Hey Kats Hope you didnt take my comments the wrong way regarding the chipping of the bracket. It was made more tongue-in-cheek as I know how immaculate your car is and obviously what a perfectonist you are. I like the sticker you have on your radiator; where did you get that from? Saw your other post re Kioto globes; thats amazing you can get them new. Regards Joseph

Hey Kats I cant believe it, I have found a flaw on your car! I can see that the bracket that is holding the brake master vac hoses has a chip in the paint! Seriously, your assessment of the different types of hose clamps used only on the fuel lines of the 240z agrees with my assessment and clears something up that I have had floating around in my head for a while now. These different style of clamps are very difficult to find at wrecking yards, but I have managed to come across a few in early 70's vintage Datsuns. Kats, do you have wrecking yards in Japan? You may want to try the boots of other Datsun models at the yards, I have found many an original style hose clamp that was in unmarked original condition, complete with flawless plating. Regards Joseph

Hey Mike Just had mine replaced with an aftermarket one (wasnt the original that I was replacing). The glass guy had some difficulties installing it and tried a few different methods and finally got it in. He looped the cord at four places, one on each side/edge of the glass and edged it in a bit at a time from each point rather than going from one place and forcing it in. He was an old timer and knew what he was doing. Said he use to use the method on numerous old cars with curved glass. Regards Joseph

Hey All In my eternal attempt for originality I am currently going over the engine bay wiring in my 09/71 240z. I have come across what I believe is a non-original relay (Bosch brand), but it seems to be wired in with original factory wiring (4 wires, shrink wrapped, factory style plugs). It is located just ahead of the windshield washer bottle (keep in mind Im in the RHD part of the world), about midway down the inner fender. It is held in place with a single, large head, self-tapping screw. The wiring seems factory and comes out of the harness. I suspect that the starter motor is wired to it. My queries are: 1. Is this a relay and is it suppose to be there. 2. What does it do (which system is it for). 3. If it is suppose to be there, anybody able to let me know what the original unit should look like (description, pictures etc). Thanks for any replies and information. Regards Joseph

  9. OK, L pieces for the window seal trim are available new from Nissan. Try Warren @ All Z Parts for the rear window seal (new, good price), rear hatch badges (new, about 1/2 what Nissan charge, and they are genuine!), front and rear strut braces (new), fuel pump (new, genuine Nissan). If you buy all of this stuff from him I am sure he will help you out with the little used odds and ends that you need. Hope this helps you out. Rgs Joseph

  14. If they are copies of these mirrors, I suggest that the person that was employed to copy them be shot! Nothing like them IMO. Joseph
  15. I have one that I would be willing to trade for an original chrome type door mirror in good condition. Let me know. Joseph

Check Banzai website for photos of both the front and rear bumper bar rubber insulators (www.zzxdatsun.com). Note that these arent available here in Australia (I have asked Nissan). I reused the rears on my car and made a substitute from an exhaust hanger strap for the fronts. The hanger strap came with the holes prepunched and I just cut it to size using a hacksaw. You could make substitute rears out of bicycle inner tube. Cut it to length and make a hole and you will have a hollow piece to slip over the rear bracket (side) similar to the existing. I also made some rubber pieces for the rear brackets (rear) to protect the paint. Dont mount your front bar without these rubber insulators. Atleast on my car the bumper edge would have damaged the paint. Hope this helps you out. Regards
  20. Just get new genuine stuff (while you still can!) I recommend trying Warren at All-Z Parts here in Sydney for the best price.
  21. Im with you Ben, I really think that the 260z 2+2 is really underated currently. A great deal of them are being sacrificed for parts and I can see one in good original condition will be worth a fair bit one day. I dont believe that they will ever be worth the money the 2 seaters will get though. Makes me lament as to WHY the heck I sold my old 75 2+2. The car was bone stock and not that rusty, would have made a great candidate for a pretty easy resto some day. Ahhh, if only! Joseph
  22. It is understood that the car is not originally from Canberra.

Hey Ben Thats great news that the part is still available, bet it will save a great deal of otherwisw defective indicator switches out there. Others, keep in mind that this kit will only rebuild the 240z style switch as far as the indicator selection switch goes. Seems like the 260z switch has a slightly different "moon" shape to the indicator select switch (see the metal "moon" shaped piece in Bens photo above). All else is usable between the 240z switch and the 260z switch. BTW Ben, Im glad to help out after all the help that you have provided me over the years that we have been in contact. You dont owe me one, more like I now owe you 99 from 100 ;> Let us know when you are fully street legal. Regards Joseph
  24. Yes, these are a legal fitment in Australia. I have seen several cars here with them fitted and they were fully registered and road worthy. May be interested. Let us know when you get some info.

Mark Best bet is to sit in the car and have someone go around the suspect seal and pour a small container of water in various places while you watch for the leak. Better still, just go to the parts store and get a cartridge of windscreen sealant and reseal the whole thing. Do the front while you are at it (ie covered in sticky sealant and turps ;>) Hope it works for you; did for me with my old 75 260z 2+2. Regards Joseph
