Reproduction JDM headlight covers with trim
MikeW, I am going to the trouble of making a couple of sets anyway for me(I have made plexiglass molds before), so adding some effort, machinery, and using higher wear materials for the molds will make the endeavor much more expensive, but I have already sprung for a NOS set to model from(not cheep by any means), and if I can sell 50 sets, at around $200(CZC club members only) I should break even. I will use eBay like you did to sell to non-members for what the market will spend. I expect to sell more than 50 sets, and even sell upgrade/replacement parts. Will If those of you that have lived with these a while have any suggestions for a better design without changing the appearance, I welcome them. Will

Charley's Comming
You would think that, in a disaster of that magnatude, everyone would pull together and get the job done, but some people have so much more of the selfish gene, they can't get enough help, so thay take it at everone elses expense. Not the kind of people you want as neighbors-and truthfully, neighter do they. Glad you and yours spared to the extent you were! Will

Gary, after my recent experience with my Sawzall, I can completely understand, you bought it to use, and letting someone else take your use out of it is "thoroughly aggrivating(siad with a cartoon voice whilst holding an ACME disintegrator ray gun, and wearing a floor brush on your head-all too keep you from going off with both barrels on the ragafraggit, moringgrattit, mongrill wascally rabbit)" Will

Reproduction JDM headlight covers with trim
I bought a NOS set of the JDM headlight covers with the intention creating faithful reproductions with a few invisible upgrades(headlight seals-true stainless steel trim, available replacement parts...) I will not be starting this until after the '72 is on the street. I will be making at least a couple of sets as replacements for mine-just in case. My intent is to make them visually indistinguishable from, and interchangeable with the OEM part. On a beautiful day they would be indistinguishable, but they would be clearly superior after rain or a sudden weather change. Those of you who have experience with them know what I mean. I will also make the seals available to those who already have the JDM parts. Who would be interested in a pair at around $200 complete? (lenses, hardware, and rings-Instructions would be in english, but a copy of the original Japanese will be available upon request! This is not yet an offer, only a little research that may well lead to one. Will

My good friend broke the pin lose today! More heat, more hammers! he cut one of the mushrooms off and all that is left to do is find an appropriately sized drift-I am just not as good with the heat wrench! I still will have to get another useable pin, so the puller will be put together. Will

I am going to cut the pin in two places tomorrow, and hopefully use my shop press to remove what will be the center section. If not I will be setting up a similar tool to pull one from a 280Z parts car. If all goes well, then I will strip and paint the pieces over the next several days, and get the new urethane in place shortly thereafter. Will

What like beating the crap out of it on both ends with two different hammers! Oh, wait, that was me... I did work at Western Auto the summer after High School. and every time I had a problem, the mechanics answer was always "Get a bigger hammer." I guess I took his words to heart! Will

I stand corrected! -Just look at me pounding a threaded rod into two mushroomed ends-where is the wisdom in that-it is with you, getting the right tool for the job! Carl, I found the perfect tickle to your funny bone, but I can't seem to get it posted-but be warned, it is lurking out there waiting! Will

Anybody knows what happens when you loan out tools to someone for the first and last time? Thats right they come back with all of the blades used and not replaced, or worse yet, broken. I had loaned m sawzall to a neighbor to cut off three pieces of 1" pipe. I had a card of 10 6" Dewalt bi-metal blades, and several other mixed cut blades. I got everything I lent him back, but every blade in the box has no teeth in the cutting section of the blade. Not a word about it when he gave the saw back. Needless to say, I have to hitup Lowes for some more blades tomorrow morning to attempt the cuts on the pin. Dave, That is pretty much what I invisioned, nice tool. I was thinking of adapting one of my spring compressors to the same job-all It would take is a tube, a thick washer and a union threaded appropriately-maybe a hole and pin for the union end of the spring compressor-and oh yes, the bearing-I was going to replace mine anyway... If I didn't have everything right at hand, I would just buy from you-it isn't like I have enough to do with out adding more! Will

The song says" too much passion is never enough" Z = passion! Get more Zs, that way if something ever happens to one you have no risk of "withdrawl" we had a good thread on the effects of going Z-less a while back, and annother on the effects of being infected with Z-itus. The subject of this thread is really the cause of Z-itus, but hey, sounds like you already have it! Me too! Will

Ditto, Gary, if you wouldn't mind posting a picture ot two,(probably a good tech article candidate). I have no aversion to welding a rod to the spindle pin to get the lovely thing out. I can cut off the mushrooms from both ends and have a nice, straight section of pin to pull out. I will take some pictures of why not to do what to post to this thread tonight-if I can edit the original post, I will put them there. Will

What Carl said! I had a perfectly good '73, and chose to pass it along to someone who would treasure it so that I could rescue the '72 that I am just getting started on. One less sacrifice to the rust God, one more beautiful car for the world! I have similar taste to Kennys. I did a 280ZX t-top to keep the "convertable" in the right lineage, and to have a little more longevity to the top. Will

I looked at cutting the pin at the open hinge points, But I am not confident I could cut it stright enough with the sawzall to not hurt either of the pieces. I had considered making a screw based puller and welding the rod to the pin, but I had the idea, and not the materials... I probably could cut the pin, and I do have a healthy shop press. I am working on the car all day tomorrow, I will give it a shot. Will

Not really a rotisserie...
I ordered it from Kmack (member here) and while it is similar to an engine stand, it is taller, and made out of heavier materials than the two I have from Harbor Freight. I could not have made it for what I paid for it in terms of time or materials. Ken made t to work with several Datsuns with only some modifications to the body mounts. I have several cars that will be using it after the '72 is back on her "feet" I am almost through adapting it so that I can roll the whole thing loaded with a body on a trailer and take it to be media blasted or shot with urethane bedliner. Another thought I have had is: My garage it too narrow to paint in, but if I motorize the rotissie, I can push th car to one side to where it will just clear the wall, and have plenty of room to paint the car top and bottom, also turning it upside down will keep the dust from settling on the hood and roof and allow me to paint the car more comfortably. I would have to work out some stand-offs to allow me to paint the rear bumper area that is covered by the rear mount. There is a Harbor Freight here in town, and buying a 2000lb electric cilynder winch to sacrifice for the project is not beneath me! Will
