The rain cover was only on the driver's side originally. I don't know the whole story behind that, but what you have is normal. Hope it helps. Chloe
  2. I'm fairly sure that the ebay pad you have is a '77/'78 type. From memory, the '74-'76 pad says "Datsun" but is quite a bit larger than the 240Z horn pad. So, all together there are 3 different pads from 70-78, and the one from ebay is the latest of the 3.
  3. GG, The recall that they may be thinking of applies to 300ZX's, not the 280ZX. There is no injector or injector harness recall for a 280ZX that I am aware of. It would be common for the injector harness wiring connectors to be cracked/loose/broken, but it's not covered by a recall. You can pick up new wiring pigtails for the injectors fairly cheap. There seem to be a lot of those on ebay lately. First thing I can think of to cause a 280ZX to flood so easily would be a poor/dirty connection at the cylinder head temp sensor. That's a cheap and easy fix, but there could be plenty of other things that could be more expensive. Hard to tell without knowing more or seeing it. Hope it helps. Chloe
  4. I'm with Gav on the wire brush being a no-no, but from the looks of the photos, the rust on the camshaft is not on the lobes. It looks fairly light. I would try an oily rag on those areas of the cam that you noted. That should probably do the trick. Yes, try to keep anything from falling into the head. For the studs, I believe that the Nissan studs are readily available, but I could be wrong. Some of the suppliers have "upgraded" stud kits, but I don't have any experience with those. There are stud remover/installer tools. The cheap installer tools will usually hurt the threads of the stud. There a lot of choices for tools. There are also "free" ways to get those in and out (2 nuts tightened against each other and a wrench, etc.), but you might find the money spent is worth the time and frustration saved. Chloe

Texas Z and all, For ClassicZ members the mesh grille is $128 + shipping. Thanks. Chloe

Yes, I can supply the grille and ship it overseas. Thanks again Keith.
  7. Dot 4 is good. As far as I know, there was no Dot 4 back then, and it is what's commonly available now. Dot 5 is the silicone type I believe. It is a purple color. If that's the case, don't mix it with the Dot 3 or 4. If you want to go with dot 5 you should do a complete flush and replacement of all the fluid. Chloe
  8. Typically, the valve cover would not be included with the head. I'm with Ed on the manifold studs and coolant connector. That little connector is available for just a few dollars, so it's not so bad to replace it anyway. It will look a lot better too :classic: On the upper right side in the gallery you can sort by 'latest'. I think it defaults to alphabetical, so that's probably why they're mixed up. I think the sprockets interchange. You should be OK. Hope it helps. Chloe

Details, details...just kidding. Seriously, thanks for the clarification Alan. Ed, Here's your picture...

The stock '73 grille has slightly different locations for the mounting points on either end. I would guess that the Nismo 432 grille has the mounting points in the '70-'72 location, but could probably be fitted to the '73 with a little engineering
  11. Xargon, I will see what I might have here. For something closer, it might be worth it to try the Portland Z club forum here...just an idea. Chloe

If the ebay spacers don't pan out, let me know. I have some of those. Thanks, Chloe
  13. One last thing worth noting might be to make sure you succeed at getting the fill plug out first, then the drain plug. That way, if you have trouble getting the fill plug out, you're not stuck with an empty gearbox. Been there, done that :stupid:
  14. All of the carriers can be a pain to get claims from. They are real quick to point out their regulations after the fact...all of that fine print that they fail to mention beforehand. A hint for the future: If the item is in a good box with 2 inches of foam (not peanuts, they say that's not good enough) on ALL sides they will usually shut up and pay, regardless of what happened. This has been my observation, anyway.
  15. You might check the alternator belt. Sounds kind of like it's loose, and will slip enough to lose your charge at sustained high rpms on the highway.
  16. Is it just burning oil or does it run poorly? With readings that low, I would think it would just barely be running, and very badly. If it's running OK, I would re-check those readings...maybe it's not as bad as it seemed. Just a thought.
  17. Hi Jeff, What year is the Z? Chloe
  18. This page shows that number...the transalation is not great, but worth a look, I think. Nismo page Ok, sorry I've tried to make the link work twice now. Here it is in Japanese, sort of www.poweraxel.com/nismo/news/news2000/n000017.html Then plug that link in at www.altavista.com , to translate. It worked here, but I can't seem to link to the translated page.
  19. I think there was a change that occurred in 8/76, so the 10/76 should work fine.
  20. So I guess this means that the front bumper is out of the question, huh?
  21. Do you have the front bumper and if so how does it look?
  22. Maybe Victor can explain the VOSS/WASO thing... waso ? key The key in the link is advertised as a "WASO" key, but I thought it was a "VOSS" key.

I've got one...needs a little work. Not worthy of pics yet
  24. This thread caught my interest because I buy and sell on ebay also. I'd like to say first that there is hopefully no hostility brewing here. I certainly don't want to create any, anyway :classic: Watching ebay pretty closely, I also noticed the seller's shipping rates that were mentioned in the first post. I questioned them too, but then I took a look at his feedback and he does get a lot of praise for speed of delivery, and not very many neg. comments at all. My conclusion at the time was maybe he uses 2nd day air? Just a thought. As a seller, I use UPS for as often as I can. It may be seen as lazy by some, and I understand, but I see it as more practical. There are a lot of days that I have 10 or more packages going out. To me it is not practical to take 10+ packages to the post office with 10+ delivery confirmation forms, and 10+ insurance forms. 7 times out of 10 when I offer USPS service, the buyer elects to take insurance at an extra $1.30, making a small priority package $5.15 plus .50 or so for materials (not newspapers ) makes it over $5.50. UPS always includes free insurance (I don't charge extra, anyway because it is so cheap) and tracking. I have never had a UPS package that I sent get lost or damaged, or been accused of non-delivery. When potential buyers ask ahead of time about the method, I'm flexible on that...but I'm still not too fond of padded envelopes. I've seen too much crushed merchandise in my mailbox over the years. I agree completely that the speed of UPS is on average far behind priority mail, but I just feel more comfortable with it, as a buyer and a seller. Sorry for the length here. This is just my take on things. Thanks for listening.
