rust in gas, bad running now
The Z Therapy vid shows another way to set your floats: Invert the bowl cover, and see that the plane between the front and rear (where the hinges are) of the float and the metal of the lid are exactly parallel. Another area for concern: are your mixture screws set correctly? If there was gunk in the nozze before, and not now, you may have an overflow situation...?

Do I have a bad alternator?
I have decided to swap the alt with another ZX alt I have to see if I can replicate the symptoms and proceed from there. I will see about rebuilding the 82ZX alt if I suddenly come into some cash.

Ignition
If you use a dremmel to notch out the knock-off studs, you may be able to get the ignition off and back on securely without having to break anything. PM me if you decide to chuck it all and want to replace your iginition with a cheaper used set.

Do I have a bad alternator?
Thanks for the input, guys! IIRC, the fanbelt had maybe 3/8" wiggle after tightening the tension bolt on the alt. The alt is not rebuilt. I took it straight out of the 82ZX parts car I have. This is happening all at idle: The squeal seems to come from inside the alt. It's not constant, and it seems to coincide with about every 4th rotation of the crank. It's leading me to believe there is a bad ball in the alt bearing, like it only squeals when that certain ball gets close to the top, rolling over the race, and going back down. ??? At speed, the alt is spinning with the belt, and the headlights still faded out. I guess I need to have it tested to be sure.

Clutch slave return spring?
Here you go Arne! As far as I can tell, the unsprung length of the SC spring is around 3 1/2 inches(out-to-out), and the diameter is about 1/2-5/8. I had to drill a pilot hole in the casing of the SC because this VB part didn't have a way to attach the spring.

Do I have a bad alternator?
OK, I did the ZX alt. swap with the help of Arne's adapter and excellent directions. As soon as I was able to start the car, a high-pitched squeal eminated from the engine compartment that was NOT there before the swap. Tonight, I got the car warmed up, the squeal was not as intense, but was still present. I noticed, as I was taking the car down the driveway, that the lights would dim (maybe -30% intensity) when I hit the brakes. I looked at the ammeter and it was reading on the negative end of the scale. I tired different accessories, ie windsheild wiper, and the car nearly stalled! The headlights nearly went out, and the wipers froze about 6 inches up the windheild. I coaxed the wipers back to the off position, and thought maybe some high RPMs would help the situation. As I was driving on the street, ~30 MPH in 3rd gear (with a 4 speed) I noticed that the headlights just got dimmer and dimmer. When I hit the brakes, the intensity almost dropped to zero. Do I need to reswap the alternator (I have one more ZX alt)? Do places like pep boys or kragan test the alt? TIA

Now taking orders - 240Z to 280ZX alternator adapters!
I did my alt. swap last night. I haven't run the car in a while, and the battery was dead. After about 2 hours with a trickle charger, I was able to coax the thing to life. I took the capacitor off along with the voltage regulator. What does a bad alternator bearing sound like? Is it an intermittant annoying, high-pitch squeal? That's what I got now. <shaking head> I also found that the fuel return soft line from the fuel rail was leaking-at both ends- so I had to shut her down before i could really tell if I am getting more/better juice.

Anybody here on the Central CA Coast?
Victor, thank you, I am a member of WCZR. I have met Steve on occaision, but he didn't have that car running like that then. (~8 years ago)

That, Sir, would be the one. I guess I have got to let Steve know his car has come a long way and is really cool.

Anybody here on the Central CA Coast?
Sunday (3-12-06) afternoon, I saw a NICE dark green or dark blue Z with double stripes from hood to rear valance driving southbound on Los Berros Rd, right in front of the Los Berros Market in Nipomo. The thing sounded VERY healthy, and was BEAUTIFUL, from what I could see, being ~50 yds away. Whos machine was this?

Anyone in Sacramento, CA have a Z in good condition?
That seems like good news, Jeremy. I am in the midst of replacing the weatherstripping, so I hope he doesn't need to see it while it is rainy!! I will help out as much as I can!

Anyone in Sacramento, CA have a Z in good condition?
Yes, please keep us informed.
-
Opinion on value?
I would seriously consider keeping it and fixing what's wrong with it. I doubt you will find another around here that is in nicer shape for what the insurance nazis will give you. The parts you need are easy to come by, as well.

If you still need it, I can bring my car into work and the guy can have a look at her...

Need 70 240Z Fuel Vapor Tank
Jon and I deleted my vapor tank and fabbed a 'manifold' that joined all the vent lines. No probs yet, just make sure you tighten ALL the clamps TIGHT.
-
need fuel tank help
As far as I remember, there is an "O" shaped flange coming off the tank that fits snug into the filler tube, with a band clamp around them both. There is an panel on the rear-end of the passenger side rear wheel well that you need to remove to gain access to the base of the filler tube. Then you just plug and play with the rest of the fuel lines.

240 or 260 at Rocklin CA Pick-N-Pull
Hey, Owen, Was the blue 73 still there? I got the tail lights and seats off that one. There were 2 other 240s there at the time (4 weekends ago) but were pretty picked over. One was red, I belive, and the other was white.

Now taking orders - 240Z to 280ZX alternator adapters!
I would have looked, if I had that question when I was at home, I've got an 81 running parts car, I will take a look at that. I took the alt. out of my 82 non running parts car. It was disconnected, and sitting in the cargo area. I think I am feeling saucy, and will send the payment today!

Hey, Arne, Is the unused port "P and E" an auxilary output? Do you know?
