gas tank problem
My 71 has a dual band clamp that holds the filler neck tight on the tank flange. I had to drop my tank last weekend (great father's day getaway!) There is about 1/2" between the bottom of the filler neck rubber and the top of the tank on my car. Yours may be different. IIRC, the tank flange sticks up about 2 inches. If you do not have a clamp holding the filler neck, I strongly suggest you install one. The fuel vapor will find a way into the passenger compartment if you do not.

Buyer Beware!
I do have the heat sheild. But I noticed this weekend a few things that cannot be coincidence: 1) While the bogging is occurring, the fuel filter is not full (with both an electric and the mech. fuel pumps) 2) The car runs and revs freely with no load. 3) After a few minutes, the electric fp would get louder and LOUDER until these symptoms began. 4) while I was draining the fuel in order to drop the tank to install said elect. fp, I noticed the fuel would flow free for a bit, and then trickle as air was sucked into the tank, then flow freely again, like holding a full bottle upside down. It hit me late yesterday: there is no venting to the tank. No resupply of air is getting in to displace the spent fuel, starving the motor. So what do I do now? jmortensen suggests trying to find a vented fuel filler cap. Are those available at NAPA? I have to get back under the car to see if the vent line from the intake manifold to the tank is plugged. I actually got chills thinking that this could be the answer, that I can actually be driving my car again soon!!!!

Buyer Beware!
That would be me. Same exact symptoms. I thought it was fuel, put in a (used) electric FP, swapped the E12-80 module ZX ignition), cleaned the tank, rebuilt the carbs and mech. fuel pump. After 20 mins...STUMBLE, BOG, lite back up for 2 seconds, BUCK, pull hard, MISS, COUGH, die. It will idle FINE, and not under load I can rev to past 5000 RPM. Under load, it won't go above 2000 without cutting out! The next thing I will try is a new coil, since the tack jumps all over the place when it happens. I also will try another elect. fuel pump, since I am not convinced the one I used is healthy. I dunno. It's pushing me to consider EDIS-6 from Ford, and go injected with MegaJolt Light, Jr.

help bad hatch strut support
Nope. If you lean on the ones I have, they have resistance, but they begin to compress at, I'd say, about 15-20 pounds of pressure. Sounds like you bought a overly complex prop-stick. ;o) Please let me know if you would like to purchase one that actually retracts (but I don't know if the ones I have are stout enough to keep the hatch up!!!)

What's wrong with the 280's?
I'd say, with the age of the vehicle, if it is bone stock, you would be safe with 150-170 range. Another thing to consider, the SAE rating of HP has changed, as well. The higher numbers you see advertized are most likely at the flywheel. I believe some discussions have been had recently on this matter on this forum. I just noticed you changed your sig. Looks nice. (but, um, is that a porta-potty at the end of the drive, near the pole?)

What's wrong with the 280's?
I am not going to get my panties in a bunch over 10 HP. Please also keep in mind that through the 70s, more and more regulations limiting emissions also choked power out of these motors. I have read that the early 260 made more power than the 280 because of this.

What's wrong with the 280's?
Ok, I can't edit anymore, so I will say this: I read the wrong line on Wikipedia, that website stated the L28 made 149 N/A.... hmmm

What's wrong with the 280's?
IF he was talking about stock 240 vs 280, that somebody was incorrect. Kick him in the shin. The L24 had around 145HP, and the L28 had about 165. The 240 is much lighter than the 280s, so maybe it might "feel" like it has more power... edit OK, if you believe Wikipedia, (I do not) the L24 had 151 HP, and the L28 has 154HP. But those #s are sketchy at best, IMHO.

280ZX Help!
You have been here for a while, so I won't use the SEARCH card...That being said, the ZX motor is the same L28 motor on the Zs. It just has more stuff bogging it down. Have you replaced the plugs or checked the ignition wires and distributor for corrosion/rodentia/tight fittings? Is there a ratnest in the intake? Are ALL the ground connectios free from corrosion? Is the oil in decent shape? What was the reason for the car not being used in the first place? If you haven't guessed by now, there are MANY reasons why an old car that has been sitting for a while won't start right off the bat.

Seller Sadnes
I wouldn't be too upset about it, especially if you made over $150 on the deal. Now, if you had the PAIR of NOS lights, then I might be a bit more "reluctant" to see them go for under about $500. Sometimes you just gotta love Ebay and the concourse crowd!

Add your one liners.
What's a carpenter's dream? She's gotta be flat as a board, and easy to nail. Confuscious: 1) Man who goes to bed with itchy butt wake up with stinky finger. 2) Man who cooks carrots and peas in the same pot - VERRRRY unsanitary.

Choke
Sounds to me that your choke cable is a bit too tight. I'd try adjusting at the carbs, if you have enough length, to let more cable into the sheath. If that doesn't work, maybe reposition your choke cable differently for a shorter shot to the carbs.

In the woods
IN THE WOODS While walking through the woods near Boulder, Colorado, a man came upon another man hugging a tree with his ear firmly against the tree. Seeing this he inquired, "Just out of curiosity, what the heck are you doing? "I'm listening to the music of the tree," "You've got to be kidding me." "No, would you like to give it a try?" Understandably curious, the man says, "Well, OK..." So he wrapped his arms around the tree and pressed his ear up against it. With this the other guy, slapped a pair of handcuffs on him, took his wallet, jewelry, car keys, then stripped him naked and left. Two hours later another nature lover strolled by, saw this guy handcuffed to the tree stark naked, and asked, "What the hell happened to you?" He told the guy the whole terrible story about how he got there. When he finished telling his story; the other guy shook his head in sympathy, walked around behind him, kissed him gently behind the ear and said, "Cupcake, this just ain't your day..."

Powdered alcohol?
Yes, you are correct. My wife comes home sad often after working with severely emotionally disturbed children. She wants to bring home one in particular because the mom's always strung out.
