get a load of this one!
That one does look a bit odd, but at least the seller knows what he has, and seems to have some ide that it may not be "worth more than any Z you will ever own". The buy it now doesn't bother me in either auction, but on the auction you brought to the table, 500 miles in the last 15 years-doesn't sound like a dependable car to me-even as a drag car. Asked to leave the track because of a lack of safety equipment either, that was 15 years ago, or... He evidently hasn't installed the safety equipment or been back to the track...just leaves me with more questions... Will

get a load of this one!
I read through this and just had to laugh! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-1973-Datsun-240z-Christmas-is-coming_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6187QQihZ004QQitemZ140057941270QQrdZ1 "...it is not perfect by any means but no matter what you do to it in upgrades it will be worth more than any other Z you ever will own." Haaahaahahaahahhahhaahhaaa! ROFL My '72 is worth more in pieces(almost all are new old stock) than this car is together and running. I could probably put my lighting and dash on ebay and get more than what this car will go for(every part of every light assembly for the car is NOS as is the dash and everything in it) I would imagine most of the members here will have something worth more when they finish their projects " will continue upgrading this car and if it doesn't sell on here... this winter it will be painted and the price will go up... " ROFL HaahaaahhaaahahhahhaaROFL If it didn't sell at the price you have on it, you are going to put more money in it an up the price! If the car wasn't running or had some major flaw putting money into correction and upping the price could be justified-but the paint is probably not the issue....nor would adding more upgrades help out. The car is simply an upgraded '73 with some body work, a bunch of aftermarket parts, cut springs, and parts from several different years of Zs. I don't SEE any part or combination thereof that maket it a "once in a lifetime opportunity"-well maybe if both floormats(only part of one is pictured) are in excellent shape... That said, it is not a bad looking car, but since he doesn't have pictures of any of the stuf that comes with the car, the perfect frame rails or floors, and hasn't taken the time to swap the wheels and tires(even though they were ready for swapping when he put together the ad), we can make assumptions about why... (shorter wheels make it drag the ground, the pieces that aren't pictuired are in poor shape...etc) If the car was actually a thourough and well done restoration and not modified, it would be worth more with all of the things he says will come with it, but as a car pieced tgether with parts from other years, off the shelf additions and substantial body alterations("metal fender flares") is is simply another modified Z. After saying all of that, the car doesn't look bad, and if I were going to consider it, I would have to take a magnet to the car, the carpet out, and go over it to find out if the quietness isn't due to an abundance of composite materials or bog! His disclaimer leads me to think he found something he didn't list as a selling point. Will

New Z Owner in Utah
Welcome, and congratulations! If you store the '70, put it somewhere dry! If you don't want to tackle it as aproject, consider selling it to someone who would before parting it out-72 specific parts are easy to find inexpensively, parts specific to the '70 are much more difficult to find, and though they are interchangeable in some cases, a restoration of the '70 would require pieces from a '70! Keeping it as found would be better for any future restoration. Welcome again! Will

Brushie1320022 Parts
I want a set of early coat knobs(metal knobs, not plastic hooks), a set of real datsun fog lamps with the dash switch as designated for a 240Z in the 240Z parts book(we can exchange pics to be sure we are talking about the same pieces) I figure if I don't ask and the parts are there, they will stay there and not come to me! I don't want "a don't ask don't tell" sichyachun when it comes to old z parts... Will

How often do you drive your Z?
Once the '72 is shiney side up again(it is on extended holiday on a rotisserie(thanks Kmack) and it all goes back together, I will drive the car every pretty day. The '73 I was driving was driven every day to about 30k a year, for six years. The car had 118k when I got it, and other than replacing a starter, an alternator, and straightening out the AC, and wipers, it ran flawless for the next 180k until my wife had Sears put a battery in it as a suprise, they didn't clamp the battery down, and as the tech pulled it out of the bay the battery tipped, burning a hole in the hood frame, and toasting the engine harness with the the alternator wire... Now it sits in the driveway as a mule for the turbo engine setup for the '72. Then the '73 will go into storage until the roadster and the Alpha 1 are completed, and its time comes again! Will

Non-Z diagnosic question - Stumped
Purely a gut reaction-no knowlegdge of a Miata other than where the gas and key go- but see what is going on with your AC clutch-if the PS and the Ac are on the same belt....any issue in the clutch could become an issue with the PS pump... Have someone sit in the car and turn the ac on and off and see what happens... Will

Wtf!!
The filter is probably clogged-drop the tank! The problem you had only proves the problem is with the fuel intake-your tank is probably fUll of little stuf that uLtimately cloggs the pump(now the filter), and big stuff that blocks the pickup-thats why it runs again after sitting a while. It sounds to me like you will keep having these problems untill you drop the tank and get the junk out of it! I think you would be more effective addressing the problem rather than the symptoms. Dropping and cleaning the tank should get and keep you out from under the car and back into the drivers seat... Will

Wtf!!
I would Drop and clean the tank, it has probably been loading the pumps up with junk and that is why they are getting noisy. Will

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
That looks like a DS door mirror-the easiest way to tell is to hold its base flat on the edge of a a table and see which way it leans. When looking at it from the front, a DS mirror will lean to the left, from the back, obviously it would lean the other way. A PS mirror will be exactly the opposite. The blue example is a stalk from a PS mirror.. Will

Looking for a RHS 240Z mirror?
Those mirrors do favor the ones issued to us septics, even in terms of part numbers, but the part numbers from down under aren't valid here either. The mirror on the red car looks to be an example of one that has had the flag rotated-that is to say it is actually a mirror made for the other side of the car-the angle to the door glass gives it away. Early 240Z Rearview Mirror - Is this correct?
I forgot to mention: Restoration time 2 Hours(over a couple of days-with about two weeks between) Restoration Cost $ 24 Not counting cost of the original mirror. The details are all in the technical article. I am getting some help from Enrique in making sure it is clear and complete, and that the results are reproduceable. A couple more back and forths and it will be ready-it should be posted sometime Monday Will

What about finding a shop with a Ramah Machine? That usually doesn't require removing as much as getting a drill into the area does, and it makes no nevermind what may be stuck in the hole as long as it conducts electricity. Will

Early 240Z Rearview Mirror - Is this correct?
One Restored red dot mirror. A Mirror restoration technical article is well in the works, just being fleshed out, and checked for repeatability. Will PS, any tips on photographing a mirror would be greatly appreciated! Out of 30 shots these were the best...sad I know, but if the mirror restoration was at the expense of the photography...

Restoring Origional Shift Knob
JimmZ, To correct a new knob, I would remove the emblem, chuck the knob with compression through the hole(put no load on plastic threads) and turn the new knob down to the same size/profile. I would leave the plated plastic alone; it is so close, even side by side (once the wood portion of the knob is correct) they could be mistaken for one another. When the turning is complete, stain and then reinstall the emblem. The wood portion of the new knob is not only too wide, but too tall. Will
