  1. yes... slightly. just as long as you have good duration (overlap)
  2. very nice! but i'm sure you already knew that...
  3. i'm probably going to get the k&ns with the air horns. thanks for the input guys!
  4. because the stock air cleaner doesn't flow well enough for me, and i don't want to cut holes in it since i don't plan on butchering it. also, the winter/summer flap keeps closing on me when i'm driving and it gets me al hot and bothered.... the ITG looks ok, but i'm afraid that it might have the same effect if my intake backfires. also, i don't believe that it filters as well....
  5. i'm debating on which air cleaners to get for my SUs... right now i'm torn between the K&N round assemblies (similar to the ones in the second link) and the ramflo/longflow style air cleaners that MSA and victoria british sell... i plan on using MSAs air horns on my carbs to optimize flow efficency as wel. i was pretty much set on the ramflo ones but then i read on hybridz that if the intake backfires it will melt the air filter element (that wouldn't be too yummy). i plan on purchasing these very soon so any input would be great! ps.... since the ramflos will save me a little $$, they are a little more attractive... 6. yeah, i'm going through the same issue myself. i'm thinking about just drilling out the boss for the mechanical pump, since i'm already going to be doing headwork. as for the gasket, i would like to know this as well!
  7. i'm getting a ferarri F50 and i'm gonna thake the engine out and put it in my z. then i'm going to put my L24 in the ferarri.... the ferarri will still be faster b/c it's red, though....
  8. ^^ except this time it's chrysler....
  9. i thought that there was a special corvette "datsun" edition.....
  10. hey, better than bush
  11. there is "all Z auto wrecking" ... i saw it in the yellow pages when i was trying to find a place to take my 280zx...
  12. you mean this isn't "classiccapricars.com"?
  13. !!! wow! great find! which junkyard was it? did they have anything else good there?
  14. yes it does.... i knew i was going to have to bend it to get it to fit right, i just wasn't sure how much
  15. congrats on your purchase!
  16. it was a piece of cake for me! but then again i dropped the tranny and the driveshaft first.
  17. it has a lot of parts pulled out already, but it still has some good panels, seats (kinda messed up), front & rear discs, and some other stuff.. it's a 1979 280zx and i need to get rid of it by saturday. i'll give you the car for free if you come pick it up. it's in san diego on el cajon blvd... post for more 411! -jason ps... l28, 5speed and r200 not included
  18. haha... i have to do the same thing today, so if i get it out before you do i will let you know! -jason
  19. ^^ definitely good post, and i just want to say that the only $$ i plan on spending is new pads and brackets. other than that i have all of the other parts. i agree that upgrading the front is more of a priority than the back, which is why i want to do the toyota calipers conversion. anyway, thanks for the info! -jason
  20. okay, i've decided (due to recent developments) to stick with the L28 crank and N47 head... with flattop pistons of course! -jason
  21. not yet... i still haven't figured out which class i want to race in... i know, it's just that with the L28 block the bore will be too large for the L24 pistons... anyway, i'm gonna take your advice on the bolts and read up some more in the archives.. thanks! -jason
  22. **also posted in hybridz okay, i'm trying to find a really god combination for a street/autox car. i want decent power, but i don't need buttloads of torque. i have a 1972 240z (all stock) with the E88 head. i have a complete N47 L28 (1979) and i already have some ideas. i wanna know what you think! okay, i'm taking the 5 speed and i'm keeping the R180 (LSD comes later) and putting 4.11 gears in it (good idea?). i plan on getting flattop or slightly domed pistons and using the crank and rods from the L24 (i know you think this is going in the wrong direction, but i want revs!). will the L24 rods be good enough? I also want to know which head i should use (E88 or N47). i know the E88 has better compression, but is limited by the ports/valves. is there a better head that i can get for not a lot of $$? any feedback is greatly appreciated! -jason btw - i plan on running stock SUs for the time being, until i go for a good camshaft (shoud i use L24 or L28 until i get a custom one?) and a good intake system.
  23. ya, i'm gonna use the r200 (3.70) temporarily until i get 4.11 gears for my r180.... unless of course i can afford the gears first!
