They are the vertical chrome bumper guards.
  2. If you have the L28 with the dished pistons you can put on the E31 and run pump gas and still be ahead of the L24!

The exhaust tip should be located in the valence cutout (even a 2 1/2" will fit), but since you have a different year center bumper section the over-rider will be in the way. Notice how RolfSis avitar has the correct over-riders located closer to the middle of the car (thus not blocking the exhaust cutout).
  4. Put in bigger valves since you are doing the head and drop it on the 280 block, free extra 400cc and a lot more torque.

and center bumper section. That is why your exhaust pipe cannot be located in the valence exhaust cutout.

    Your rear bumper over-riders are from a '73 240Z.

I had triple Mikuni 44s that ran great, but I wanted the low end torque too, so now I have triple TWM 45 throttle bodies. Tuning is much easier because all you need is your laptop. FI is much better than carbs and the throttle bodies look even better than my Mikunis.
  8. A nice touch is to cut open the transmission tunnel forward to fit the '72 tunnel boot and metal ring thus sealing off the outside and giving sufficient shifter clearance.
  9. The vertical wall of the console that contacts the shifter needs to be removed almost up to the horizontal surface. The mods does not look too obvious because the fabric shifter boot is still intact. A Dremel tool cuts the console like butter. The later short shifter kit used to be available from MSA. The early and later kits are different as well as the new shifter rods. If you really don't want to cut the console at this point I think the only option is to reweld the stock shifter as in the previous posts.
  10. Everyone just remember that offset changes with wheel width.
  11. Typically you trim back the fiberglass console to clear the shifter. The MSA short shifter does reduce the fore and aft throw considerabily, but I can't tell you if it will clear as I had already trimmed the console.
  12. Are there any Australian only parts us USA guys might find hard to get here?

Anybody want to try this mod? http://www.extrudabody.biz/servlet/the-135/Twin-SU-SU%27s-MGB/Detail
  14. I am guessing from the zero response that there aren't any Z shops around the area.
  15. We are planning a trip to see the Australian Grand Prix in February/March '08. Are there any Z specific shops in the Sydney or Melbourne area?

It should have been an even swap. Make sure the suction piston isn't stuck. With the engine off, remove the air cleaner and piston dome dipstick then check for smooth easy movement of the piston by lifting it up through the air cleaner side. You should also here a solid clunk when the piston hits the bottom of the carb. Good luck.
  17. Don't forget the insulators between carbs and manifold. They are for heat and vibration dampening. As for tuning a wideband O2 gauge and sensor like an AEM UEGO Gauge http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=AVM%2D30%2D4100&N=700+308464+115&autoview=sku works wonders to pinpointing your tuning needs.

The B type forks are the same. The key difference in all this is the length of the bearing collar. The clutch plate and pressure plate is the same (as long as you are not switching between a coupe and 2+2). You can keep everything except use the bearing collar that came with the transmission you are installing.

You use the bearing collar that came with the transmission (they might be the same length). Did make sure you put the clutch plate on the correct side (flywheel side is different than the pressure plate side)?
  21. Won't next year be the magic year for Andy? His '78 will be 30 years old and his Z will be exempt from smog because of some CA historic rule?
  22. I've also seen bent Mikuni butterflies especially if your set does not have linkage stops on the carbs.
  23. Is laptop programmable triple throttle body fuel injection over the top? I have pictures in my gallery.
  24. Thanks for the proof reading; yes I mean 225/50-15.
  25. different spring rate and the rear springs are progressive
