  1. Su carb maintenance. I'm wondering is there a section on this site that gives a write up on the maintenance of these things. I find that they always seem to be too rich but I admit I've never bought a Unisyn or Colortune kit for it I've been putting it off and since someone reveresed into my Z a week or so ago I've spent the money on getting a new bonnet sprayed. ENough about that however.... The oil in the dampening chamber is to stop the throttle opening up too quick isn't it? As far as I understand to tune these things you first set your electrical timing. Allow the car to be warm of course. Remove air filter. Disconnnect carbs at throttle linkage so that they are independant of each other. Adjust air flow nut so that both carbs are sucking the same amount using the famous Unisyn or go by hearing as I do . Bring car down to normal idle speed. Reconnect carbs together check air flow again. After that to do the mixture right I believe u start at 2 and 1/2 turns from the top, down. Since I don't have the color tune you should be looking for a brownish color on your spark plugs after a quick drive on each 123 cylinders and 456 cylinders. Gray means too lean black means too rich..... That's my input maybe not very clear but best I can do with this little sleep. Has anyone got a better site than this.. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/su.html For maintaining or tuning SU carbs??? I was gonna buy that book off ebay but they need credit card something I don't have .
  2. Ben's pretty much got it all nailed down there. Ben I'd like to know more about these dealer turbo options???? I have a L28 P90 Head F54 BLock engine here not sure what compression it's running haven't pulled it apart yet. Yes Simon's L28 is a mean piece of machine. I have another friend www.geocities.com/spized1969/ who has an L28 turbo in his car I think he's using a N42 engine head. THe car makes 200RWKW he's hoping to upgrade that soon with a new turbo and aim for around 230rwkw +. Basically the intake manifold is different. The exhaust manifold will have to be fabricated. To suit a turbo. The ZX came with a T3 stock much like the VL but without water cooling I think. You will need an ECU not cheap should buy a good one. Gearbox might be a problem u could use a late model FJ20 unit I believe not sure on the mods required. Z boxes are pretty strong anyway. That's all I can think of for now I've missed bits and pieces I'm sure. :classic:

  5. I like the green one it's a better buy in my opinion a V8 ruins the car a straight 6 in it's place is another story *cough* RB26DETT. I'm more original than that anyway I like the L series so it's just my taste but if you ever wanted to go a V8 you have the option later. The green one seems to have a good history and little issues. :classic: PS: 260z's are nice but maybe holding out for a 240z will make you happier in the end. I know I love the 240z's rear lights much more.
  6. Well I didn't like it much at first. Actually I thought no what are Nissan doing it's not like the 240z bring back the 240z. Anyway I got used to the style the weight of the car put me off but I've come to realise nobody wants a "True Sports car" by which I mean nobody wants a period race car of the 60/70's except for people like us. People are getting lazy and as such come to expect things like power seats power steering a/c etc etc etc.... Whilst I'm still young and enjoy the 240z for what it was and for it's primative creature comforts. A higher roller would not like it.. However the new Z has much more power than the early 240z and it's a well balanced car. As such the weight is only a minor issue at least it's RWD not FWD trash. I truely believe Nissan have a winner with this one and it's bargain price is something that Subaru's WRX and Mazda RX8 and as the article above states the Porsche Boxter will have to try very hard to squeeze out. Good Luck Nissan. PS: Let's not forget a new retro modern car could reflect it's older brother and raise the value of earlier Z's.
  7. Alpha I've noticed alot of people don't know what the 240z is here in AUS. I believe it's because we didn't get many here in Aus and it makes them quite a rarity I find that it's often mistaken for all sorts of other cars. I'm not suprised the Nissan guys didn't notice the 240z most of them are probably too young or too uninterested to know what the hell it is. It's sad really but it should be a much higher regarded car more so than a Ford Mustang.:classic:

  14. SJCURTIS what do you think of the early E88 heads? I have pinging problems with my 10:1 compression ratio. It has the F54 Block and Electronic ignition I'm told the N47 Needles will help to correct this problem as it makes the compression chamber richer at higher revs. Gav:classic: PS: I've been looking for a E31 engine head I'll be looking for a E30 from now on. I have a spare P90 also :devious:

  17. This is a common question. Alot has to do with US laws. Apparently there was Gross and Net Horsepower Gross being the total power of the engine with all accessories belts etc.. disconnected. EG: Alternator, Air Con and run in a perfect environment. The other NET is a more reliable and accurate reading of horsepower with all it's components connected etc... So this may explain the discrepancies. There's more detail about it at http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html hope this helps.:classic:
  18. Alot of work there for around $400 it's a good deal. Although those floors are worse than he makes out under that tar mat I'm sure there's rust lurking. The bonnet is rooted engine not running interior missing bits apart from seats. I hope someone is patient if I didn't have a Z I'd be interested I guess bit scared about the rust issues under that paint but...
  19. The Video Clip is of "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" I'm d/l it off Kazaa now :classic:
