track factory options since they were not put on a plate anywhere. Old paperwork is the only way this could be verified - and not many people would have that. My 2cents....

Driveshafts - Auto and 4spd the same?

Driveshafts - Auto and 4spd the same?
Does anybody know if the driveshaft from a 72 240 is identical between an automatic vs 4 speed car? I see in the Motorsports catalog there is only one part number, but I'd like to be sure... thank you in advance

Compressor Size
I am looking to buy a compressor to run air tools and do some media blasting. What cfm compressor will I need? I know the bigger the better.... I saw a 60 gal 3.5 horse one at Harbor Freight for 400, but it runs on 220 and I would need to have an electrician come out to the house to wire it. The biggest 110 compressor I saw did I think 5.6 cfm at 90psi. Any tips? Thank you in advance....

Matching 3 screw SU's?
Is it me or are these non-matching? The seller says they are matching 3 screw SU's from a 70 Z. If memory serves, 3 screw carbs came later. The bolt pattern is different it seems and the float bowls are both on the same side. I don't see how the linkage can go between. I'm at work or I'd go check my 70 in the garage... Sombody please tell me I'm dyslexic. thank you in advance...

Wheel Cylinders for early 72 where?
Does anybody know where I can get new rear wheel cylinders for my 6/72 Z for less than an arm and a leg? The best I can find is 57.97 apiece from NAPA special ordered. I struck out with Checker, and Pep Boys. BAP wanted 115 for them and I see them in the MSA catalog for 78. Autozone had them listed at 20.99 but can't get them anymore. Any help would be appreciated...
