My bad, I overlooked the part about the 1500 miles since restoration.

The BaT listing states that the car underwent a rotisserie restoration back in 1996 and 1997. 20 years can take its toll on a car, especially the if paint wasn't the best quality to start with, it was driven a lot and parked outside, etc., that would at least partially explain the problems with the paint.

I agree with you, he seriously wants a 240Z. It will be interesting to see if anyone exceeds his $60k bid and if so, how much the final amount will be when the auction expires.

This Z was bid up to $60k on its first day. The values on the Series I Zs in good condition have really increased.

Good detective work, Terrapin! I recently subscribed to Instagram about a month ago, but I haven't posted anything yet. Right now I just follow family, friends, ski areas where I go and classic cars, etc. ThreePedalCollective is a character, he calls his cars sh**t boxes, even his very expensive Porsche 911s, etc.

You're correct, it has a rebuilt 2.4 liter replacement engine and the car's original engine is included with the purchase (which makes it a hassle for the buyer having to pay to transport both). And yes, I also noticed that the front of the radiator support wasn't painted black - which really shows up when a 240Z happens be white or another light color. The grille looks bent as well.

What's incredible is that there was a $40K bid placed only 25 minutes into the auction, blowing the first bid of $10k completely out of the water! This morning a third bid came in at $42.5K and and hour later the bidder who placed the earlier $40K bid placed a bid for $45K. All of this happening during the first 12 to 13 hours of the auction with 6 and a half days to go. If activity like this continues on these auctions, it could cause a bubble.

Motorsport Auto looks to have the same aftermarket replacement door panels https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic08h02a01/40-2096 I was originally planning to purchase a set of black 240Z door skins with the chrome strips already attached from Les Cannaday at Classic Datsun Motorsports. Back in 2011, I purchased a set of blue door skins with the chrome strips for my '71 904 White with blue interior and they were high-quality. I had a local upholstery shop attach the door skins, along with a set of new fuzzy strips place on a solid set of 240Z door cards and they looked great! I have since sold the car and have 2 other '71 240Z projects. However, the set from Motorsport Auto for $370.00 plus shipping for a set already to go, it's very tempting. The new door skins from Les with shipping are going to be close to $300.00 and I still need to find a good set of used door panels plus the new fuzzy strips and pay the upholstery shop, which is going to double the cost.

I guess you should have kept the reproduction one that you sold with the slightly-off shift map. Your NOS shift knob is sitting in a box and now you have to shift gears with no shift knob at all.

You're welcome, Jim! The pictures really don't do the new shift knobs justice. Captain Obvious mentioned the shift map, comparing the shift map of the original knob in a couple of the pictures to reproduction shift maps, but it's no big deal, it's close enough for me and the knob itself is much better quality then the original.

My second 240Z walnut shift knob arrived today and it is beautiful! This is the second shift knob that I have purchased this month, both from the same seller on eBay. The first one was a 5-speed shift knob and I liked it so much that I ordered a second one, a 4-speed walnut shift knob. Both shift knobs are for my two '71 240Z projects. They are the same size and shape as the original 240Z wood shift knobs, but are a much better quality. Max is great to work with and I highly recommend him and his high-quality walnut shift knobs. I took some pictures of the 2 new knobs along with my original, badly-faded and peeling plastic chrome ring on the bottom shift knob.
