Hey, Glad to hear you got it over Gregg. I was wondering if you were going to end up getting it there. Zak
  2. I bet theres a bit of Ford F150 red on his door after he left.... Z
  3. Someone beat you to this already: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=25942 Zak
  4. I did all of my wheel wells with a heat gun and a scraper, then solvent and a scour pad to get the rest off. zak
  5. Hey guys, Im going to Orlando this weekend for 2 weeks for a conference, and I was tossing the idea around of buying a used BMW Z3 or a Honda S2000, then driving it home and putting it for sale here and hopefully making a few bucks for the Z restore. That type of car is too rich for my blood, but they are good sellers up here and the ride back to Toronto would be a blast. I have been looking online at several and I figure I can get either with about 50K miles for 14,000.00 out the door. Im not familiar with the area, does anyone have any experience with any dealerships around the area or have any horror stories? Private sale would may be a better deal but I'd like a BMW or honda dealership to give it a go over first. Thanks for any advice guys. zak
  6. I 'd like to go out and 3 or 4 of the cheapest of those cars....so when my wife crashes one, I can just pull out another one for her.:nervous: zak

Thats what I hope my paint will look like when its done. Nice job, looks spotless inside. Zak
  9. Hey. keep plugging away at it. It will be worth it in the end. You probably wouldnt have gotten started if you didnt have a final vision in mind for the car. Any time you start to feel like youre in too deep, just have a look at some of the pics of the guys who get a step ahead and it will keep you going. I started my tear-down 2 years ago, and at the time I took detailed photos of every piece I took out or moved around. Now, for the life of me I cant remember what some of those pics are. Looks like a totally different car in some of them. Continuity IS IMPORTANT! But its a fairly simple car and theres lots of people here to help out if you just cant seem to remember something. The FSM and parts fiche are also great for looking at where things go and exploded views, etc. Anyways...keep at it and keep us posted. Zak

    Thats a good one. Z
  11. Yep Im in too. I recently had to cut out all the rusted screws and bolts for the turn signals, lenses, and valance. Zak
  12. I imagine a brass pole in the middle of the shop is out of the question too...might make it hard to move cars around.
  13. I've never been to this event either, but I think the import models are a great idea for next year then. Zak
  14. PM sent Ron.
  15. I just put it in the calendar. Learn somethin' new every day...

Hey all. Today is the Ontario Z Car (CANADA) swap meet. Its at Whitehead performance and I think starts at 9 or 10.
  17. Aww..come on. If you leave today you'll have plenty of time. Zak

Ya seriously. I read that thread over several times looking for any sign of both insult and childish behavior. None were found. I'd like to joke and say "how dare you sorta make fun of yourself on the internet", but that WOULD be childish and may be offensive to some. Zak
  19. Mike from Whitehead Performance in Toronto called me today to remind me that April 21st is the annual swap meet for Ontario Zcar club. Theres a link to it here: http://www.ontariozcar.com/eventz/EventCalendar/Swap%20Meet%20Notice%202007.pdf If youre in the GTA, this is a great opportunity to get parts or unload some spares. Get there early. Zak
  20. I got mine too. Excellent job on the decal. I dont want to put it on until I restore the booster it looks so good. Thank you Jeff! Zak

Welcome to the site. I have a '72 also, and was a complete noob but 2 years ago. I've learned a ton about the car in the time I've spent here (but i'm still a noob i think). The search function is great here, I suggest you jump in and start reading. Theres a wealth of knowledge here, and theres still good books out there like the Factory Service Manual and 'how to restore your z car' etc. Post all your pics to your gallery and keep everyone updated with your plans/progress. My PO had at least 3 coats of red over the old orange on my '72. Not even aircraft stripper would take it off. I ended up using a small propane torch and a paint scraper. I dont heat it too much, just more than a heat gun can do. That works great for the big areas and for the tight corners and door jambs I use a drill with a wire wheel or the 3M sanding disk thing. Z

I was looking at his other auction too. Now I am going to revisit that link and dig into identifying the cars that were there and whats on ebay. Or I could just email the seller and ask him if these are cars from that find and if there are any more listed anywhere. Z
  24. 35 up here in Toronto, Canada. I entered the Z game a little late it seems. It's the time in life where I wish I had just a bit more time to devote to learning about cars and mechanics in general. Work and family leave me with more time visiting this site than actually spending underneath my Z. Thank God this site is here to keep me motivated. (group hug time) I love you guys! :squareeye :squareeye Zak

I wonder if this is from that collection that was found in that 'barn' warehouse in portugal awhile ago. z
