No Oh! the smiley faces are gone! Actually, the Z friends I see all the time call each other's cars POS, but we know we are joking. I dated a girl who thought 26 was rather outdated. My ex thought the ride was too harsh. But once, at a stop light, a girl pulled up next to me in a pick-up truck, shouted out; "Nice car" and handed me a slip of paper with her phone number on it. God's honest truth.

11 bidders, but I don't know the high bidder. We don't seem to think the high bidder from last time participated in this one. When I was talking to Jim last night, he suggested Burt was trying to find a blue / blue car like kats' car. Burt really fell for kats' car in California last June. Burt's first Z was blue / blue and he was cream'n every time we were hanging out with kats. Just guessing at what he is up to. We'll find out more when this hurricane goes away.

I see POS a lot from my friends. What does that mean? Is it abbreviation for positive?

I just found this thread, Mike. I got the three glove boxes and am very impressed. Thanks. You guys really did a super job.
  5. You can't use Bristol as an example!!!! Nice try. :knockedou But not the same situation. And "roughly" doesn't count either :classic: I completely accept your view concerning a marketing sales ploy, Alan. F is used with a stretch of the imagination, isn't it? BTW, where the hell have you been? I wrote Len asking about you. The F restoration cars represent a unique chapter in the story of the 240Z. I took the chance to visit PierreZ when I was in California. I didn't get a chance to see Les Canaday's place. Just looking at the shop gives you an idea of what happened and how well the cars were restored. Evidently, Pierre took the cars apart and the body shells were prepared at another shop. As the painted bodies returned, Pierre et al reassembled each car in Pierre's shop not more than one or two at a time. Pierre assembled the engine / transmission with the sub frame / front suspension on a stand and lowered the car on it using the lift. I saw pictures of cars covered in foam padding for protection while they were hand assembled. Pierre said that Nissan had a lot of trouble coming up with parts. There are pictures of many cars, some with a/c, wheels, and one custom built for the editor of AutoWeek magazine. There is also a record of news briefs, press releases and show events surrounding the affair. For the collector market, these cars represent a restoration standard. I can't believe there isn't a regestry. It is a shame how things get disjointed and interpreted incorrectly. Just last month, "Roundel" magazine's Mark Calabrese reported that Albrecht designed the 240Z in his discussion of all the cool cars he has owned. Just a shame.

I know Burt and the car. Burt was with us - the Tampa Zcrowd - at the national convention. I don't talk to him much anymore because all he does is e-mail me pictures of gross fat chicks and I am demanding a written apology sent by registered mail. I don't know what he is doing. All the local e-mail between the Tampa guys is "look what Burt is up to now!" I wonder often if Burt knows what he is doing. Its all just too funny, so I sit back and enjoy the show. I will vouch for the car. I took many of the pictures in the add. It is very nice and is one of those cars that is collected, not driven. I would certainly advise looking at it before offering a bid. And if Burt is reading this: "You go big boy".

Not exactly. As I understand it, Burt withdrew the car before the end of the auction last time. I don't know any of the current bidders off hand.

I'm sorry I can't find the thread from a couple of months ago. Burt is selling his car again. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2486578721&indexURL=1#ebayphotohosting
  9. Alan, Nissan, ie. "factory" in fact purchased Z cars, arranged for them to be restored, paid for the restoration, and then sold them through selected Nissan dealerships in the United States. No other automotive manufacturer had done that before. Certainly manufacturers have offered restoration services on a customer basis before, but a manufacturer had never purchased cars for resale through its own sales facilities. All of the cars were restored on a contract basis by private companies - contracted by Nissan and under Nissan supervision. When the program was announced, orders were placed and sometimes filled to suit the specific customer requests. Cars were fitted with air conditioning, mag wheels, spoilers and other items normally considered "dealer options". That is what is considered the "Factory Restoration Program". Did someone tinkle in your morning Cheerios?
  10. Dave, The tail light valance should be about the same color as the D hubcaps and the front grill. It is flat lacquer metallic gunmetal in various shades. Some people prefer the very light gunmetal seen in some sales brochures while others prefer the grill, hubcaps and valance to match in a darker shade. I think the front line of that battle was somewhere South of Tennessee last week. So that you don't worry, FR cars came with things like A/C and mag wheels. Good luck!
  11. Zhome.com has paint information and mperdue did this work of art. http://datsunprojects.org/zpaintcodes/
  12. O 4 Chrissake....take the bumpers off.
  13. Is there an accounting of the restoration vehicles? Has anyone written down who restored what car when? I need to call Beck.

  15. The profile of each cam lobe is ground into a shape that keeps one valve open just long enough for the other valve to open so that at one point both intake and exhaust valves are actually open.
  16. Victor, you hit most all the basics as I understand it all. Most everyone I talk with refers to a 10:1 ratio which I think that is a little high for street use. And then, fuel is going to be the limiting factor. 10:1 is going to require at least 98 octane for an engine like the L24. I think no matter how you acheive a higher compression ratio, its the whole package of cam, valves, etc. that is going to relate to horse power increase.
  17. The hotter the water the better for any glass cleaning. Yep, vinegar or rubbing alcohol will most likely do the trick. The trouble with these products and most over-the-counter stuff is that they contain silicon oils. This will eventually damage your rubber seals and make them turn white. Stay away from silicon oils. The gaskets on the flap vents or the cable adjustment is probably what needs attention. Those gaskets were just cheap, low density foam. Made for disintigration.

4 studs and the nuts are tiny - 8mm? I like my long sockets for that application. You may find two rubber plugs in the fender, similar to that rubber bung plug in the hatch rail. They are vibration bumpers for the assembly.
  19. I think I saw your post on the Zcar.com. Congrats! I visited PierreZ when I was out for the national convention and have a video about the restoration process. Pictures! We love pictures!

This model is on eBay at the moment. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6917828816&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT I have not seen many of these, but the story about it is valid. These little gifts were given out for various occasions. Some Japanese dealers gave plated car / cigarette cases away as gifts for buying a Z. They are collected seriously in Japan and come in gold, silver, and bronze plating. Thought you model freaks out there would like to see some of these. I would love one.

I think you will get better filter protection from the K&Ns. I like the K&Ns.

I enjoy Texas blondes. They are very distinctive. U'r gonna haffa work harder, Bill. Tht eBay ad is purty dumb.
  23. I just finished rebuilding an engine, so I punched some numbers in for the items you described. Then I cruised the site and punched in the numbers for the pistons, timing set, etc... and came up with $1759 - pretty close. I'ld say it was a good deal.

From what I understand, 27 shows a 10 / 69 build stamp - to be verified. 26 shows an 11 / 69 build stamp and the dated parts on the car are 10 / 69 and 9 / 69. My explanation has always been that 26 was pulled out of line for misbehavior, but now that 27 is talking, the story may change. More on that later. Alan T. suggested many months ago that the actual date stamp was not made on the assembly line, but at Nissan's shipping facility and I can't remember the name. There is controversy over that issue. We all tend to believe that the cars were manufactured sequentially and we have every reason to believe they were. According to the build records kats showed us, 26 and 27 should have been manufactured in October. We may never know why the discrepancy, but you can certainly count on a great fabrication from me! I posted all of the legible pictures I have of 27 in my gallery.
