  1. I'm not knocking the Sydney car, its a beautiful job. But for the reasons given ^ such a conversion is not a good option from a performance point of view
  2. OHC for a more modern, powerful, lightweight engine. Not that a very good pushrod lightweight engine using modern technology couldn't be designed and built, they aren't though
  3. What is their offset though? They look like a big minus offset.
  4. As Will said ^^^, also look to see whether the rubber is separating from the metal, hard to tell from the pic. Usually they last very well though
  5. As said, it can and has been done. But it adds considerable weight just with the cradle. Plus substantial mounting points would have to be engineered into the car, more expense and weight, at the back of the car too which is worse. The stock Z rear suspension is good and matches the front well, it can be upgraded with no weight penalty to perform very well, better than any road car will ever fully exploit. As a performance mod it is not the best way nor that effective.
  6. Nissan engines>BMW engines
  7. No dirt bashing, like avatar car it will be a dual purpose road/circuit job. Targa tops add weight and reduce body strength, besides they don't suit the image
  8. So, if anyone knows of a decent one for sale you can let me know. The body must be straight and sound, prefer manual with decent interior, no targa tops. Still keeping the 260
  9. Sounds good, would suit my next project
  10. You did find this in your search? http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16550

Definately a carton, a slab is not enough for that
  12. The L6 is not a particularly light engine by modern standards, significantly heavier than the apparently under rated VG30E for example. My research indicates that the VG is also a stronger engine than the stock L6, with the added advantage of a more suitable configuration as far as weight distribution goes. Certainly the S30 body needs added rigidity for any real performance application although the stronger 260/280 body is slightly better in that regard.
  13. This any use to you Justin? http://www.datsport.com/Flywheel.html
  14. Some Skylines had a R180 3.9 long nose diff, the later slightly stronger R180. Got one in mine.
  15. That front spoiler would be great to feed air to an intercooler and it should be very effective aerodynamically. I'm making one somewhat similar, when its done the area above the bumper may be blocked off. What may make it look semi-rice is if lights are fitted in the two roundish holes But its all about taste and that varies so if you like it good for you.
  16. Dunno about global warming, ever seen some of those old newsreels where floods were just as bad as that? Kempsey and Lismore in NSW IIRC, using boats in what were streets.
  17. No, I wouldn't want to modify a really good one anyway, as with the 260 I'd want something with a decent body that is otherwise not collectable As for the L28, at the moment the choice would be a Nissan V6 turbo, probably a VQ30. Would want 400 rwhp, to do that with a L28 reliably and with fair fuel economy would not be cost effective.
  18. Here is a nice one. 280ZX.bmp
  19. Anyway, if any come up for sale then I could be interested. But at the moment US or Japan looks to be a better source.
  20. He wants 20 biggies for that rally coupe, think its been smashed too  No, I'm just interested in a project coupe, there were a few unofficially imported hence the topic.
  21. Excellent work there Robert, looks like a bought one You may want to be in a position to sell those sometime, I for one am thinking about another project, with a V6 this time.
  22. The two seater coupes, not the 2+2 station wagon :tapemouth Many around? Thinking about one for my next project, stick a turbo V6 in it, do the suspension, wide wheels.......... Wouldn't want a really nice one because it would be modded but one with a decent body and interior. My general impression is that most ZX's are used and abused until they are worth nothing, parked in the sun and rain until the interior falls apart, paint goes, rust takes over. The alternatives are to get one from the US or Japan. Any suggestions?

Great pics, terrific, thanks muchly Alan Will have to check out your site with a view to getting specific info on the ZG specs, including wheel details. That may help in allowing ZG replicas to compete in Australian historic motorsport events, particularly the popular targas where at present virtually nothing extra over stock is allowed.
  24. That ebay kit looks to be good value. Of course IMHO there is not much application for poly bushes on the Zed, whatever the use. The front tension rods, steering rack mounts and anti-sway bar and link bushes are about it. The rest? New factory stuff is better or else replace/mod with spherical bearings/rod ends
  25. Alan Stean is concentrating on his Silverstone tyres business, the Z part is winding down I'd be looking at some King springs and Koni shocks for a top ride/handling combo, Ken Graham at Accurate Suspension is familiar with the various Z options.
